[Verizon] [KERNEL][4.0.4] LeanKernel 3.10.0 (7/2)

Going on 4hrs screen on time with same setup as previous post but with extended battery. Couple of heavy downloads during this run, which I didn't do in my runs with standard battery. Also some video and pics taken in this run.

Geeszse, the large screen shot is kinda rude dude

I am using imgur and posting using tapatalk. Been using it for a while. Don't know any other way nor have I bothered. Can you help me so that I am not unintentionally "rude?"

No problem, its kinda tough tho. There is a setup in tap talk I am told where you can cut them down. Have a look. I'll live I'm sure.

a potential solution would be to
hide
the images

now i don't know if what you're using has a hide button, but i think if you put hide in brackets before the image and then /hide in brackets after the image it may work? maybe this isn't possible though...:o

EDIT: As you can see, I tried to hide.

Best screen on time I have ever gotten with this kernel!

Can you further explain cos I don't like how big the images are, personally, but have felt at a loss to "fix" the problem?

What are you doing for that 5+ hours of screen on time and what brightness % are you running?

I'm at 38% brightness, and I usually only get 2-2.5 hours of screen on time, but most of that is short bursts of time and usually the screen is being interacted with vs. it just sitting with the screen on and not doing anything. But I'm really curious how you manage to get 2x (and more like 3x my usual) screen on time!

IMO screen on time is really a vague indicator. I could use my calculator for 5+ hours no problem, but I would be hard pressed to get the same screen on time when doing other functions (browsing the internet for example).

Yeah that's precisely my point. I don't think we're comparing apples and apples just with a raw screen ontime value. Even if everyone was using the same % brightness, things like whether people are using inverted gapps, what they're doing with the phone while the screen is on, etc all factor into the number.

I think from now on if/when we report battery findings, in addition to including the standard screen shots, we should mention our screen brightness, what was being done during the majority of the screen-on time, whether using inverted gapps or other things that keep large portions of the screen black, etc. :)

I may be in error on the taptalk having this feature. I discussed this in another thread and tested several apps before finding one that worked well.

The person I was assisting replied how it only required a few more steps but worked well. There are examples posted. The app is called "Reduce Photo Size".

Go to this thread and you will see something familiar from me. Heh!

I think you helped me to get that going for mine too....using that now. Not too many extra steps, and works quickly once you get used to the settings.

Glad to hear is working good enough you like it. Sometimes things get old. I worked hard trying about 8 different resizing apps before finding that one.

I run dual 21.5" displays and when those taptalk screen shots come in I loose interest. Sometimes I open my big mouth,.

EDIT: I will answer with a screen brightness guess: ~15%.

Here is what I did during four battery cycles, swapping between standard and extended (in that order). Flashed kernel before first cycle.

Cycle 1: Let kernel settle, if you will. Most of my day spent at work on 3G. At home on Wi-Fi. Throughout the day my top activities are checking Tapatalk (dark theme; in app setting) and Google Reader (manual sync; no inverted apps, btw). Light Pandora streaming. Pics and video taken of baby, but light usage there.

Cycles 2 &3: Wash, rinse, repeat.

Cycle 4 (extended battery, if you are keeping up; cycle with 5hr 20min screen time on (total of 7.5hrs up time; no screenshot, sorry, but this test was legit, promise!))

At home all day, so Wi-Fi: I spent 4hrs, at least, in Tapatalk. Another ~hour using Google Reader. 10mins downloading an update for MC3 which resulted in a force close (mad cos I paid for that app; I am sure it'll be fixed though). The other 10mins can be chalked up to waking the device and entering my PIN/miscellaneous activity. This is as close to accurate as possible. Margin of error +/- 3%. :p

My Device: Craig's Rooted 4.0.4; Full Screen Mod; LMT Launcher w/ Pie Control; LeanKernel 2.5.0 Stable; LeanTweaks: 350/1200 min/max at boot; enabled: Swap & Zram; File System and SD Card Read Speed Up; No Color Control; Go High Speed Value: 80

So there it is folks. I may have missed something...don't know for sure.

By the by: My screen is amazing! When I got my Nexus replaced shortly after getting a crappy one on launch day, I made darn sure that the brightness and clarity was top notch. I looked at 7 Nexi at full brightness before leaving the store with the one from which I scribe this post. So I may be lucky to have the ability to run my brightness very low. And I know my eyes won't be this good forever but for now I have the ability to read the bottom line during a standard eye test during a routine checkup.

If you got this far you are a trooper. :)

/ranting.

wow and I thought I was running low at about 40%. I'm not sure I could stand 15% lol. Well that would account for it (assuming power usage scales linearly with brightness level) as I get about 2 hours and you get about 5 hours. :)

Some nice results jmar thx for sharing them all. Is the 5 hour screen on time test practical real world use for you on occasion or was this done strictly as "lets see what kind of screen on time I can get"?

I have not been having good results with any of imo's latest kernels. I get odd glitches and it just hasn't felt right. I'm learning over time that the GN is one picky a*s phone when it comes to kernels.

2.6.0 up and adam :)

My pleasure good sir.

To answer you question twice:

1) I had read a post in one of IMO's threads (here, Rootz, XDA) that basically stated that 5 hours was impossible to get and that anyone posting a 5 hour time needed pics or it didn't happen. So when 2.5 came around and I notice the near 0 battery drain with screen off using Ix and standard slots, I said, "This can be done!" So I did it! Thankfully, I forgot which forum I had seen the challenge post, so I just posted my experience without any rub it in your face tone.

2) Now that I have been running this kernel for almost a week I can say that this is my favs. I might stay on it for a while...LOL! I am getting some awesome screen times during normal usage. I average 3.75hrs SOT.

Check this out!: Yesterday I streamed Pandora for 8hrs straight whilst a work, screen off of course! Battery started at 97%. End of shift 63%!

Loving this kernel!

Well with you guys giving this a glowing endorsement I decided to give it a try. I know I had a BIG battery improvement coming off of AOKP M4 to LiquidSmooth. So we'll see how this goes.

I have a quick question regarding flashing kernels. I did a backup with Clockwork Mod before I flashed the kernel. If I decide I want to undo that, I can restore and it will be back to the way it was before I flashed it, correct?

A CWM restore will restore your phone to it's exact state it was in when you made the backup, kernels included. So yes, if you restore you will be back to the kernel you had when you made the backup, prior to you flashing 2.6.0 (or 2.5.0 whichever one you flashed :))

Of course this is all assuming that I understand the way you worded your query :p

This one is behaving a lot better than 2.4. I had horrible battery life on that one.

However, I'm still getting the same dreaded "Android OS" bug that uses all the power. But at least it's better with 2.6.0

Just updated to AOKP b28...had 2.6 installed...but had to revert back to 2.4. Gonna give this a couple of days, then see if I can go to 2.6 exp.
