[Verizon] Please help! installed wrong kernal now stuck on google screen.

Pull your battery. Put it back in. Hold volume up and down and then press power until the phone boots. toggle volume until you see recovery. Press power. I personally would then do the full wipe and either restore a nandroid or flash a new ROM.

tried that already
how can i get a new kernal on there from there? the only options i have are

start
restart bootloader
recovery mode
Power off

select recovery mode, choose "backup and restore", then load the backup you (hopefully) made before installing the new kernel.

You will need to flash a new kernel. Assuming you don't have a 4.0.2 kernel in a .zip on your device, you will need to do it via ADB from a computer.

There are numerous threads on how to flash a kernel so I won't try to rehash it here. Start with initial threads on installing a kernel or ROM. If you don't mind a full data wipe it may be easier to just install a whole ROM as most include a kernel.

Just boot to recovery, factory reset/data wipe, reflash ROM. Then download the right kernel, reboot to recovery, and flash it.

Make a backup once you get it running. The very first thing you do when you root is to make a backup. There are no excuses. I don't mean to be very harsh but this might be a lesson for those reading.

if i could thank you more than once for this response, i would. make a backup before you do ANYTHING rom, kernel, or theme related. it only takes 1 click and will save you a ton of headaches down the road.

I can't use ABD it has to be in USB debugging mode and my phone is stuck on the black google screen! what other options are there me or is there another way around this.

Adb should work while in recovery. Push the new kernel to the SD card partition, then wipe cache and dalvik in recovery, then flash new kernel.

So you rooted without getting adb set up first? You might want to go back to stock unrooted at this point and make sure rooting is what you really want to do.

At this point, from bootloader highlight recovery with the vol keys, hit the power, reflash the rom from within recovery. If you don't know what I'm talking about or you can't do it for some reason then you need to go back to stock. You will also need to read the process over, fully understand it, take your time and go step by step. Good luck.

I only just downloaded the abd today and i followed a guide to set my phone up but it says i need usb debugging which i can't turn on.

Sadly i do not have a clue what your saying to make it easier i just want a simple way to turn my phone back on then i can sort all this root business out when i understand more.

I managed to do it on a restore point i did it back to the earliest and it went back to the guys who i bought it off with all his data :S is this normal lol least the phones back on though

At least the phone is on. Consider yourself lucky. Once you delete all his data and have the phone set up to your liking, make a backup (Reboot to recovery. Select 'backup and restore' with the volume rocker then press the power button. Select 'backup' with the volume rocker then press the power button. Let it create a backup then select 'reboot system now' with the power button).

Once you've done that, I suggest taking bjanow's advice and reading up on unlocking/rooting before you take any further steps toward rooting your phone.

Good luck and remember that we are here to help if you need it.

That guy didn't do a very good job of protecting himself if you are on his nandroid. Considering you are now getting his email and potentially have access to various account data. Might want to consider a factory reset, up to you.
