Verizon to allow full Skype over 3G

I would be excited but most of my calls are to VZW customers so I don't think this will affect me much in the end.

But as for "openness" this is a huge win. Hopefully tethering without paying extra is next. (Without having to do something shady, that is).

Sadly, I won't really benefit from it either. When I saw this I thought 'great, I can reduce my minutes!', but alas, I really can't. So far only 2 of my 5 lines could use it and neither makes enough calls to justify a reduction. The other 3 lines, even if was available on their phones, would never be able to figure it out or they just wouldn't use it. Sigh.
It is a huge win though, Verizon is full of pleasant surprises lately. It's no secret they are after the data money now and this is the perfect way to sign folks up!

They can not afford to do free tethering because of the strain on the network. At some point they do need to make money lol and need it to continue to improve their already great network to allow for things like this, skype calling I mean which is amazing!!!

Never used skype before, Can I still have outgoing caller ID show my google voice number, and have a skype number added to my google voice account, so all incoming calls to my google voice number can be forwarded to skype?

Bah I was just coming here to report this :p

Now sprint needs to follow suit so my gf and I can not waste our families' respective minutes

how do they know how they say its only fro VZW if the iphone already has an app for skype, a friend just showed it to me here at work

Because the iphone app only uses wifi for calls and can not use 3g because AT&T has a sucky 3g network lol. I know the iphone owners can't stand to have something beat their precious phone but verizon just did!

While this would be great having it fully supported by the network, it still comes down to getting people you know to et this app as well and/or the app on their PC. The article says they're offering skype-to-skype, which leads me to believe it's only unlimited through the software, not actual "phone" calls.

Either way, it really doesn't help me much as I don't know anyone who uses skype. I wish Verizon would just give us AnyMobile like Sprint. Then I would be happy.

This would be awesome, because my best friend lives in Switzerland, but I really don't call people on my phone that often. Most of my phone calls last about 60 seconds, and it's just me asking a person where they are or vice versa. I use my phone to stay connected to the world more than I do to call people in that world.

This is awesome, I make calls to Europe alot using Skype, but am always tied to the PC. This would mean being able to make calls anywhere.

AWESOME>>>>>

This is great for many, but in some situations, the iphone still does have us beat. I travel to canada a lot where I have to keep it in airplane mode or I will get charged boatloads for downloading my e-mail and receiving calls. I use the wifi to chat via google chat and use my email. My coworkers use skype all the time up there because they can use wifi. So even with this announcement, I can already see my Iphone co-workers talking about how theirs is better. It's a shame they didn't make it so that you could use wifi if you wanted.
