Verizon Pulls DX Replacements

Knewz

If you have a warranty issue with your phone, and you plan on going into a Verizon store to have it replaced, you might be disappointed. All replacement DXs with the 2.3.340 s/w have been removed from inventory/warehouses until they release fix for the bug that causes the phones to crash/auto reset. What can you do in the mean time? ........ Ask for a Fascinate :D

About time Verizon stepped in and demanded a (more) dependable software. I have a mystery reset now(relatively rare...a total of 3) but it is a PIA when it happens. Never had it until .340. Never had it when others were complaining about it with the first 2.2 OTA.
Although I wouldn't think about getting a replacement. It's not that bad.

Samsung tab maybe. but a fascinate, hell no

Curious, How many people are still having software issues. I wonder if its really hardware related

Interesting note though if completely true.

*Update* Due to high demand of replacements needed, a few hundred(like 2) were put into nationwide stock. Get it while you can!

Have the tab and while it's ok for what I'm doing with it and testing for work, the built in l2tp pre-shared key does not work and neither Samsung or VZW have a clue on why it doesn't work. I have been on the phone way too long and same run around so blah.

Ok sorry for the rant and thread jack. :)

Fortunately, I have not experienced the bug the OP refers to. However, as soon as I upgraded, I rooted my DX then put on Fabolous ApeX 1.3 and my DX is just fine. Same goes for that strange SMS bug that some people have experienced. But that's Google's fault, not VZW.

the other DX on our plan has been having kittens since the update and a replacement was issued a couple weeks or so ago. Last night it locked up, again. It took a couple battery pulls to get it to boot up and run correctly again. I was thinking it was root and rom that phone too as mine running apex 1.3.1 has no issues. At least they now admit there is a problem. Think how good these phones could be if they would just ditch the security measures and make it wide open for our REAL phone engineers (DEVs) to work with.

My X has become a major pita! This thing is so buggy now that I regret getting it! I have tried swapping (same issues) and have done factory restores. Is a random reboot (2 or 3 times a week) acceptable? Also, after ending a phone call, the X freezes and won't hang up. Twice since Sunday and several times in the last month. I don't know if this is a DX issue or android, but I'm regretting switching from the iPhone 4. I know people will start throwing insults my way, but at least I had stability. Perhaps it is a trade off. I like what android is capable of, just not the implementation. Not to mention losing wifi connections daily and BT inexplicably turning off...

This is the first post I have read with so many problems. Are you getting new units when you exchange the phone? Is this happening with 0 apps installed? Do you live near power lines or in high humidity?

I'm new to Verizon. I switched from att (iphone4) because I liked what android could offer. So within the first 30 days, I swapped for new in box replacements. To be fair, it may just be that the DX and android are less stable than ios and iphones. But had I known there was this much difference, I would have stayed. As boring as ios is, at least it is reliable. No forceclosures, lagging, freezing up, lost connections etc.

Having issues with stock .340? Just root your DX and install a custom ROM of your choice. It is not that difficult and costs only $2. Best $2 I ever spent!! No more random reboots.

Couple things -

IOS isn't completely reliable. I used to get "force closes" (that is, the app just vanishing - it doesn't provide you an error message), some random reboots, the occasional frozen device (especially not waking up from sleep)... so bear in mind that personal experience comes into play. IOS isn't perfect.

That said, I don't know anyone having that many freeze-ups and have never experienced the problem hanging up calls, so it's not as simple as "Android isn't as reliable." Sounds like you have a buggy phone or a buggy app.

Not speaking for anyone but me. I'm only adding my 2 cents to this discussion. Glad I'm the rarity. Never said ios was perfect, only better (for me, that is)

Sure, I gotcha. And yep, iOS is better for some people. I don't get the whole fight where people try to prove that one is better than the other. They're just different, hitting different audiences.

My only point was that you shouldn't suffer these problems thinking that it's just something to accept using Android. Don't really know if you need to swap hardware again, or if it's an app you're using (you aren't using a task killer, are you?) - but it's not just "an Android thing."

Never used a task killer. Thx for ur reply though. Good thread

What's really the prob with unit? I think most units have to deal with a very bad wireless internet but more than that, batteries is an everyday problem.

Agreed, going to 1X will slow the phone to a crawl if one of the apps or processes is actively polling the net.

One thing I always recommend is to turn off the backup measures. They are basically useless. Get Appbrain instead and sync when you want to instead.

I have both iPhone and an X and have not seen any of these issues. I'm not sure what the issues are that you're having but with my X and people I know with their Xs they aren't seeing this either.

??
Hopefully it'll get figured out and you can start enjoying it.
