Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

No, you're right - I won't be gaining anything, saving any money, or getting unlimited if I switch to ATT. But I won't be spending money with Verizon any longer. Just a matter of principle.

I feel the same way about AT&T. The regularly dropped calls, CSR slamming (i.e. adding features to increase their commissions without your permission) and clueless retail store clerks made me swear off AT&T for good. IMO Verizon in California has a far superior network. The CSRs are all just as lame, so as long as I can avoid dealing with them, then I am happy because at least I get good call quality and reliable data. That's what I am paying for, right?

Sorry I hope you did not think I was trying to insult you or anyone else. I apologize to anyone else if you were thinking that. I agree 100% Verizon once gave me a 51,000 dollar cell phone bill and it took them 3 months to refund it. That is when I learned about this site and it saved my a**. Your exactly right without this site many people would have been lost in the dark. There were a few articles posted online that stated we could keep unl date if we pre ordered. You just had to Google to find it.

No, I didn't take it that way all, was just conceding the fact that you were technically correct. No worries, we're cool - got the bad droid x battery thing in common as well! I'll just feel better about pre-ordering once I have a chance to get it in my hot little hands, and the whole thing will be a moot point.

My fiance' will give me a hard time occasionally about "my forums" (as he calls them), but I swear it's the way to go these days if you want to know what's going on with whatever you're interested in - it's how I chose which truck to buy, twice! And it's amazing how many weird little computer issues I've solved (I'm in IT) by finding the same problem discussed online.

And here's what bothers me the most - if I had not gone looking for a new phone, been a member of this forum, and learned about the data change on here, would I have gotten caught with my pants down a few months (or years) down the road? What if I waited until next year to get a new phone, would I have not known about the loss of unlimited data? I mean, where was the heads up by Verizon to let unsuspecting customers upgrade before the drop-dead date of June 28th? Or was it there and I just missed it?

Youre really not sticking it to anybody by going to att. If you want to vote with your wallet go to sprint or something like virgin mobile

Thanks for the suggestions on phones. I considered my options like the Rezound (smaller), Maxx (battery and slightly smaller), and Nexus ("pure" ICS, slightly smaller) and decided just to go for the current top spec phone if I am getting into another (and probably my last) contract for the first time in 4.5 years. If I really hate it, I'll buy an Incredible LTE for retail when they are out and you'll find a barely used GSIII available on swappa or somewhere like it.

I think I'll get into tinkering with the phone, so I liked that Samsung doesn't lock anything down like Moto and it seems like Touchwiz is hated slightly less than Sense. Plus I figure the dev community for this should be one of the larger groups out there, besides the Nexus. Ideally I'd wait and see the early user reviews, but VZW forced our hand here. I know the knock on Samsung has been the quality of their radio, but DC Metro area has pretty strong VZW signal and it is different than the Nexus. If you believe the specs, the battery life should be strong without being Maxx-sized.

I would like to order all my stuff before my phone gets to me. I want to pick up one of those usb to hdmi things to hook it up to the tv. Most of the ones I see on ebay are for i9300. would that work? or will I have to wait till i535 ones come out? Thanks

I pre-ordered the S3 on June 14 and when I go check the order status, it says no order number has been found. Should I wait a few more days for my order to process or should I contact Verizon and ask them about my order?

I preorderd on the first day and still get that... It doesn't matter

I did read the other day, the old adapter would not work. But I am only seeing ones one ebay for the i9300. I will be getting the us version i535. I was not sure if the i9300 for the s3 would work fine on the i535?

that link also has a place to buy the official cable for sg3 , scroll down and watch the video

I would wait to receive it and exchange in store if you are trying to keep an unlimited plan. Although I believe you will get to keep the unlimited plan, I wold not do anything to jeopardize that.

So, I've already ordered the 16 gig in blue, but am having second thoughts. I may want the extra storage of the 32 gig. Should I cancel my order and get the 32 gig, or wait 'till it comes and exchange in store before I open the box? Decisions, decisions.

make sure you enter the preorder number and not the order number.

It appears that the phone will be in ATT stores next week, I plan on holding and petting and naming one George there before pulling the trigger on a Verizon pre-order. Something about the whole gotta-do-it-before-the-28th thing just sticks in my craw though, and I'm halfway thinking about just jumping ship and joining my fiance's plan on ATT anyway. Been with Verizon since they were GTE (anyone else remember that?), though, and never had a complaint - but this is not about loyalty any longer.

gte holla! customer since 1995.

This may sound stupid, but did anyone else do a transfer upgrade from a dumbphone or tiered data line to keep their unlimited data? I don't know how I missed it, but just looked over my receipt email from verizon for my preorder on the 12th and it is showing the 2GB $30 plan, but the salesperson told me I was keeping unlimited and I confirmed it multiple times. I'm thinking it may be that the order is 100% tied to my sister's dumbphone line and that the 2GB is meant for her line and I just need to call in and activate the phone on my line to avoid her line getting the 2GB plan. However the email doesn't mention which number the order is tied to so I can't be certain that the contract isn't technically for my line. The only thing I do know is that the myverizon site shows her line as waiting for a phone to activate. Can anyone confirm that this is normal for a transfer upgrade? I'm calling in the morning tomorrow but would like to have some piece of mind before then that verizon hasn't completely screwed me over.

Also the phone number that I agreed to extend the contract on over the phone was my sister's line technically. Not sure if that does mean it is for her line which is the reason it is like that or not.

Yeah, the phone is on your sisters line. When it comes in you will need to activate it on her line, but then you can immediately switch her line back to the dumbphone, and then move the GS3 to your line.

I think the store release day will be about 15 days after June 28th. This will keep people from buying a phone and then returning it within the 14 day return period.

I'm going to go get a razr maxx from best buy along with my $50 gift card. If the S3 turns out to be that good then I have 30 days to return the maxx, no restocking fee and just use the $50 gift card and get the 32gb S3.

What does the 28 have to do with anything? Plus if people know the phone is coming they will rent a phone like many did before the nexus came out.

The 28th is the last day to keep your unlimited before they switch to the family share plan.

This does not affect pre-orders, only those that don't preorder.

For example:

I go to verizon store on 28th, buy a razr maxx and keep my unlimited data. 15 days later S3 comes out and I want to return it, nope. i'm outside the 14 day window to return.

That's what I did :)

wow goes to show you verizon aint fooling around , good thing pre ordered

Rep at local VZ store told me he believes the pre-orders will ship before the July 9/10th. - just his personal thoughts. But, has any phone pre-order really been in the hands of consumers before they're out in stores? Doesn't make sense.

As a matter of fact yes they have. The driod incredible. I believe the release date in stores was the 29th and I received my the 28th as many others did. Some claim to have received it before the 28th.

I will also confirm this. Got my Dinc a day before the release date.

I don't know if this happened to anybody else but when I pre-ordered the Droid X I got it 14 days before I was told I would. I'm still hoping the same kind of thing will happen with the S3. I got an email back from a rep saying she also ordered the S3 and that they would ship on June 9th. I don't know though. They could just be saying all of this to surprise us. I mean to this point there has been no official release date and on my computer yesterday I saw an add from Samsung saying the S3 would release on June 21. And another site updated yesterday as it releasing for June 21 for Verizon. So we'll see

The ad you were referencing is a generic ad and changes carriers everyrime you refresh. It is launching the 21 just not on Verizon.
