Root Vanilla Froyo ROM Released

Enjoy the rom, but lost my Wifi.

Upon further review, my wifi is history too. It shows as good on the task bar, but it's toes up on the settings. That kinda sucks because I like this rom.

Update- Vamp is putting out a new kernel tonight that will fix it. He also put out how to fix it in console for those who don't want to wait. I'll be on the waiting list, but it's cool to see how it can be fixed otherwise. Those guys are really smart.

At least I don't have to worry about no kernel haha, It seems Vamps 2.0.8 kernel and OC kernel both have their little fixes to be had, sadly.

The new kernel 2.0.8.1 works like a charm. Wifi restored. Autorotate restored. Happiness restored. I think it might just speed things up a little bit too.

the only problem ive had with this ROM so far is every once and a while when i hit the back button it will rapidly vibrate and to stop the vibrating is just hit the back button again.

Oh and btw my wifi DOES work

You must be using rfs. The new kernel restores wifi with ext4.

Thanks for all the hard work to those developers! This looks promising. I'm going to be rooting for the first time when I root, so I hope someone will post a thread that says "Excellent time to root - see inside this post" or something, when a really good final product is developed.

I know one thing, I won't buy ANYTHING samsung again, after this mess, and reading on CNET and msnbc that Samsung apparently put -----

KEYLOGGER programs and had it do screen-capture intervals at specific times on NEW laptops. That is creepy as all get out!!!!!

A security researcher says he discovered keylogging software installed on two brand-new Samsung laptops that could be used to monitor all activities on the computer remotely.
Mohamed Hassan, founder of NetSec Consulting, discovered StarLogger software on Samsung laptops with model numbers R525 and 540 after running security scanning software on the systems when he bought them last month, he writes in a guest column in Network World posted today.
Windows-based StarLogger starts up when the computer is turned on, records all keystrokes made on the computer, can be difficult to detect, and can be set to periodically send surreptitious e-mails with information gleaned from the computer to a predetermined e-mail address, with screen capture images attached.

Can anyone give me a crash course on how to use Console? Tried putting in what Vampirefo listed in that thread, but I don't seem to be doing it properly.
Thanks for the help!

Do I put it all in as one sequence or what?
Sorry for the noob questions, but the only thing I have ever used console for is to flash rfs or ext4.

Van, that's incredibly ambitious. It's much easier to just flash the 2.0.8.1 kernel with SWUpdater. There's more to the kernel than just the wifi fix, so it's worth doing. I've never had the um...hardware... to play around in console.

Thanks for that link! Applied the kernel. I apply it thru recovery, I don't use SWUpdater for that. Waiting for the phone to start back up now, will let you know how it went.

Also, as a side note, the power options in the notification area is great. Is this from an app you can download or is it custom programming?

It's from the Intercept.

I don't know how you apply it through recovery. Please share. If you could post step by step like you are talking to a child I can probably follow.

Put the kernel in /sdcard/sdx/zip

Using one of the kernels you downloaded, go to 'Apply zip from SD Card' and select your kernel. Apply, and boot to system through 'Reboot options'.

That's what I tried, but since it was a .tar file, it didn't show up as an option. I am guessing that when you apply from zip it has to have a file extension that ends in .zip to show up on the menu. I could be wrong though.
