[Verizon] Disable 4.0.4 update

I'm sorry if the answer is posted already I just don't have time to search. I leave out of the country tomorrow and do not have time to sit down and figure out the solution. If anybody could post on how to simply disable Verizon's update it would be greatly appreciated. I am rooted and it is hanging about 1/4 of the way through install with the little red triangle on top of the android guy.. I am tired of the update asking me ever 2 min. to install it. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

If you're rooted and have modified any system files from stock that is why it is hanging.

You could just flash the rooted version of the update and flash the radios to go with it and be done with it.

Or you could just flash the new stock image that google posted today.

You have several options.

I am sorry for my compelete ignorance here. Where would I find these? I have only followed step by step instructions on rooting and I am not very familiar with it. I rooted using the wug's method and flashed the franco's kernal cause I thought it would give me usb hosting for my portable hdd.

If you are in a pinch and want to stop the update, this can typically be done by editing the build.prop (location /system/build.prop)

So hopefully you have root explorer or es file explorer or another root priviledged file explorer. I'm going to list the directions for using Root Explorer since that's whay I know. First make sure you're in read/write mode. Then, long press on the build.prop and choose "Open With", then choose "Text Editor". Now look for the line that reads:

ro.fingerprint=google/mysid/toro:4.0.x/IMMxxx/<6 digit number> : user/release-keys

Write down your current letters/numbers in the bold area above and keep it in a safe place in case you want to reverse this later. Then edit the bold text above to the following:

IMM76K/336647

Leave the rest of the string exactly like it was before. Then press the menu button in Root Explorer (the three dots) and choose the option to save and exit. That should trick the system into thinking you're up to date already and the nag should stop.

Forgot to add that a reboot may be required afterward. Also, I've had the update nag show up one final time after performing the above procedure but once dismissed, it should go away for good.

Thanks Iowa! It worked. I appreciate the solution. I will mess with getting 4.0.4 installed when I return home in 2 weeks. You are a life saver.
