Verizon Pre-order, Release date, and speculation thread

Verzion just kept this customer. Will this drop before the end of the grand fathered unlimited data ends? Also any guess what off contract price will be?

I was wondering about this myself, because the last I heard the grandfathering would remain UNLESS you purchased a subsidized phone. There is wording in the Verizon press release that makes me think the GF/subsidation may have already began:

"Customers that purchase a Galaxy S III will need to subscribe to a 4G LTE mobile broadband data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data."

Of course that may only be in the release for new customers. Guess we will have to wait till Wednesday morning to find out for sure.

Can't wait to get this phone! A Verizon Rep told me I will be able to keep unlimited data, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's wrong. Does anyone know if the s3 has a micro or regular sim slot?

Doit2it, we must be on about the same timeline, my DroidX has juuuust about hit EOL, I'm afraid, and I have a weird issue going on with the screen. Am looking at maybe replacing it with this one as well! I'm assuming you're with Verizon? I get a whopping $30 credit for re-upping. Yay (not).

I'm going to assume that means "new customers " just like every other smartphone verizon sells...

They claimed that they would give warning before any data plan changes were made...

well, my Fascinate started to show on the notification dropdown that the data usage widget is available...first time I've seen that in my last two years of ownership. I wonder if it is the hint. ;)

According to droid life - This is good news:

Looks like we may get to keep unlimited data and upgrade. Very cool ...

Thanks! Here is the story link. Makes me feel a little better. Lets hope their PR guy knows what he's talking about.

Yeah, had my DX since launch date. Been eligible for an upgrade since May 16th of LAST year (the DX was my last 1 year contract with Verizon). My DX is still going strong, currently running a CM9 ICS ROM. Nothing has really tempted me till the SG3. I'll be pre-ordering on Wednesday AM. Time to set the DX down for good, and keep my unlimited data!

Same here but had to drop off ICS. Too many things I need didn't work so back to GB. Got it day it came out also.

Why do they have to be so cryptic with this whole unlimited data thing... Does that mean the S3 will be released before the plan change, or that this is our 2 minute warning and the change is coming soon???

I would rather wait for the HD/Fighter and choose, but not with the chance of losing unlimited..?

They're being really sneaky with the details for PR purposes. Once they announce the date of tiered data, other companies can advertise against that directly. Not to mention the inevitable customer exodus.

With regards to a new phone, if you pre-order the s3 on Wednesday, you should/will keep unlimited. After that, nothing is guaranteed. Looks like the inc 4g and razr hd are being held back for shared data plans.

^^^^this. I am going with a GS3 for the upgrade on my second line to get in before the shared plans.

Seems that if VZW wanted to trojan horse their purge of unilimted data plans, the SG3 would have been the device to do it with. Maybe they will push the horse into the gates with the iPhone 5? ;)

As long you we pre-order the phone tomorrow we should be fine with our unl date. I highly doubt Verizon will be able to update the online system to tiered data in the next 24 hours. I would imagine that during pre-order you have fill out the upgrade info so that should cover it :) I am just going to get the 16gb and use my 32gig sd card. With 2gb ram I don't think SD would be slow at all.

Does anyone know why cant we order the galaxy s3 today through website but u can from best buy. Do u know if we can preorder right now if we call Verizon?

Ok I get that Verizon is on the 6th but if there is not enough phones on launch day will best buy get them first or will Verizon get theirs first

A little research on your part and doing a little reading on this and other forums would have answered your question.

Verizon is only sending so many to Best Buy, what they do with them is their decision. In the past Best Buy has over done their preorders and had people not able to get a phone first day depsite preordering with them.

If you preorder with Best Buy do it at a store, and make sure you are one of the first 3-10 depending on size of the local market. Small, 3 medium maybe 5, large town store in populous area maybe up to 10. These numbers are just my suggestion, no math behind them.

But honestly there isn't more to be said. Best Buy is just committing what stock they get which they don't know how many ahead of time.

I've never preordered before and was wondering how this works. I will be out of town on release day (I know Verizon hasn't officially announced it but I'm going off of Sprint's day) and was wondering if Verizon mails the preordered phones out, or are they to be picked up in the store? If mailed, will phones be delivered on the day they go on sale at the store or is that when they get shipped? I've been waiting to upgrade for about 6 months and want to get the phone asap. Thanks for any help.

So kill me already. Another forum posted July 9 as delivery dates for S3. It shows what looks like a photo of an internal Verizon document that shows that phones will be shipped by July 9. I need a bridge to jump off.

Alright so I can't wait for this phone either. I called my local Atnt store and they said that I can actually pre order it today June 5th? The guy also said, after putting me on hold and double checking, that it will be available in the store on sunday the 10th. He said in that case I shouldn't pre order and just pick it up in the store. I'm not sure how true this is, but I will be calling tomorrow to double check.

Best buy is showing june 28th for Verizon on my preorder slip. They said vzw will announce it on the 12th so who knows?

I just got off the phone with Verizon and he said that I won't loose my unlimited data during the pre-order tomorrow. He said that doesn't go into effect until they change the data plans. He said that they are being told near the end of summer.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, he said that they will have both the white and blue as well as the 16GB & 32GB models. And also that they have a bunch of accessories already in the system.
