Root [Verizon] Hyperdrive 16.1 upgrade stuck at boot

I very carefully followed the directions in the video from Bobios Tech World and have been staring at the boot animation for way, way too long. (15 mins now).

I was on RLS 15. Used Safestrap (which is how I installed 15). Did a full wipe, flashed SuperSu.

I suppose I can reboot to Safestrap and find a way to recover to the backup (not sure how, but I assume it is possible) but would rather get this working.

Any suggestions?

(Or if you know the steps to recover the backup -- which is on the internal card -- that would be appreciated as well.

Files installed via SS:

Hyperdrive+RLS16.1+KK+S4+Final.zip
UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip

Have not yet installed modem fix or Wifi fix

Well that's unfortunate

I did a restore to the backup of the pre-install and rebooted. Rebooted to the same 4.4.2 animation! So I did battery pull to get out of that.

Did the restore again just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating the restore routine is complete but FAILED.

I guess I could try the whole install again but am doubtful that would make a difference. Should I just Odin back to stock and start over? (Or make dinner for the kids and try again tomorrow :-)

Was running safestrap 3.72? 16.1 requires it only can flash stock slot for now in the grocery store can help you out more in about 1 hr when I get home if willing to wait

Update:

I noticed that I was actually running SS 3.71 as I installed the APK but never actually “installed” the recovery.” So I fixed that. (Lesson: Don’t mess with phone when 6 year old is wondering when dinner is.)

I recovered back to a god-knows-how-old Stock recovery. (Rooted but that’s about all).

All good except no Wi-Fi.

Why? I have no idea but I’ll assume that’s fixable, probably by the Gogolies Wi-Fi fix once the Hyperdrive is actually running.

Flashed Hyperdrive 16.1. Seemingly fine.
Flashed SuperSu – seemingly fine.

Rebooted system.
Waited ten minutes.

Same deal. Boot animation forever.

So all I know at this point is that moving to SS 3.72 didn’t do the trick.

Perhaps Gogolie’s 9 step, syntactically interesting method is the solution.

Download phone info Samsung from the Google Play store let me know what bootloader you are on and I can get point you in the right direction to correct modules

Do I infer correcrly that I should flash the modules after SuperSu and before reboot? (with RLS15 you would flash the mods but didn't need the SuperSu.

And thanks for all this help. It's much appreciated.

I have had some success without having to reflash rom if it has booted without wifi working I would flash module wipe davlik cache and cache the reboot

Well the Gogolies method mostly worked. (see below for details) I'm running 16.1 but can't get WiFi working despite having flashed gogolies-wififix-VZW-retail-NC5-w-modules-SS.zip NC5-patch1.zip

It's not a phone, it's a hobby!

Gogolies Method for S4 with SafeStrap as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720163
1. Install Custom Rom in SS. (Hyper 16.1)
2. Flash SuperSu
3. Flash Modules for firmware (Flltevzw-NC5-modules.zip)
4. Flash NC5 boot.img and WiFi Fix in same que
QuickpUpgrade-NC5-Ss-No-bootloaders=MDK-MK2-toNC5-gogolie.zip
gogolies-wififix-VZW-retail-NC5-w-modules-SS.zip NC5-patch1.zip
5. Flash Super Su again
6. Reboot to Download mode
7. Odin Flash
MC5 Boot.img in the AP Slot
Ap_mk2_to-nc2-upgrde-boot.tar
NC5 HLOS/Modem in CP Slot
Modem-nhlos-nc5-odin.tar

And here I was thinking that NC5 superceded NC2

I didn't intend to become your hobby. But that thanks for your persistence.
