Verizon can not authorize this device?

Hey guys. I'm having some issue's with my g/f's DInc. Yeah, I know, this is the Droid forum. But I've posted this over there and I didn't get one single reply, and to be honest, the DInc owners have never been the most knowledgeable sort. So I'm hoping that maybe someone here will recognize what the issue is, and perhaps it's not so much a phone-specific issue and doesn't get moved to where it was in the first place.

Anyway, I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote over there. Here ya go.

"It's a never ending string of probs with the DIncs on my line. My g/f (who has officially proclaimed hate for her phone and root) dropped her phone into my lap last night and simply said "Fix it."

Apparently it kept rebooting and then wouldn't turn back on. I did a battery pull, left it out for a couple mins, reinserted it, and then needed to activate it (I also had to do this to my mother's DInc a couple months ago, which is not rooted). Ok, phone is back online, but now it's not getting a 3G signal at all. I switch airplane mode on and off, nothing. I turn WiFi on and off. Still nothing. Nothing I do get's it to come back on. And now today, she tries to make a call, and she gets a message from Verizon saying that service is temporarily disabled. However, she can text.

Now, I've noticed issues dropping 3G with my Droid, and my mother has had trouble getting on the internet. I know Verizon has had trouble with their 4G network, but I haven't heard any mention of 3G. Also, the last update they rolled out saw 4G go to every market surrounding us but ours. And I have it on good authority that 4G is coming to my area by this summer. Perhaps the issue is related to Verizon prepping our towers for 4G, and the 4G issue is reflecting upon us? Perhaps that's too much wishful thinking.

So, anyone got any input?"

If this prob persists, I'm going to have to take it to Verizon, and I'll probably have to flash back to stock, which I was trying to avoid. Anybody here have an answer, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think there should be a setting that you can check that turns on the 3g data connection. I had to do this with a friend's Droid 2 when she got it off of ebay. It worked fine except for the 3g and once I checked the box it worked fine. Not sure where it would be on a Dinc but it is generally in the data or network menus.

As for the tower problem you might try and call Verizon before taking it to a store that way you can see if it is them or you and prevent having to flash back to stock.

Also I know this is probably obvious (and no insult intended), but did you try *228 then #1 to try and re-activate it and then *228 again and option 2 to upload the new towers?

That is all I can think of right now to suggest.

Ah yes, I should clarify that. Yes, I did the *228 "fix". I've tried each option, including option 99, which helped fix my mother's DInc when it encountered these issues. I did call Verizon and they couldn't help either. They wanted me to do an edit option where you hit # and some number, but instead of going to edit mode, I got the same message I get whenever trying to dial out.

I've yet to come across anyone who's seen this prob or knows of a possible fix, including Verizon. This is very much a pain in the tush. Between my Droid running on it's last legs and her DInc probs, we're desperately waiting for Verizon to put out a phone worthy of a two year contract.

I certainly hear you with 3G, and plain all service issues on the Droid. I've been having this lately and just blame it on the GB ROMs (specifically UD3.x). Now it's possible there's issues with Verizon's network, but if it was this serious, I'm sure we'd all be hearing about it constantly. Not sure what ROM your gf is running, but have you tried restoring to a previous on and seeing if that has helped? My best guess is you have to bring it back into the store.
On your last sentence, I fully agree. I'm really hoping that Verizon gets some sort of variant of the SGS2. The Charge looks flimsy and it's pretty much guaranteed that the Bionic will be locked down.

I'm thinking that both myself and my g/f will wind up with the SGS2. From what I understand Verizon will be getting it, but there seems to be some question whether it will be LTE or not. Basically, it'll probably come down to whatever comes out first, the SGS2 or the Bionic. I'll jump on whatever does, and when the other comes out, I'll weigh it against the other and see what I like better. If I prefer the latter one, I'll just hand down the former one. Ah, family plans. lol

UPDATE: So I called Verizon and finally got someone who recognized the issue. It's a relatively common issue, not particular to any phone, rooted or not. It's an (obviously) authentication issue, where the A Key, a 26 number used to authorize the device, has a value changed. He didn't really elaborate to how it happens, but it was a relatively simple fix that he had to do on his end. So now, the phone will call out again.

However, I still have no 3G on the phone. That, well, he had no idea. These were two separate issues having nothing to do with the other. After expressing that I have had 3G issues on my Droid as well as my mother's DInc, he issued um, I want to call it a trouble tag, something like that. I don't know if anyone else in the area is having problem, but a crew will be sent to the area to see if there is an issue with the local tower. He said that it could have been as simple as a bird flying into the antenna (which has apparently happened in the past).

Anyway, thought I'd let everyone know. Thanks everyone for your help.
