Very new to all of this... came over from iphone on day 1 with GN... just rooted and installed b34 (btw, this makes me happy I left iphone)... Now, when I wipe/install this update, I'll have to redo everything again right (installing apps, settings, general setups stuff)?
Any way to restore settings and things when you update? I know some people are right on all updates, I can't imagine that you're doing all of this every time, or, maybe you have done it so much that you don't even notice. I am still thinking of stuff that I had previously that I haven't set up since flashing b34 yet.
On another note, absolutely loving b34, may stick for a bit. battery life has been excellent, overall very snappy.
Orlando bull,
That's why I asked the question I did about dirty flashing. If you are able to dirty flash a ROM, usually only going from non-significant version of the SAME ROM, then you do not lose everything. So for instance, some dirty flashed from B33 to B34, so all they had to do was re-flash gapps, and they didn't lose everything else.
Now going from a significant change, say from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 we needed to do a complete wipe, which meant you lost everything. You could do things to make the setup process a bit easier. For instance, using Titanium Backup to backup your apps, using SMS backup to backup all your sms messages, etc... This should cut down on the set-up time.
And just so you know a dirty flash (in CWM) is:
1) Wipe Cache
2) Under Mounts: format system
3) Under Advance: Format Dalvik Cache
4) Flash ROM
5) Flash Gapps
6) Reboot
7) Reboot back into CWM and flash any kernels, MODS, etc...
At least that is how I do it, based on the great feedback from this forum.
Hope that wasn't too long-winded of an answer...
EDIT: As for mods, make sure the Theme or MOD that you want is compatible for the version you are on, for instance M5. And I would make a nandroid of a fresh install prior to installing mods/themes etc... Just my two cents...
