Root Vanilla Froyo ROM Released

i just followed the steps for vanilla. not sure what the issue is. when i reboot to system it just sits on a screen with the transform word in silver and three little droid guys, also silver. i can still boot to custom recovery but cannot use the phone. what have i done wrong?

How long did you let it sit? I don't remember what the boot animation is for the Vanilla Rom, I'm on Ubuntdroid. It does take a fair amount of time for the first restart after flashing a new rom though. More than 5 minutes if I recall correctly. Also, are you using rfs or ext4? That makes a huge difference in reboot times. Did you remember to clear the dalvik cache before you installed the rom?

i cleared the cache. there was another step listed on the sdx website. i had to go to console and do a few things. trying to reflash vanilla now.

i will let it sit longer this time. i believe i am rfs. i havent done anything to make it ext4, so it is whatever is stock?

In console you would be choosing your recovery, either rfs or ext4. You are probably rfs and that is the slowest of the file systems. If that doesn't work, your next step is re-downloading the vanilla rom and reinstalling it. Bad downloads do happen. The vanilla rom is my second favorite and a very good one, but Ubuntdroid seems far superior to me. Just food for thought.

all right, back on track. it was that console step apparently.

here is the steps i followed:

1. clear dalvik cache
2. go to console, press ok, type rfs, press ok WAIT! (it will say format success four times)
3. then apply zip as standard

when it booted i got a red matrix style letter fall down for awhile, then it was up and running.

Mmmhmm. I didn't like a lot of the Vanilla ROM, just because it wasn't very clean cut looking. It looked like everything was kinda just thrown in there. It didn't appeal to the eyes.

it really looks the same to me. there are some really nice things already installed (superuser and a power control) and on the drag down menu there are some nice shortcuts. but the most important thing is the phone is behaving so far. that is all i care about.

titanium is still buggering me though.

Have a Vanilla Rom and liked it at first but have noticed that I can't back up apps to SD and phone slowing down dramatically. I want to try Ubuntu now but how do I go from one Rom to a new one? Also to try to fix the slowing down, I tried to restore from back up and my .tar file deleted. WTF did that happen? It restored but don't want to lose anything important.

To flash Ubuntdroid, you just flash it the same way as you flashed vanilla. Don't worry about making a backup, it shouldn't delete your data folder

So it will just right over Vanilla? No need to uninstall? Also i never emptied Cache. Should i do that before or after new install?

Going to Flash Vanilla ROM this week and have a couple if questions. I've been reading that its better to redownload apps instead of restoring thru TBPro. Can I do that and just restore data only?
Also I figure I'll flash the JIT mod too. Is this wise?
I'm unsure in what order to do but this is what I'm thinking, Format in EXT4, Flash Vanilla ROM, Flash Kernel I want to useand which is preferred by people now Vamps or crudkernael, Flash JIT.
The only thing I'm unsure of is I reads about clearing davlik chache but I have never read any instructions telling you were in the install steps to clear cache. Can anyone tell me where in my steps I should clear the cache or if i need to change the order of my steps?

Sorry for being a newbie, I've read the instructions but just want to be sure.

Again forgive my ignorance but where in the steps do I apply davlik cache? After I flash everything and before I reboot to system? Or at some other time? I ask because again I have never seen it said exactly where in the steps everyone provides at what point to clear cache. But then again I'm probably just blind or dumb or both.

Clear it before you flash the thing you wanna flash
