Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Sorry if this has been asked already or discussed, but I've been enjoying the off-topic speculation as to when it will be released.

For my question:

I am on a family plan with my mom and dad. My mom can upgrade her phone in November. When she upgrades, will her being forced to upgrade to a tier plan then get rid of my unlimited I have with the S3?

Nope. You're locked into unlimited on your phone for the length of your contract. The other phones on your account don't have an effect on that.

Welcome to the forums!!!

Answer: root

more than that, I have a Droid X at the moment with locked boot loader. It is harder to get custom ROMs due to being locked into the stock kernel for the OS. In this case GB. This is why I never jumped on the Razr or Razr max. Both have locked boot loaders which limits my option.

I guarantee if they take too long I will be on a custom JB ROM. Then onto Key Lime Pie with or with out Samsung.

psh. . stone IPA or perhaps a nice fresh dogfish head 60 min please. . . I don't get a sweet deal on my data but I do get a deal and to make up for it I get a really nice discount (as in cheaper than cost) on about half the craft beer available in Ohio. So, with the amount of beer I drink, winning (charlie sheen voice).

Dogfish Head Midas Touch FTW!!!!

Oh, and so I'm not off topic with this post...umm...hmm...Oh, I got it!

Just checked my status and it's showing that it will ship out on the 9th not sure if anyone has posted that yet or not.

We received your order and it is in process. Expected Ship Date: 07/09/2012

I'll one up you -

Oscar Blues Deviant Dales !!!!! :D

I'm in the process of flashing JB to my Gnex... starting to consider giving the fiancee the GS3 and keeping the Gnex:o

Wooo Hooo!!! Looks like the devs have figured out how to root the AT&T GS3 without tripping the flash counter!!:D Hopefully it will be ported to the VZW GS3 version!!!

[REF] Samsung Custom Flash Counter - ROOT NOW ACHIEVABLE on i747 W/O TRIPPING COUNTER - xda-developers

Does this mean it'll have all of its features or will things like the camera or wifi no work? I really don't see the point of doing this if key features are still months away from being ported.

-This is an honest post. I'm still a total noob to Android.

With non Nexus Samsung phones they include software to indicate if you have rooted (flashed roms or kernals). Although Samsung does not typically make it hard to unlock and root their phones these flash counters (non nexus) void your warranty!!!

What I posted is that Devs have already found a solution for the ATT version so you can root/unlock and then be able to restore to stock without losing your warranty!!!

Roms will come with all working features in short time... but without this you cannot root/unlock/flash without losing your warranty.

No reason to qualify your question... I'm always happy to help!! :)

With VZ being "late" to the game, all the bugs should be worked out of the root/ROMing process and it will be a cake walk for us! :D

Well awesome, thanks for the fast response!

Thanks :D I like how fast these forums move! It doesn't take long to get the info you're looking for :)

You must really be new here. I've been waiting 3 weeks to find out when I get my new S3 and I still don't have an answer!

You must be from the Cincinnati area - Jungle Jim's is a bit of a magnet! We try to only visit there twice a year otherwise we'd end up bankrupt!

It's really rather amusing how these phone vendors keep trying to stop us from rooting and our wonderful devs keep sidestepping whatever the vendors come up with. They just won't learn. :) Why not just LET US root the phones and quite fighting the inevitable?

Isn't rooting essentially jailbreaking? How's Samsung able to void your warranty, if that's the case?

Yep. Jailbreaking is sort of an Apple term, but essentially the same thing.

Phone vendors don't want to relinquish mind control.....er, I mean control of your phone. So if they discover you have rooted it (usually only when you have to take it to them if it dies) they then refuse to honor the warranty. As long as nothing goes wrong, they never deal with it.

Jailbreaking voids your warranty with Apple (I'm an ex Iphone jailbreaker:D). I always un-jailbroke my Iphone before going in for a warranty reason. While I don't believe in it.... you are modifying there software and therefore voids your warranty.

No reason to fret.... Dev's will find a solution to keep your warranty. Just be patient to root until a method has been found;)

What he said. :) It is customary to not even ask for any kind of root ability date while they are working on it. Best to keep it on the QT. It's been proven that phone carrier 'spies' hang on on these forums. :D

Some folks will rush into trying established root procedures for previous phones, hoping it will work. When you do that, you are playing russian roulette that you will kill (brick) your phone. Knowing a routine has been approved by the devs who do this stuff is the safe way to go.

im pretty sure this is gonna be the same hardwarre on all carriers, but i'm not sure because if it is the same...

why is it being released so much later than on other carriers?!

My speculation would be that has something to do with the bloatware Verizon will load up on it. Even though the hardware may be virtually the same, the software packages the carriers shove into the phones will differ. Verizon might be working on something that has been problematic, and they haven't sorted it out yet. Or I suppose it could have something to do with the specific CDMA frequency bands Verizon uses. As I understand it those do very across carriers to some degree.

It's VZW.... they do things when THEY want and at the speed THEY want!!;) When you have the biggest and best network... you can do things like this:(
