[Verizon] Problem with recovery after root

magpullin

Well-Known Member
Flashed Clockwork Mod. Pushed SU Zip and installed it via CWM. Rebooted. Saw SU in app drawer and DL ROM manager from Market. Went to do a back up from ROM Manager, but it says I need to install CWM Recovery. Tried to go back into Recovery through Bootloader and get a Android Guy with red triangle. Pulled the battery and rebooted.
What do I need to do now?????

Also, check out this post:

http://androidforums.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/474570-how-all-things-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#post3736600

which says:

Flashed custom recovery won't "stick"?

Do this:

- remount /system in read/write mode (use something like the Root Explorer app or ES File Explorer; both have root modes (check the app's settings) for remounting /system as writable)

- rename the /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak

(note: you could delete it, but renaming is much safer since its easily reversible)

- you could also do this manually in an adb shell or on-phone Terminal session:

+ mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak

Cheers!

Thanks Worm,

Reflashed from ROM Manager worked and now backing up my ROM so I can start trying new ones w00t!

Thanks s a,
will do this if it still has not "stuck"

Edit..... after I got the backup done tried to go in through bootloader and it started for a second then went to the red triangle again so I will now try to "make it stick"

Glad it's working for you.

Also, I would suggest not using ROM Manager to flash ROMs, etc. It is known to cause small issues sometimes which can easily be averted by flashing things manually from recovery.

I wouldn't even use it to make backups, but that's just me

Yeah, you should be able to flash it one more time and then take care of the recovery-from-boot.p file.

That file is checked by a script on shutdown to determine whether or not the stock recovery should be re-flashed or not.

Good luck! :)

ok so I renamed it through Root Explorer to the -bat, but still get the red triangle when I try to get to recovery through the bootloader.

what should I try next????

BTW....seem to be able to do everything through ROM Manager, but like you guys said I would rather not.

If you renamed the .p file to .p-bak as suggest then just flash CWM once more to see if it will stick. Also the reboot in recovery option within rom manager should get you to CWM recovery as well without changing your recovery back to stock
