Verizon plan and fees questions

So if I was to buy a xoom when it came out and cancel after a month to use it as a wifi only tablet is all I pay to verizon $20?
I do not have verizon so is there an activation fee?
Is there a cancellation fee?

This is using verizon's 3g tablets 1gb month by month plan.
 
My guess you pay 500-600 for the tablet plus an activation fee and a month to month contract which can be cancelled anytime after the first month.

$20.00 seems unrealistic.
 
The month by month is $20 for 1 gb did new galaxy tab owners have to pay an activation fee? If so how much? I really want this tablet but since I'm not with verizon it loks like I'm going to have to pay a lot...
 
The activation fee is $35, but I've never paid one in my 10 years with Verizon. I have always asked them to waive it, and they have done so without argument.
 
well if the tablet is only $500 then that's $555 plus tax for 1 month of service and a wifi tablet from there on out so for that price it's definately worth it. I just hope it is that cheap. If it's over $600 I might not get it.

Not seeing the cost dynamics of a tablet with a carrier making much sense. Find another without a carrier. Unless you have the money to burn- then cool :)

The data fee for what you get is crazy. Price of device is too when considering two years data fee.
 
The reasoning for this tablet is simple:
1. AT&T won't get a good tablet
2. all wifi only tablets announced so far are too small or have a custom ui.
3. This tablet has the specs and screen size that I want. I don't want a small tablet.
4. I trust motorola products

If they release a wifi only version I will probably get that but having the option to have 3g or even 4g is nice. I don't need it right now but a year from now things will be different and I might re-activate it.

What do you think the chances are of it being 500-600
 
Personally, I think it will be $599 and no option for anything other than month-to-month data.

I think Verizon would sell more that way, compared to offering $699 (full retail), $599 (1 year), $499 (2 year). If they do straight-up $599, they'll have Android fans from every carrier flocking to their stores on launch day.
 
If its that price and month by month I will definitely get it. A contract on a tablet doesn't make sense when you think about it. Thanks for the answers if I think of anything to add I'll post here. If there is anything anyone wants to add to the conversation I'll still be watching the thread.

Yeah, I definitely don't want a 1 or 2 year contract with the Xoom, but I will definitely be using 3G data (4G once available in my market).

I would just rather pay month to month.
 
I'm interested in this as well. I would only use it on WiFi so hoping you don't have to sign a contract. Essentially, I'd like to replace my laptop with this, but only if I can get it without a data plan. I can tether my Inc if I need to use the XOOM outside of a WiFi area.
 
I am curious as to if the data plan is something that you must add to your existing Verizon account if you have one; or, if it is something that is completely standalone and does not require "attaching" it to your existing account and you could just assign a credit card to be charged monthly.

Whatever you do don't wait a whole month to cancel your plan. If you cancel within 3 days (I plan to cancel tonight after walking out of Best Buy), Verizon's policies dictate that the $35 activation fee is waived AND you are only on the hook for data used in a prorated fashion (which means basically you owe nothing).

So are you suggesting that this now means that month-to-month plans will no longer be required when purchasing at Best Buy? Because Best Buy was the only one who required this, thus they would be the only one that such a policy change would apply to (in other words, the month to month thing was never required by Verizon in the first place).

I am pretty much going into Best Buy and telling them that "Verizon doesn't require this so you have no right to charge me."

Otherwise I am going to the Verizon store.

Yeah I'm almost thinking the same thing at this point. I mean I'll flat out tell the Best Buy associate that my plan is, literally right after he/she signs me up for the plan, that I will be calling Verizon to cancel it, probably in my car in the Best Buy parking lot. It's idiotic that I have to do this.

yeah I checked the Verizon site just now and you still have to select month to month if paying full price. I'm at a Verizon store right now(only one here) and I seriously doubt in going to be able to convince them that I don't have to activate it. I'm not so sure activating it is such a bad idea anyway. Go ahead and get the activation fee out of the way for when/if I activate at a later date. The best reason not to activate is so they don't open up my box and touch my xoom before me. :)
 
I suppose I will say that the one really good thing about making your Xoom launch day purchase at Best Buy is that the Future Proof program will be free, but only through the next few days.
 
So I thought the ETF was gonna be $350, and when my receipt was printed, it clearly says $175. Now if I want to cancel my data, I paid less than $800 :)

Well now that the Zoom is out and available I have a few questions about Verizon's data that I just can't get to the bottom of. I just ordered a Xoom off the moto site.

I'm guessing I will be able to use this out of the box without having to activate it through Verizon at all. Let me know if I'm wrong on that one.

Can I turn the data service on for a month at a time? Say I know i'm going to be traveling for work, can i subscribe for a month then shut it off when i get back home? Would I have to pay the 35 dollar activation fee everytime? How long can I suspend for?

My apologies if this has been covered already. Searched for the forms with no answers.
