[Verizon] ROM/Kernel/Radio/Phone performance comparison: post your specs!

Idunno

Android Enthusiast
Hey everyone, since 4.0.4 is rolling out in full force it seems and we have a few ROMs and Kernels to choose from... I just thought it would be nice to have a basic thread where people can post a short description of their current setup along with a quadrant score and how the phone feels. This way it can be sort of a quick reference to see how you compare to rest of crowd and maybe give you some ideas, as well as track how well the latest updates to your favorite rom/radio/kernel are working for other people.

Remember - new setup means new post... don't just edit your old one! I want this to be a running log of quadrant/user scores as different pieces of software are updated and tested.

I was thinking replies would go something like this:

Android version / Build number: 4.0.4 / IMM76K
ROM: Stock
Launcher: Nova Prime (good idea NSutherl)
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: Franco M4
CPU max-min: 1.34 ghz - 384 mhz (added min, thx jbdan)
GPU clock: (figured I would add it for the sake of completeness)
Governor: ondemand
Quadrant score: 3242
Overall (user) score: 9 / 10 - Very happy, but there's always room for improvement.
Battery life: Good - 6.75 hours w/ heavy use, 24 hours w/ light use
Look/Feel: Good, snappy, fast, new, responsive. <3 ICS
Problems: A dropped call here and there, nothing crazy... maybe 1 or 2 a day.
Other: (put anything else you feel is worthy of mention here)

Lets see what we get!

I haven't run a benchmark on a phone since 2010 on the Incredible :p

Fun watching how much faster it tore through quadrant compared to my Inc.

1. 4.0.4 latest
2. AOKP B37
3. FC04/05 radio
4. Franco M4
5. CPU OC: 384-1036MHz interactive
6. Quadrant: 2613 (3325 with 1344MHz perf gov)
7. User score: I love it
8. Battery life: excellent
9. Look/feel: I love it
10. Problems: initially on stock 4.0.2 the external speaker volume was too low

I feel very fortunate to be in the group that has had no problems with the GN. And Ics? It's wonderful!

Seems like fun haha.

Android version / Build number: 4.0.4
ROM: AOKP M5
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: LeanKernel 3.8.0
CPU max: 1.2 ghz
Governor: Interactive
Quadrant score: 2631 (Never did like benchmarks)
Overall (user) score: 9/10
Battery life: I average 14 to 18 hours (depending on usage) on a single charge with extended battery (which is plenty for me)
Look/Feel: Amazing experience, only complaint is the slight lag with the multitask button.
Problems: Again, the lag in multitask button

1. Version: 4.0.4 IMM76K
2. ROM: AOKP B37
2.1 Launcher: Nova
3. Radio: FC04/05
4. Kernel: LeanKernel 3.7.0
5. CPU Max: 1200MHz (Balanced power mode)
6. Governor: Interactivex
7. Quadrant: 2602 (Balanced power mode)
8. User score: 9/10 The only things I haven't liked have been my own doing (ROM's, themes, mods, etc...)
9. Battery life: Really good. I'm near a charger all day at work, but I never plug it in, just because I can :) I regularly get 15+ hours of battery life with about 1.5 hours of screen-on time.
10. Look/feel: I love the stock look, which is why I use AOKP. So snappy, and virtually no lag evident throughout the entire UI.
11. Problems: Like bassdelux, the only problem I have is a slight lag with the recent apps button. Other than that, I feel to lucky to say that there are no problems to report. Every once in a while, I'll flash a mod that isn't compatible or that I don't like, but a NANDroid restore always takes me back to a happy place :)

Android version: 4.0.4
ROM: AOKP B37
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: Franco M4
CPU max: 1.3 ghz
Governor: Interactive
Quadrant score: 3692 (high score ^_^)
Overall (user) score: 10/10
Battery life: 14-15.5 hours, not exact as when im home i have it connected until i have to leave
Look/Feel: ICS is beautiful, but ive come across a sense 4 theme and am now in love with it! Sense 4
as for the AOKP itself, really smooth, almost on par with IOS. it is my daily Driver.
Problems: Volume Button does not work on in messenging app. and signal is still Horrible -_-

i just want one that runs cool and not make my phone so dang hot...

Well watch this thread and see what people say about the different setups on their phones. As for your phone getting hot... my phone doesn't as it is right now, warm after long conversations or lots of abuse but not hot.

Android version: 4.0.4

Screen on time: 3-5hrs (depending on stock vs. extended battery)
Look/Feel: ICS w/amazing tweaks! It is what Android should be!
Problems: None
Other: I use LeanTweaks!

Latest setup 6/10/12-

Android version / Build number: 4.0.4 / IMM76K
ROM: Eclipse v1.6.4
Launcher: Nova Prime
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: leanKernel v3.0.8exp5 (1650-230)
CPU max-min: 1.65 ghz - 350 mhz
GPU: 387 mhz, (512 was unstable and wouldn't boot) averages 45+ (up to 60) FPS
Governor: hotplugx
Quadrant score: 3541
Overall (user) score: 9 / 10 - Very happy, a few minor improvements could be made
Battery life: Great... loses 1%/hour on standby, ~7%/hour with moderate use.
Look/Feel: Amazing, smooth as can be, no hangs or snags. Its ICS and then some.
Problems: Weird issue DL'ing from market, restoring apps at first boot worked, DL'ing individual apps doesn't.
Other: Also trying out new TWRP 2.1.2 recovery... loving it. I just hope the eclipse team gets the market thing fixed, I can always live w/o a market and just DL apps through the browser but still, it would be nice to have a fully functioning market. NOTE ON HOTPLUG: Works fine for me, no issues or sleep of death with current settings ^^.

6/21/12 setup

Android version / Build number: 4.0.4 / IMM76L
ROM: AOKP B39
Launcher: Nova
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: Franco Nightly #r191
CPU: Min 192mhz Max 1228mhz
GPU: 384 mhz
Governor: Interactive
Quadrant score: 3430
Antutu score: 6339
HTML5test.com Browser score: 371/500 points
MS test drive speed reading: 60 FPS
MS test drive fish bowl: 37 FPS
MS test drive space photo: 31 FPS
Other: Force GPU, Background process set to 3, rootswiki build.prop mod to disable checkjni and 240fps tweak.
Battery life: (extended batt) OK... loses 1%/hour on standby, >10%/hour with use. Considerable -1250+ ma draw under full use. Brightness set to half.
Look/Feel: Super fast, no lag.

Complaints: wish this phone didnt use so much ma under normal use....which i know this cant be helped much since thats the actual CPU voltages for the cores at that speed...
but thats huge draw compared to my old devices (EVO will draw ~ -500ma tops and so does my captivate both)

Id love to find a kernel that has good battery and low heat production but i can seem to find one. Im on aokp build 38 and cant find anything good seems like, probably because it bothers me to have my phone heat up so quick under light use and light browsing...oh and i get idle drain when im on 4g like crazy seems like....

any suggestions, ive use franco M3, M4, LK 3.8 and 3.9

Interesting, I can't decide between the latest franco and LK as far as performance.

As far as battery life, for me on the latest exp. LK my idle drain with full 4G is -2ma... so essentially nothing. Must be something with your phone that's running in the background causing increased draw. The heat issue, meh. Maybe I just don't notice it because I have a really thick insulated trident case, but overall I wouldn't say my phone gets excessively hot.

well let me try the LK exp4 and see how it goes...

any special tweaks u suggest or just OC and go?

don't be afraid of hotplugx as your governor, its super fast and responsive just like ondemand, but has the added benefit of turning one of the cores off when it isn't needed (ie: screen off, low system use). Also my wifi scan is set to 5 mins instead of 2, data/BT/wifi/GPS are always enabled.

Re ran my results on the newest AOKP B40 (6/25/2012)

6. Benchmark Scores - Quadrant: 3220. AnTuTu: 5938
7. User score: 9/10. As stated earlier, there is always room for improvement.
8. Battery life: TBD. Just switched to this test build from 1.2.11. Still not sure how you guys are getting 3-5 hours screen on time. Most I've ever had is around 2.5 hours. I use the 2200 mAh extended battery as well.
9. Look/feel: I'm loving the look. I randomly switch between System, Mint and Vampire red themes. Extremely snappy and smooth like butter.
10. Problems: Not sure yet...just switched over to the new build. No complaints thus far. I was having some MMS notification hiccups on 1.2.11 though.

Hey Jmar,

How do you get 1 full day of battery?

Android version / Build number: 4.0.4
ROM: Liquid 1.5 (current) Yoshimi and Slim are my other favs.
Launcher: Apex
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: Franco Linaro #196, 5%OC (I switch kernels all the time)
CPU max-min: 384 - 1420
GPU clock: 512
Governor: Interactive
Quadrant score: 4050 (had to install to run..)
Overall (user) : 9/10
Battery life: Decent, gets me through a full day
Look/Feel: Smooth, fast
Problems: Not really a problem, besides the radios not being quite as strong as my TBolt.

Android version: 4.1
ROM: Vicious JellyBean V2
Launcher: Nova Prime
Radios: FC04 / FC05
Kernel: Franco 3.0.31 - 384GPU

GPU clock: 384
Governor: Ondemand
Quadrant score: 3889
Overall (user) : 9/10 - always room for improvement
Battery life: Haven't noticed a remarkable gain/drop in battery life. Still very good.
Look/Feel: As smooth and fast as ever. No hangs, snags.
Problems: Haven't noticed anything major, I get a weird error when trying to DL from the market every now and then but that's no biggie. JB FTW
