The Verizon iPhone has been rumored year after year… but it seems tomorrow the rumors will transform into truth as several news sources are claiming attendance to a Verizon event in NYC tomorrow. That event is supposedly to announce the Verizon iPhone, which will be launched on February 3rd. I’m excited. I’m not excited because [...]

Other than cutting into Android sales (on Verizon) for a few months, I really don't see it having that big of an impact.
I do see iOS 5 getting a pretty extensive overhaul (notifications, etc..)

This reminds me of the flack the local Mercedes dealership was taking last year when they announced in full page ads that they were now going to sell Volkswagens along with the usual Mercedes line.

"Blasphemy!" lol

LOL I'm sure that affected their egos!!! hahahaha :D

i personally dont think its an iPhone announcement still. But if it is then all will do is help android in the long run. Google advances at a much faster rate than apple with their OS. then not to mention the hardware manufacturers that use android. if verizon gets the iPhone it will take a small chunk out within the begining but then android developers and manufacturers and going to kick it into overdrive and pump out some unbelievable hardware.

People don't think that it will happen but I get AT&T goes into negative subscriber numbers.
I also bet that if this is an 'iphone' announcement that AT&Ts stock will fall too.

I would laugh my ass off if this was a windows mobile announcement.

I'm curious about something. Does this mean that jailbroken iphones will now work on the Verizon CMDA network?

Hope I will makes Android will improve more to face this Verizon iPhone. In my opinion, it may destruct the Android market if do nothing.

As an AT&T customer I am looking forward to this. AT&T works fine in my area but having a bunch of people off the network couldn't hurt.

I am hoping that this will happen, I don't think it will be immediate but over time I would like to see the towers freed up.

I don't believe there will be any sort of mass exodus from Att. Anyone with an iPhone 4 right now is only 7 months into there 24 month contract. I do believe there will be quite a few Verizon Androids users who will make the switch when there upgrade is possible. I remember readings post where people chose Android because it was really the only alternative on Verizon when they really wanted an iPhone.

In the grand scheme of things I believe it is better for Android that the iPhone is also going to Verizon. It will force Att to be more competitive in the Android market. They already annouced that they will be releasing 12(?) new phones in 2011, whether or not they will be any good is still up in the air, but it is progress.

I am just curious to see what version Verizon releases. I believe it will be a minor hardware update to fix the anntenna issue but not a full overhaul like an iPhone 4S. But if that's the case why would anyone on Verizon purchase the iPhone 4 now when the next update will probably come in June (if apple keeps to there schedule).

Also, it will not lead to the destruction of Android.

The Atrix makes me want to switch to AT$T, but sometime this year, I am sure we will see something similar on Big Red. iPhone does not stand a chance in the long run if they do not keep up.

I think this will hurt ATT. Verizon is launching its 4g network and will have Android phones that can use it. They will have an iPhone with better reception than an ATT iPhone (although it will likely not be a world phone). Apple will benefit as they will sell another couple of million iPhones to people who just avoided it because of ATT.

As for Android- well- initially it will affect some sales numbers. There are still lots of people who want to customize their phones, avoid Apple, prefer open environments, don't want to spend as much, would like a replaceable battery, don't want to use iTunes, etc. I think the impact will be greater to RIM, Win 7, WebOS, etc.

I dunno. To me the Atrix smells like vaporware to me. I think most people who own a high end smart phone and need a high end laptop as well already own said laptop.

In any case, I wouldn't be surprised to see the iPhone 5 come out later this year and be exclusive to ATT while the iPhone 4 stays with VZW. Then you'll the Apple sheep jump ship from VZW to ATT again.

There's a guy in another forum I'm on who is uber excited. The iPhone on ATT can surf the web while you're on the phone. To him this is a killer feature that he can't wait to have on VZW. *facepalm*

I'm not certain if this will impact AT&T much in the long run due to the radios (GSM vs. CDMA) in the iphones. It's a convenience to be able to talk and search at the same time which is a real advantage to some, unless the new 4G LTE on Verizon will now allow this to occur  But then again, some may jump ship because of the excellent customer service offered by Big Red. I for one will stay with android platform and T-mobile :D

I just read on Google News Sci Tech an article that said that feature will not be on Verizon's iPhone. Sorry for ur friend.

It's not a "feature" of the iPhone. It's a feature of any GSM network. Any Android phones on any GSM networks can do the exact same thing.
