Verizon released 4.3 update

Updated my wife's s3 last night. All I can say is stay away and don't do it. Lots of the same bugs reported here. She is not happy.

The only redeeming quality I see it the ability to customize the notification toggles. Outside of that, the update sucks.

We called a Verizon and complained about the buggyness of the update. The phone is getting exchanged with a new one in the box that doesn't have the 4.3 update.

Anyone notice the "Developer Options" missing from the menu? To get it back you have to go into "about phone" and tap build number 7 times. Dumb.

I took the OTA update. Just a little bit of annoyance.

3. Love the WiFi toggle, but now the Mobile Data toggle is hidden way down the list.

You can reorganize them however you want. Tap the symbol in the upper right hand corner of screen after you've pulled the notification area down. Then tap the pencil looking symbol 2nd to the right at the top. This will bring up a screen to add/remove/reorganize the toggles.

Also noticed that the message preview doesn't give you the option of status bar only. If you check the box, it previews the message both on the status bar and the lock screen. I wouldn't want messages popping up on the lock screen. If you uncheck the box you just get a little notification icon with no message preview.

This update also caused the status bar to go transparent and it takes on the color of the wallpaper. Made it difficult to see the icons.

What is this free hotspot that you speak of? I tried the mobile hotspot app on my S3 and I get a message that pops up and tells me I need to buy a monthly subscription to the hot spot service.

My work around is FoxFi from the play store.
the app is called 'Mobile Hotspot' and works beautifully. Not too fast, but it get there at the speed of your phone connection. Free, but only on VZ.

Never worked on my GS3 from Verizon. Get a message that says I must subsscribe.

FoxFi works though.

I haven't received a notification that an update is available yet but I think I will delay it just like the last one to see how it shakes out.

You don't have to wait for the notification. Settings>about phone>software update

Yeah I know about that way but it's always just come up before on unlock and said there is an update available and gives the option to defer.

Just yodated to 4.3 today. I didn't notice a big change except there isn't quick access to the camera as before. I looked at the motion settings and camera settings and haven't found a way to turn it on. Was this feature that was removed?

I mistakenly downloaded the Verizon update but have not installed it. I've heard it knocks out Foxfi which I have because I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. My question is, if I do a factory reset before this update is forced to install, will it delete the download?

The battery drain after the update is horrible.

This is the main reason why i'm waiting to update. Currently, I get a full day no problem. I've been burned by updates on other phones in the past regarding battery life. Are there other people experiencing bad battery life as well?

Anyone know how to prevent the OTA notifying me that there is an update and asking me to install it?

I want nothing to do with the 4.3 update after I saw what it did to my wife's S3.

i woke up this morning and saw a notification that the update had been cancelled but i didn't initiate the upgrade. now i'm scared i'll get it and after hearing how 4.3 is hit or miss (mostly miss from what i've read here) i do not want it!

I did a hard reset on my phone. Home Button/Power Button/Volume Up Button.

Wiped the cache. Factory Reset.

After I did this, the notification to update has gone away and hasn't come back now.

Did the same on my wifes phone and it worked. 4.3 update sucks so bad, I'm not taking it.

Well, I had no idea the update was out but from what Im reading Ill hold out. I also never received a notification. Every other update I would get a popup, not this time. Hummmmm.

Could anyone confirm who has done the update check and see if "Hotspot Toggle" works as a hotspot still? This is an app in the market. This has worked so much better then any other hotspot app I've come across. BTW I am still on unlimited plan. I wonder if those of use that still are on unlimited have been targeted in some way…

Also would like to confirm if the lock screen shortcut for the camera has for sure been removed as mentioned above. I use this all the time.

I read on another forum where, after updating to 4.3 (Verizon S3), the free Hotspot was gone. Can someone confirm this? Gosh, I hope not.

Thanks.

Yep no more free hot spot an any carrier S3 or S4 running 4.3 it forces you to purchase from Verizon till somebody figures out what the 4.3 update did to stop the free hot spot

Just to make it clear for people outside the US, the update doesnt necessarily remove hotspot function. My neice in UK still has the stock hotspot function.
If its been removed then its your carrier who has done that, not samsung

I haven't been able to get the lock screen camera shortcut to work.

Is this then one where you hold your thumb on the screen and turn it 90 degrees? I think that's gonna. I've tried it many times then noticed the option for it is gone in settings. Or are you talking about something else?

I'd rather just have the phone be back to ics. It was much better. Even simple things like when you got a message on the S3 you could easily open it from the lock screen. Now it shows the message and you have to click it and then swipe the bottom. And on my lock screen I can't swipe down my notification bar and go to my Facebook notifications anymore automatically. I click it and then it takes me back to the lock screen and then I have to unlock again. These updates suck.

Yes. I was talking about the one where you press your thumb and turn it 90
