verizon free hotspot extended

Just got off the phone with VZW and was told the free hot spot promotion ends next month! Sweet!

I'm kind of bummed actually.
I was waiting until this weekend to see if they were going to change the pricing for hotspot or if I should just get a mifi.
mifi pricing is $50 for 5GB and $10 per GB after that. Hotspot pricing is $20 for the first 2GB and $20 for each additional GB after that. So, $80 for 5GB on the hotspot. ( I use about 5GB on my aircard every month)
I know, root and use one of the free tethering options, but I'll be depending on it for my work laptop. So if they crack down on that I'll have to pay the full price.

They already have. I flashed a new ROM a couple weeks ago and noticed google didn't auto restore my Wireless Tether for Root Users. I went to the market to d/l and it wasn't even there. It was there on the web based market, but it said it "wasn't available" for my device.

I have read that if you connect your phone to WiFi and then goto market you can download it off the market.

I was on WiFi at the time, so it may be true for others, but I had no luck
