Verizon Going With Tiered Data.

I personally work for verizon, we just changed our price plans at the beginnning of this year, we have no plans to make any more price plan changes for quite a long time (long over a year). Reguardless, you don't have to change from unlimited even if we do change in the future, you will be grandfathered in like we did with the 3G phones and the 9.99 data plan, if you had one of those phones before the end of last year you are not required to have the data plan.

I stream music just about all day during the week. I also surf, bank, watch you tube, play poker, download and do just about everything else my phone is capable of. I rarely use WiFi for any of that. This reply is from my phone. The connectivity that my phone allows is something I use to its fullest potential. I just started using wireless tether with my laptop when my sprint aircard has a poor signal too, so I know my usage will only increase.

Good point. I operate on an LG Envy 3 that I got before the forced data plan. And I have been allowed to have that phone without a data plan with no hassle so I doubt Verizon is going to hassle it's customers about it unless they switch to a 4G phone then they might make them upgrade, but what do I know? I'm jut guessing.

From what I understand Droid Life is not a reliable source. And so what if its reporting on it? That doesn't mean we should close the thread on it just cause it been reported once or twice. If you read the full statement made by the CEO you would see they are looking into tiered pricing but right now acknowledge the money being made by the droid line up and even report being up in earnings because of it. They also say they aren't making a move anytime soon since they are up on the droids but with the LTE they are looking into it as a possible future but not a definite. Now I believe tiered is going to happen, I just don't believe it'll happen as quickly as Droid Life is reporting.
 
Ok, on Droid Life the source said ZDnet.com, NOT droid Life, and it wasn't Droid Life insinuating now tiered data imediatly it was the writer of the article at ZDnet.com, his title read: "Verizon Wireless: No big rush to tiered data plans (for now)"

Droid Life really doesn't "report" that much anyway, they are simply a blog that compiles reports created by actual media outlets.

Oh okay thanks for clarifying why they are ragged on a lot and ya I did read the article but I was reading a million otherthings for college so I got some info confused lol.
 
Is a tiered data plan a bad concept as long as an unlimited tier option is available, any caps are reasonable and the average user pays the same price, or less, then they currently do?

There are probably two likely perspectives on a tiered data plan. One is that since the current pricing is for an 'unlimited' data plan, an unlimited tier should available for no more than it is now while any limited tiers introduced should cost less. This is good for the consumer but would mean less income for the same, or greater, data use for Verizon.

The other concept is that since the current data plan is the only plan available, the use and associated cost represent an average user. Thus a new tiered plan might have a middle tier based on the current average use and cost while adding a more expensive unlimited tier and a less costly minimal usage tier. This probably means the same income for Verizon but people wanting unlimited data would pay more.

I personally think the second approach is fair, but also understand that not everyone will agree. However, any tiered data plans would seem to cost Verizon more to set up and manage and it sounds like this is probably something that won't be implemented until LTE service becomes available, which also simplifies things as those plans will be starting from scratch for new services.
 
As long as they grandfather existing users, I hope this applies to any 4G service as well. Although I do expect Verizon to charge $20+ just to use 4G as it looks like Sprint & AT&T are doing that. Just to be connected to some sort of internet connection is expensive with the phone bill and your home provider.

It would be nice if that were so but, we all know that ain't gonna happen, lol. After all we're talking about Verizon Wireless.

While we know 4G will be tiered, what prices it will be remains to be scene. I'm sure no matter what the limits are we won't like what they are, that's just the nature of the beast :(.

To comment on the fascinate I'm sure they're waiting on the X and the D2 to estabish themselves once they're released.t
 
Question for all the veteren verizon wireless customers. I had verizon cell phone service prior to 2000, but I was just reading wikipedia and it says verizon wireless was founded in 2000. Is that a mistake in wikipedia? Verizon wireless is more than 10 yrs old. I'm confused!
Prior to 2000, someone by the name of verizon was deffinately charging me for cell phone service :rolleyes:

Anyone eles in here on verizon prior to 2000?
 
its pretty simple for me;
if at any point they tell me that i can't go over so many gigs for the price i pay now, or essentially it becomes not unlimited for what i pay now....then i sell the phone and go to either another company or home internet.
if you dont like what they offer, dont give them your money.

since this is what i WILL do, it is easy for me not to worry about what they MAY do.
if they change things for me, i will change things for them.

Kind of had it. Back in the 90's, Verizon Wireless here in NJ was called "Bell Atlantic".

There was no Verizon anywhere near where I lived back then. It was still Bell Atlantic, the named changed to Verizon Wireless in late 2000 I believe. I am pretty sure this was the case everywhere in the Northeast.

Went to ATT in 06 and came back to verizon last month.
