Verizon CFO: Thunderbolt launching 'very shortly'

I think we need a subforum with nothing but speculation dates....and then the mods can nuke the subforum once the phone is released on the.....

Makes me nervous that "shortly" could mean nearly a month. Technically, that would still be quarter one.

What I found funny about the article is how he claims that they may have to re-examine their iPhone "unlimited" data plan. Sounds like he's trying to push more iPhone sales, "Mmmm, we may have to change the iPhone's data plan, so be sure to get locked into your 2 year contract with the current iPhone that will be obsolete in a few months so you can be grandfathered in".

I think it's a great find, karmamule. I'm encouraged to see the CFO use the words, "very shortly."

Thanks, magisternautaque. The more I think about the typical executive's ego, the more I'm hoping he wouldn't put himself on the line if he weren't quite confident something would be happening soon.

Up until now it has been Verizon as a faceless corporate entity that has looked silly, but now a specific individual has out himself out there. Yes, 'very shortly' is ambiguous, but this along with BMX's tweet tells me whatever the holdup was has been resolved and it is just logistics now.

I choose to be naively optimistic for the next week.

Yeah, it'd be great if we could get the new data plans he spoke of along with the TBolt. Yaahooo!

I think it means 3/10

Sounds about right to me. If it were this week I think he would have explicitly said it, and if it were more than a couple weeks out he wouldn't have said "very shortly". In the meantime I'll happily keep myself distracted playing Rift and hope that next week has a pleasant surprise in store for me.

Yup, I am officially happy that I will be blowing off the TB and keeping my DX.

I may have to follow your logic on this.

Unless with a new 2 year contract I am grandfathered in, I will most likely stay 3G. Which means in order to get a FFC I will have to go iPhone. Hurt my fingers just typing it.

How is it barely news when a CFO speaks? As far as I can tell, this is the first time since them saying Q1 that they have said anything about the release of the TB.

Thanks karmamule, for posting this.

Just started considering a new phone. My initial thought was re-up with this phone to be grandfathered in. With 4g being the introduction of tiered I wonder if you can just get a 3g unlimited plan with it? Maybe the X is the way to go and be grandfathered into unlimited for 2 years?

Nothing will be announced today. It is iPad2 media glut day. "Very shortly" from a CEO means "We are not sure when it will release, but, it had BETTER release soon". He knows every week delay now will impacts sales, since more competition on the horizon becomes clearer, each week.

rush, you never know. Just because the iPad2 is supposed to be announced today doesn't mean they won't announce the phone...I mean they probably won't, but they could.

I know it's ipad 2 day. But why wouldn't vzw announce the phone? The big push for them is the xoom. If those riddles are pointing to th TB an xoom syncing together it would make sens to try and one up them. Especially after apple decided to throw the thunderbolt tag on one of their items.
