Root [Verizon] confused

For flashify, you need to choose your custom recovery. I use philz touch, but I have the sprint version of the s3. But whichever one you use, you need just the recovery.img file. Then in flashify just select install recovery and navigate to where you have it stored.

Update: here I got the s3 unified image file for philz recovery philz touch
 
that file you gave.. i went on my phone and downloaded it. so do i go back into flashify and pull that file up that i just downloaded under recovery?
 
First choose backup current recovery. Then choose install recovery, and select choose a file (no need to let it try to download one) and with the flashify file browser navigate to where you have it stored and install.
 
ok I backed up my recovery.. now when I try to choose the place I have it ( which it's in my download folder) I go into flash recovery and choose file.. but I do not see my download folder
 
ok nevermind I got it flashed and it went to reboot i got a error stating system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone please turn off your phoen and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help.
 
Verizon version has a locked boot loader maybe? It won't let you boot normally into system? If it does restore backup of recovery in flashify
 
ok i think i really messed up.. i hit the volume down, power and home button and i went to restart the phone and i hit the volume up and it's installing something now.
 
I guess Verizon locks the boot loader. Its trying to boot into recovery and can't. I think if you pull battery and put it back it may boot into system. If not maybe a long long hold down of power button. When you get back to system, restore stock recovery. There is a different process all together to get a custom recovery on Verizon. I didn't see that, sorry bro. But once you boot system restore stock recovery.
 
Your system should be fine, its just trying to boot to recovery. Did you leave the battery out for a couple minutes? Then if it gives you that message again, while its on the screen hold the power button until it reboots. Your system is fine, flashify ran a script to boot recovery, you just gotta get it boot into system.
 
There's a thread about recovery on the Verizon version. I guess you gotta use safestrap if you want a custom recovery, or flash Roms or anything.
 
If the factory reset worked then your stock recovery is fine. As for contacts, you should just have to sync with your google account and they should all come back.
 
Thanks.. I guess i won't worry about getting the newest update. but however i learned a lesson from this.. never buy a phone off ebay again..lol.. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me.

Madbat is rite. On this sync ur phone with google by adding google from with inside account settings it will take a small amount of time n all ur contacts will return
