Root Velocity ROM gives the best benchmark results!!!

Wow, look at the benchmarks for the Nexus one. Over 100 mflops. Very impressive for a phone.

Nice job on your bench scores. Any chance anyone has benched the phone stock? I'm assuming those under your scores are stock or stockish.

I think that they might be rooted ones with everything removed because when I did a test with a lot of apps on my phone it stayed at 3.8
 
Yea either way, those numbers are beyond impressive for a cellphone. Even if it was only doing 20mflops, that is still 5 times that of the ally. :(

I sometimes wonder if I should have just waited until the incredible was in stock. Though I like my ally's keyboard too much.
 
Yeah I went keyboard > power, I knew it was gonna be bad but we still have hope with froyo and maybe soon a custom kernel to kick the ally up to 1Ghz?
 
Damn it. I hate looking at how much less phones suck compared to mine. :(

Still, it was cheap, had a keyboard and is a decent first smartphone. But I swear to God, in two years, I'm going dual-core or whatever kind of awesome crap they'll have by then.

I'm just bummed at the moment I can't get overclocking to stick. I would assume it would be a config file somewere in the os right? Any ideas?

Pretty sure you'd have to recompile the kernel itself to allow overclocking beyond 600MHz.

Or are you saying you've been able to go over that?

What I was thinking is that there are many apps that are able to increase CPU clock speed, I was assuming they were modifying some underlying components within the os to overclock the cpu frequency. Much like GPU overclocking tools on a computer.

Perhaps however I'm incorrect in my thinking, if someone better versed in overclocking on these android devices could chime in and shed some light on whats going on in the backend, it would be well appreciated.

You are thinking Windows, in Linux its different, max CPU speed is programmed in the kernel so if you dont have a kernel that can go above 600mhz (and there aren't any out yet) it is impossible to overclock. Just the way Linux works, its all pros vs cons, gotta live with it.
 
Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up. So for some of the phones that have kernels that allow overclocking, I assume they could be ported? Perhaps something Trident can work on for his next Velocity release.
 
Ummm kernels is kinda different, you don't port them because they are very unique, we have the lg ally kernel source code I really don't know why we don't have a custom kernel yet. People are saying they can't compile it I guess ill look at it and see if I get anywhere.
 
Yeah kernel controls your hardware so its prob easier to make a new one than port an existing one it'll save time, maybe I'm wrong here but from my view its impossible to port a kernel without bugs. That's why you need a different kernel for things like swap, app2sd(the good one), overclock, wifi tether(there are apps that do it without new kernel though)
 
Check out the progress on the Ally now people. Lots of goodies coming to the Ally when its all ready =)
 
Velocity .2 and an overclocked kernel? Needless to say I'm pretty excited. Or are you hinting at a froyo rom?
 
I know Froyo tripled my scores on my regular Droid so im hoping it does the same for the Ally...I like the keyboard with numbers too much to use the Droid for just a bit more screen...
 
That would be a dev that is working on new revisions for his kernel :)

Oh awesome. Stupid question but I don't know much about prossessors but would it be it would be possible to push the ally to 1GHZ with the right kernal and froyo?
 
Unsure, what it really boils down to is the build quality of the processor. Though as dres stated, theses processor were only required to run at 600mHz, anything over that is going beyond the designed limits of the chip.

Honestly, I don't feel this chip will make a stable 1gHz. Perhaps it can make that clock speed, but heat and stability may be un-reasonable.

Guess we'll just have to wait until someone tries it.

I haven't really put in any thought of front my phone this way. most of us are already almost 200 mhz of what it should be
