Verizon Pulls DX Replacements

Which is true? Really?

Yeah, really.

I have no quarrels with anyone coming in here that's having problems with the X. I lend advice and try to help out in any and every way I can (as my 'thanked' column would indicate). I do not however have much of a tollerance for trolls (those who like to kick up dust for their own amusement). And trust me, there have been plenty of them through here.

Your comparison of the DX to the iPhone seemed to indicate that the DX was your very first Android experience. So I take it you went from the Nexus 1, to the iPhone and then to the DX? As the Nexus 1 just came out last year, that would suggest you didn't spend a whole lot of time on the iPhone. Which would indicate that you liked Android better than the Apple iOS... no?

Don't worry, I've had my own problems with this device. I've found that taking blur out of the equation (via custom ROMs) is the best medicine. But that's me. Oh, and I was accused of being a troll plenty when I first arrived here because I still had much respect for my former brand (Blackberry) and wasn't afraid to say it. So naturally, back then, everyone thought I was just here to stir up trouble.

Don't take it personally. All I asked for was clarification. Not a big deal... unless you really were a troll! ;)

FWIW... Had iPhone in 2007, upgraded to 3g in 2008, upgraded to 3gs in 2009, then ip4 in 2010. When the Nexus was introduced, I bought one to try out as well.

Not a troll. Have better things to do than kick up controversy. I am merely adding my thoughts and seeing if I'm a lone voice (hopefully NOT a lone voice in a DX echo chamber. Apple has plenty of their own fanboy sights where Apple can do no wrong. Hoping that's not the case here)

BTW, got a few of my own "THANKS" myself ;)

So then have you tried rooting your DX, cutting out some of the bloat, and/or installing a custom ROM? I was SOOOO scared to install a ROM for the longest time. I rooted fairly early, but still never ROMed until last month. Man I have no idea what the hell took me so long.

Get into ROMs, it changes the DX like nothing else. Stock, this phone does have problems (at least mine did). Should it? No. You're right in your comments that a device should work out of the box. Mind didn't. However I could tell this thing had potential so I stuck with it until I figured out the solution. And the solution is to ROM.

Running GummyJAR is a total transformation. This thing is sooooo smooth, fast, responsive, and best of all... STABLE! None of those annoying random reboots, no lock ups, no freeze ups... it just runs like it SHOULD right out of the box. I don't think you'll ever go back to the iPhone once you try out some different ROMs (don't just try GummyJAR, try Apex, Tranquility, Fission, Rubix... everyone seems to find their own favorite. So don't just try mine out, find out which is your favorite).

If you're not willing to root and ROM, then I agree, this device has problems. But I personally blame those problems on blur. With blur my phone is jittery, slow and unstable. Without blur it's the fastest freakin device I could ever dream of. It's not the DX's fault, it's a great device. I hold Verizon responsible for requiring Motorola include all the bloat they want on it and the blur skin Moto came up with to include all of it.

Yeah everything's diferent from phone to phone, and users, for example my wife's DX is Stock, non-rooted nothing, and her phone works prefect, very smooth, she hasn't complaint at all (which is awesome cuz she is very picky LOL ). It has been 2 or 3 weeks since she got it and no even a single reboot,

Now see, if mine had been like that I may never have even rooted it. There's no need to fix something that isn't broken. So if everything worked smooth like that I probably would have been content as well.

But mine certainly needed fixed. I would agree with anyone that says these devices should be more consistant from one to the next. I don't know why there is such a huge difference myself, I just know there is.

Which is why I thank God for the dev community. They know how to right those wronged DX's out there!

Well more DX's have been placed back into warehouse inventory, still no store stock replacements. From the additional info i have gathered (none of which verified), there will be an update release soon, predicted within the next 2 weeks(mgr gave me this predicition)

Well now that I have read everything, it seems I am not lonely with this issue. Never thought about it, but I for one had no issues until this last update. Phone died last night, woke up this morning turned it on, and it just does boot loop of "Droid", and "Eye". Called about 6:30 this morning and they sent me out a replacement should be here some time tomorrow. Went to the VZW store on my way home tonight, and he said there is nothing he can do, but order me a replacement. I did try this hard reset thing, (hold down the power and home keys while you put the battery in) and I got an exclamation point in a triangle with the Android bot next to it, but it wont move from that screen. This really blows, only proving to my buddy and my wife that the Inc was the way to go. I still disagree though. Maybe I should root when I get the new one, just to afraid I will brick it.

The only thing I know is that I better be getting a replacement DX tomorrow. Hopefully it does not have any issues.

I got my DX replacement.. looks new, no issues so far.. booted up but was almost like when you do a factory reset, it did not go through the typical initial set-up for the android phone.. good thing I backed up my apps

Based on feedback here I think I'm gonna ROM it. I don't use blur and I want it off my phone. Wish me luck.

Did you push the search key(magnifying glass) when you got to that screen?

I hope there is a fix coming because since moving to .340 I get pretty frequent restarts. Before that the phone gave me no problems at all.

Mike

I had the restarts at least once a day after getting 340, factory reset and formatted the SD card a week ago and not one reboot since. YMMV.

I just shot this off to Verizon. I wonder what kind of response I'll get???

I have a Droid X and loved it until the last software "upgrade" that was pushed to us. Since going to .340 my phone has experienced frequent, random restarts. I've heard on a few forums that this issue is being worked and I'm hoping that you can confirm this or help me in resolving the problem that I'm having. The phone was running great before the update and I hope to get it back to that level of operation. If not, I'm going to be rather disappointed.

Thanks,
Mike

please post your response after. I spoke with an official Verizon/Moto rep today and all he could tell me is these issues will be addressed in the upcoming update. He didn't have a date of when, which was disappointing

Never had a problem with my 4 month old non-rooted X. I did have GPS and call quality issues with the Fascinate I swapped it out for though.

Droid X with extended factory battery is bulky like a Russian woman...and solid as a rock.

Maybe or probably, I'm in the minority? I was one of the beta testers for the new software. Since it was installed, I have not had one single issue with the X. No reboots or lockups either.

Guess we are soon to find out if this rumor is valid. The other DX i was speaking of is getting another replacement and is due here this Thursday. Ill check to see what version it was shipped with and then we will know.

Id lean toward the theory of the problem being blur related or even app related or possibly a combination of the two. My phone didnt do stupid things when it was stock. Well, it would somewhat hang and not surf when on 3G at times but now crashing or rebooting. I use apex now and it runs flawless and much faster these days.

The replacement phone is up and running now. The software is the exact same as the failed phone, .340 and this phone came from the corporate level vs. store.

I've had reboots on my X off and on since I first bought it. Not enough of them to make me ask for a replacement, but they did occur. I started using ROMs and haven't had one since. I'm on Fission now.

My phone did a random reboot bright in early when I was trying to send a text message. I don't really know what my options are...soft&hard reboot do nothing for the problem. It's not vzw fault that google can't get their shit together.

Definitely not Googles problem. Once I removed blur from my phone the random reboots disappeared. So that removes both Android and the DX from the blame, leaving only blur to fault. And that's why IMO Google needs to get a lot more strict about what the OEM's can do with their software. Because when a company like Moto slaps blur on the device and it ****s up, it makes Google look bad.

BTW Ekyle, I never heard how you finally got root back?

Well said...I didn't know it was blur problem. It doesn't make just Google look bad, but makes Vzw look bad too. thanks for the info!

Guess I am one of the lucky ones, with a stock X, went through the update, and to this day, have yet to experience a random reboot.

I'd say there are probably WAY more lucky ones like you out there than there are unlucky ones like me out there. You could say this forum is a sort of 'Complaints Department' for the DX. When people have problems with their DX they usually jump online to complain about the difficulties they are having.

So, with hundreds of thousands of DX's sold around the world, I'd estimate I've seen a few hundred people AT THE MOST come on here, and other sites like 'Droid X Forums', 'Android Central', 'DroidLife', etc... and complain. That leaves a whole lot of 'lucky ones' who got their Droid X, had no problems with it, and went about their business.

The bottom line here is, being one of the lucky ones means you're in the vast majority of the DX owners club.
