Root [Verizon] Starting Root - Some questions and maybe more soon

I actually just did a second backup to the external, lol...will copy to computer now.
Nandroid backups can sometimes be large and take up quite a bit of room.
That's why personally, I backup to external, and also keep a copy on the computer just in case my sd card poops out.
You can store one on internal, but if you run low on internal space you can always move the backup.

Will do. I just copied it from Card to computer. and It is actually under clockworkmod>Backup which is good. So what is next, re-flash the CleanROM or?

before or after I re-flash?

Right now what i have done is make the new nandroid and copied it from SDcard to computer. I have signed into the google account on my current wiped CleanROM which is what I still have right now.

EDIT: yes I also signed into the play store and I do see my purchased apps now. Do I reflash at this point? or re-wipe first?

If you are signed in, and have a clean slate on CleanRom, you can start to set it up now.
No need to reflash or anything.
If you wish to start restoring your apps and/or data, just download TB from the play store.
Did I understand you correctly?

Well I never re-flashed at any time, and I thought you said at some point to do that. From when I was having problems with the Rom I thought you said to reflash. I had wiped data and caches in order to do so, but that's as far as I am at right now.

I kind of understand how I am ready to set up at the moment but should I not reflash?

Once again I never reflashed up to this point

Well, are you having issues right now? If you wiped both caches and did a factory reset before, and now you are signed into gmail/play store, you should be good to go.
No need to reflash if you factory reset/cache wipe.:) Unless something is acting really wonky.

Are your contacts sync'd?

If that is not a good sign, I should have my contacts backed up on the SD card if you have a way to get them off there somehow

Nope I still have no contacts right now
I thought you had your contacts on your google account? In your gmail?
2 things...are you viewing the contacts on your phone memory or your google account?
Have you manually sync'ed your account?

If you have them backed up to your sd card, you can import them, but lets see if we can sync your contacts that are stored on your google account to the phone first.

I just manually synced google account with no contacts appearing still...maybe for some reason I didn't successfully back them up to the google account in the first place?

When you log into your gmail from your computer, I assume you have contacts in there correct?
Now, go into your contacts on your phone, and press menu, then "contacts to display", then choose "your gmail account" account to view.

Not sure how to check for contacts from the computer, as I never actually use my gmail account. From what I can see I don't have the contacts on the computer either but I'm not sure where to look.

contacts to view>gmail still results in no contacts.

o.k..well, for future reference, always backup your contacts in gmail!

Well, I'm a little worried now that since your nandroid was lost before somehow, that your contacts that you saved on your sd card are lost.
Hopefully not.
Go into your contacts on your phone, hit menu, then select import from sd card.

WOO yay that worked, all contacts are back on now! But if I had lost them, wouldn't have been a huge deal lol, I'm a high school student, numbers of my close friends are pretty easy to get back luckily :D

Whew! NICE!!
Now, just do yourself a favor, and at least use gmail to backup your contacts....it's so much easier just because if you happened to lose them on the sd card, you would be screwed. Well, maybe not you, since you don't have alot of them, but for someone like me, I have over 200 contacts.

Ouch!

Well I think everything is good now except my wifi password but the only one I had saved was my home one and I can just type that one back in.

I am going to play around with the Rom a ton and get it the way I like it (homescreens are completely blank now, etc) and see if it is acting better than it did earlier :D

First things I notice are that during setup I enabled some bloat apps that weren't what I thought they were and turns out I don't need them. is there a way to delete them without re-doing the setup?

I would use Titanium Backup to freeze the app before deletion.
Some apps are dependent on others to work.
If, after freezing the app, the phone and all other apps work fine, then backup the frozen app (for just-in-case), then delete it. All those actions are done in TB.
Or, I believe you can disable them in the rom via menu/manage applications

Awesome, I will try that. Do you use the "AdFree" app? wasn't quite sure what that was. I also was thinking of deleting Allshareplay since I've never used it and don't think I have a use for it, as well as google talk.

Awesome, great link thanks :D got rid of media player and google talk :D . Some other weird ones like voice recorder I will never use but I think I am pretty cleared out for useless apps now :).

So something that is interesting to me is the mobile hotspot...am I now allowed to use this without extra billing costs? and If so, when I do that, does the other device accessing internet via my hotspot equal the same data calculation as if it was me doing it on my phone? Like, counting towards the 2GB plan that I have? Obviously I wouldn't be using this feature much with a small plan like I have but in some cases it could prove useful

Well, as far as the hotspot goes, I don't have a good answer, as I do not use it at all. :( Sorry.
But perhaps Jhawk or Liamo will chime in if they see this:)

If you are on a limited data plan, there should be no issue with you tethering. This rom has probably removed the data plan checker so you should be all set to use it. On an unlimited data plan, then things trek into the gray area.

Ok cool, I look forward to trying it out then, to see how it works.

I think I have everything running back to normal now. I will probably find things here and there tomorrow as I use the phone normally that I have to fix back up but other than that it's goin' pretty good now!

This thread has gone on quite a long way and you guys sure helped a lot, so thanks a ton!

I guess all my future questions can probably justify a new thread :D
