Root Verizon 3G PRL? Help

OK I've been doing a lot of Googling and not coming up with anything definitive. It's getting late and I figured I'd just post a thread, sorry if I missed the answer somewhere.

I want to roam to Verizon 3G. I am currently running MeanBean3.09 with all the new radios and I'm s-off. I turn on Roam Only in the settings since this mod is baked into MeanBean.

When I'm at home in Philly it will roam to Verizon but the connection reads 1X (not willing to get into the semantics about whether that's "3G", I just want the layman's 3G as in real 3G). The Sprint 3G in Philly is terrible.

Now I'm in San Diego visiting family and forced roaming is getting me "3G" with decent signal and Not Roam Control says I'm on Cricket Wireless. Here at my parent's I'm getting about 1mbps down on Cricket's 3G vs 300kbps on Sprint. I'd like to force my phone to Verizon to see if it's even better than Cricket. Sprint will barely get 100kbps here and drops calls (if I can even make them) about every minute. So at least on the Cricket tower I'm getting decent voice.

These methods came up a few times http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267893 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673490 but usually in threads older than the EVOLTE itself so I wasn't sure if there was a better way by now, also if there is an EVOLTE specific way (as in methods tailored to Sense). And I've read different things about this method needing AOSP... or there being Sense methods from the OG Evo days but the ##775# or whatever didn't work on my EVOLTE... I'm pretty confused and hesitant about what to try about this point so so I thought I'd ask before doing anything.

If the only way to get it working reliably is on AOSP I'm willing to flash an AOSP to try it out.

Thanks

i have not seen a hack to use verizon's prl for the evo 4g lte. if there is one it would be over at xda. however, know this, if there is a hack you will most likely get the boot from sprint. they have booted people already for it. and it is a subject that is in a grey area for this site. so tread carefully about it.

so head on over to xda and try a search for it. if nothing comes up then there is no hack yet. i know there was one for the og evo.....not sure if that will work for this phone though.

Well seeing as I got 4G LTE in Atlanta and got about 1 mbps down, and wherever I get 4G LTE in San Diego I'm getting about 1.5 mbps down (getting bad 3G at my parent's actual house)... Not to mention the 3G where I have that (including Philly, where I live, since it still doesn't have LTE) I am getting about 250 kbps down... Maybe accidentally getting the boot from Sprint wouldn't be the most upsetting thing to happen to me...

If Sprint does boot you, do you have to pay off the rest of the contract as if you had terminated it early? Or do they just say "Hey, gtfo and don't come back"? I'm thinking about trying this too. My brother has the HTC One X (pretty much the Evo LTE) and he gets download speeds of 1.2 Mbps on AT&T mobile data. And in that same spot I get 200 Kbps on Sprint mobile data. And we've tried this with multiple ROMs, even ROMs from the same dev for our respective phones. So I know the issue is Sprint and not my phone. I don't get mobile data faster than 300 Kbps ever. So if there was a way to use Verizon's PRL that would be awesome to me!

I'm not trying to say I want to be fraudulent to get my contract cancelled early. I'm just saying if they cancel, oh well. And if they don't, I'll ride out my contract the honorable way. Well as honorable as using Verizon's PRL is.

From what I understand they cancel your contract and you are free of the early termination fees and any remaining obligation. I assume it's because our plans are "unlimited roaming" (at least mine is) but somewhere they have a policy limiting it to 300MB/month or you risk your contract...? Not really sure how that's unlimited but I guess that's why they let you go easily rather than fight for more money from you. YMMV

ok this is another grey area we are getting into. so as not to get into trouble talking about this, the answer can be found in this thread from the og evo:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/337563-here-goes-nothing-trying-get-vzw.html

edit: i did not realize that it went 6 pages long....LOL read page 5 to find exactly what happened to mr ed......man that brings back memories. a lot of cool peeps came and went in that thread....LOL

I was running a vzw prl on my og evo. It was actually recommended to me by a guide from this community. (Not ocn).

I used it for dang near a year. Never heard a peep. I'm sure I was exceeding 300mb per month too.

yeah i think it took evomatt, the op for that thread, little over a year before the boot happened.

i did a little search and did not find any prl hopping for the evo lte yet.

Yeah, it took evomatt and Mr.Ed about a year each to get the boot. I've seen a few more over the years, but those two were the first in our little circle that I can remember.

Mr.Ed is back with Sprint, but last I heard he's got an SGS3. Really good dood right there. ;)

As far as the PRL, Ocn is right. I haven't heard of any PRL hacks for us yet.

i think they have become that desperate to retain subscribers. i've read that they are losing about a million customers quarterly. that seems a bit high to me, but given my current service 'woes', i can almost believe it.
