VERIZON M8 4.4.3 Update

I really think this device does not need a lot of fixing. One of the best I have ever owned. The battery is much better than I expected and I really think HTC did a fantastic job with Sense on this device (beside BlinkFeed).

I read that some Verizon customers were getting surveys about pre-installed software...probably because of all the negative feedback from users. The HTC One M8 is by far the most bloatware polluted phone I have ever owned.

I hope Verizon and HTC are paying attention (most likely not).

Also, my wishlist beside the removal of bloat is...

-Fix the Gallery and get rid of that preview window, whatever that is
-Ditch BlinkFeed - I have no use for it, eats battery and is not removable
-I seem to be having GPS issues when using Google Maps, but I need to do more testing and research, could just be my phone

What I would really love to see is a Google Play edition for Verizon...

I understand people don't like bloatware, I don't either. But it used to be more of a practical matter, like the phone didn't have a lot of internal space to waste on bloat. This phone has plenty of space. They even put all the bloat apps in their own folders. I don't even notice the bloat on this phone. YMMV

I would like to see the bluetooth fixed so that it connects properly instead of sometimes connecting but having no audio anyway and making me disconnect/reconnect.

when the update comes around would i still be able to get the update being that i got stationed overseas and am now using an italian carrier(wind) but have a verizon m8 and planning on still using my service when coming home?
should also mention my phone is rooted

That is a good question. Part of me wants to say you would not get the update since it is pushed by Verizon's servers and, therefore, would not "see" your phone (or vice versa). But then another part of me is thinking you would because, unlike the OG Droid days, these updates can be downloaded via WiFi and therefore, your phone would "see" the update (or vice versa).

Keep an eye on these forums and when you see that the update is out, let us know if you get it or not. I'm sure it would be useful info for others in the future....

reading what you said made me think... i really doubt ill get it now unless i pop in my verizon sim and reactivate my account momentarily to download via wifi. which would be a pain to try and get a hold of verizon over here. that being said would it be easier to use adb to flash the new firmware from the ota when it is released... i do have S-off and superCID

Being that you are rooted, you do NOT want to take an OTA update. They almost always break root and are not always re-rootable right away, if at all.

Since you are s off, you should have no problems getting the latest and greatest, even before the OTA's come out.

Check out ViperOne ROMs. I used to love ViperInc when I had the Droid Incredible 2. I hear things are even better with Viper on the One.

okay thanks. another question i was looking at vipersroms and they have there new one out 2.3 but they recommend get the new 4.4.3 firmware and trusted sources i could use considering verizon hasnt put one out yet

I'm in the same boat. 4.4.3 hasn't dropped yet on verizon. Once it comes out then you can update the firmware and upgrade your ViperOne.

s-off will not be affected.
An S-OFF phone that’s updated to a new software version that patches the exploit used to obtain S-OFF generally will not re-enable security on that phone. You should still be S-OFF.

Then root your way to bloat free heaven. It's not that complicated
Actually isn't completely HTC's fault. I have friends with the m7 on AT&T and Verizon and they're loaded with bloatware. However, my m8 has hardly any bloatware. Almost all of it can be uninstalled and the few that can't are simply disabled and hidden.

I thought I had read they were going to skip 4.4.3 and just go to 4.4.4 and integrate the improvements of 4.4.3 in with it. Can't seem to find the graphic I saw it in anymore though.

I thought it was integrate 4.4.4's improvements into 4.4.3, skip 4.4.4, and go straight from 4.4.3 to Android L.
