Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

I hope this is true and that Verizon is just playing it safe by pushing the date back. I don't understand why Verizon is not releasing its phone the same time as as all the other major carriers. This ad is most likely a result of Samsung - Verizon communication error.

Fellow peeps:

1. The only people that know what the current launch date is will be several people in their marketing department, that includes the product manager.

2. Store staff in general are confused about the terms in regards to keeping unlimited data or not. This is per friends and a training manager that work for VZW.

3. The S4 dual 28nm is in high demand, so anybody wanting a SG3 in a third wave of ordering might be waiting a while. Depending on demand, maybe some in the second wave as well.

Impressions from friends is VZW corporate are not exactly managing this launch, nor the data plan transition very well.

Due to this confusion and demand issues the first wave of pre orders will arrive in the second of week July somewhere between the 9th and 12th. After I ordered my phone on the 6th I received an Email stating the Ship date is actually July 9th. From Everthing I have read and seeing the confusion and demand A July 12th launch date in stores makes sense. I was hoping for a June but that is just a dream :(

Wow! Just checked my order status and checked out the new ship date !

Expected Ship Date: 07/24/2315

Just shaved off over 10 thousand years from my previous estimate

Vic - I'm not here to cause problems with the folks waiting for the SIII - but - if you're looking for something "smaller" (and proven), why don't you look in to the RAZR MAXX? I know that there's a $100 off deal - I think it ends today.

The maxx isn't really that much smaller and you are getting older tech in the maxx.

at least you have an expected ship date.... albeit 303 yrs in the future:p

Mine is "not available at this time"

I just ordered 2 sg3 phones today. I wanted to wait till the new BB10 was out, but I wanted to keep my unlimited data plan. I have only had a blackberry smart phone for the last 4 years, so this will be a long, painful learning curve. I am sure I will be on this site needing lots of help.

Welcome to the forums, Dpopps! :D

Well you are not alone. I was actually quite content with my Palm Pixi ($50 no contract) and before that I had a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone from before Android as even on the map. I think the G1 had just come out. So besides messing with my wife's old Incredible, I am completely green when it comes to Android. With the Palm I missed out on apps, but it did probably 70% of what I'll ever do on a phone just fine (web, email, streamed Pandora/Slacker/YouTube...even had OpenTable and Yelp apps) and I liked the small size and keyboard. WebOS could have been something if it had better support. If it weren't for the looming death of unlimited data, I probably would have just kept it. I was waiting for a top notch Android phone that wasn't huge, but now here I am buying one of the biggest. Hopefully I can put it in the chest pocket of a suit jacket. Looking forward to digging into the world of Android though.

Welcome to you too, Vic! :D

Let me assure you both: it's NOT a long, painful curve to learn Android UNLESS you plan to get into the advanced stuff like rooting, ROMming, overclocking and really modding your device. If you plan on being a casual Android user, though, I think you're in for a pleasant surprise at how truly intuitive the whole system is.

As an Androider since November 2009, I can attest to the growing pains that Android has experienced along the way... and it's not a perfect OS yet. Never will be. Nothing is. But no doubt you'll be pleased with your choice of device and how well it all really works.

And if you DO get stuck or have a question about any functionality, there are plenty of helpful people here to assist you.

:)

It appears that the phone will be in ATT stores next week, I plan on holding and petting and naming one George there before pulling the trigger on a Verizon pre-order. Something about the whole gotta-do-it-before-the-28th thing just sticks in my craw though, and I'm halfway thinking about just jumping ship and joining my fiance's plan on ATT anyway. Been with Verizon since they were GTE (anyone else remember that?), though, and never had a complaint - but this is not about loyalty any longer.

My $0.02, How 'bout the Rezound? Great specs, pocketable, ICS out next month.

It's sad to say, but there is no loyalty in the world today. Whether your a customer of a company or the company you work for. It's become an every man for himself world, and Verizon taking away its unlimited data is just a slap in the face to us long time customers. I to have been here since the GTE days.

IMO the Rezound is too bulky and heavy. While the GS3 is big, its also very light which will make it easier to hold. Its about 30 grams lighter than the Rezound I believe, and 5 mm thinner. I held the Rezound and it was just way too thick and bulky, not to mention it has overheating issues as well as a ton of other issue. I wouldnt go for the Rezound, but thats just my opinion.

I concur. I had to call about possibly changing my shipping address, and the csr I spoke with said it will ship on the 9th,2nd day air, and arrive on our doorsteps on the 11th. Sad for me, I will have to wait until the 12th for mine. Curse you camping trip!

AT&T has already announced they will be changing to Tiered Data in the Future as well. No date announced yet thought. Sprint is the only carrier to offer unlimited data. Once they get back on there feet with subscribers they will probably go to tiered data as well. I do not like Verizon's move either but if you preorder your phone now you should be able to keep your unl. The number of people left on UNL data will be so small I do not think they are going to bother us until we try to upgrade and then they will get us. We are only a very very small part of the data population.

I am really hyped up on N O explode right now. I hope that made sense.

At&t has had tiered data for awhile.

Ya sorry I meant to say a shared data plan. Either way, I still do not understand peoples reasoning for leaving Verizon and going to AT&T they are not going to get an unlimited plan. Your better of upgrading now Keeping your UNL until you have to Upgrade and see what your options are then. Of course this is just my opinion.

No, you're right - I won't be gaining anything, saving any money, or getting unlimited if I switch to ATT. But I won't be spending money with Verizon any longer. Just a matter of principle.

And here's what bothers me the most - if I had not gone looking for a new phone, been a member of this forum, and learned about the data change on here, would I have gotten caught with my pants down a few months (or years) down the road? What if I waited until next year to get a new phone, would I have not known about the loss of unlimited data? I mean, where was the heads up by Verizon to let unsuspecting customers upgrade before the drop-dead date of June 28th? Or was it there and I just missed it?

So, I've already ordered the 16 gig in blue, but am having second thoughts. I may want the extra storage of the 32 gig. Should I cancel my order and get the 32 gig, or wait 'till it comes and exchange in store before I open the box? Decisions, decisions.

Sorry I hope you did not think I was trying to insult you or anyone else. I apologize to anyone else if you were thinking that. I agree 100% Verizon once gave me a 51,000 dollar cell phone bill and it took them 3 months to refund it. That is when I learned about this site and it saved my a**. Your exactly right without this site many people would have been lost in the dark. There were a few articles posted online that stated we could keep unl date if we pre ordered. You just had to Google to find it.

It probably wasn't like this everywhere, but the change was on the front page of the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper. But then again, who actually gets a newspaper anymore?

More like "what's a newspaper?" lol

If Verizon really wanted their customers to be aware of these changes they should email everyone who has an account with them. Or send a free text to every phone on their network or something.

Put simply most people don't care enough about these sort of changes to put effort in. Only people like us who are on forums like this and/or read tech news sites or what not know about these changes and are acting accordingly and telling our families and friends.

I actually went a slightly different route. I ordered the 32 and am not getting any SD card yet. Based on my past few years with the androids, I never needed it. So I'll run and store everything on-board, and get a card if/when I ever need it

I also ordered the 32GB version, but for a different reason.

We are very storage-intensive around here. I have roughly 23GB eaten up on my Nexus. I decided to use internal memory vice SD card because it's a LOT faster as far as transfer rate goes.

I had a 32GB card in my previous phone. Video stuttered as the card tried to push data out as fast as the phone wanted it. I suppose a Class 10 card would be sufficient; given the option, though, I'd rather have internal. It's just faster IMHO :)

At&t is a gsm carrier so you can get unlocked phones and not deal with carriers taking forever for updates. Plus at&t hspa is faster than verizons 3g. If Verizon took away my unlimited I would look at at&t and tmo, because it isn't about unlimited data it's about how Verizon has been royally screwing over their customers since they have gotten the iphone.( taking away 1 yr contracts, no NE2 discount anymore, higher phone prices until recently)
