Root [Verizon] Can you root and not change the ROM?

Look in the 2nd post of the thread on xda. There is a working VVM app attached.

As to roaming, I can't answer, I don't use a network extender.
You might be better off asking questions about the ROM in the ROM's thread on xda.
 
How does the tethering work? I found the option in the menu settings. Doesn't give you a setting for SSID or password. Is it just open and unprotected?

There is a configure button in the top right in hotspot.
Don't just tap the button, tap the words.

Stupid question 714. Regarding the VVW app. I tried to click the link from my phone. It unpackaged the zip file and proceeded to open my "night sounds" app. Something is amis.

What is the proper way to get that apk on my phone?

It might be a flashable file in recovery, like the ROM. I didn't use it so I'm not sure.
 
I ended up leaving it rooted and reverted back to nandroid backup. Too many issues with cleanrom. Boooooo! Sucks cause I liked it.

Between the voicemail and then the crazy roaming thing in my office, too much to deal with it.

At least I'm rooted fwiw :) I guess I'll start hunting for ROM's that won't fuss with my verizon network extender.
 
BTW, I ended up putting google voice on there. Got it as a recomendation while reading another thread. They had same issue. Looks to be even better than VVM as it will transcribe and send to email. Pretty cool.

Bummer that I can't free tether or use any app I want in multi window.
 
What's different about those than cleanrom?

Less tweaking to it so not as buggy? Basically it would be nice if it ran just like stock except with free tether and MW.

BTW, that nandroid backup is sick... Whole thing came back. Apps, folders, everything.
 
I don't have any bugs with CleanROM.
The difference is it is the stock Verizon ROM with root.

Yes, nandroid is nice, it basically takes a snapshot of your device.
Titanium only does the apps.

You did well with cleanrom because you don't have a network extender or use VVM. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I spend a lot of time in my office on that extender (poor reception) and roaming all day wasn't going to work for me.

I don't know what you flashed when you unlocked your bootloader.
I know originally when he made it, you had to flash a very basic rooted image. I'm not even sure it was the image that came with the phone.
 
I went with whatever Adam had in the boatloader Odin thing.

Pretty straightforward with no real options. Plug and play.

The two links you have above? What is the deal with those? How are they any different from jelly beans or cleanrom?

I feel like I've learned so much in the past 24 hours. Definitely smarter than I was yesterday :)
 
Already told you.
The original one Adam had was very basic, don't know what he's using now.

The 2nd one isn't a ROM, it's a mod to allow you to use any app in multi view.

Stupid question, but after I download it to my desktop how do I flash it on to the device? Same as flashing a ROM?
