[Verizon] When "To" and "Not To" Be USB Connected?

gapi

I have often wondered about but and never seen any info on times or scenarios of when one should or should not be USB connected when flashing or doing anything else for that matter?

Are there any times when its especially bad to be connected?

gapi,

Do you mean when do you need to have the USB debugging enabled?

That setting only comes into play when you are doing something with adb.

Lemme know if that was your question or not.

Cheers! :)

My question is, as a noober I often wondered if there was ANYTIME one should not be connected via USB, debugging or not while performing any function on the device.

I have a nice charging cradle stand and like to do it all while mounted. I think I have done most if not all my functions while plugged in and debugged but needed to ask if there is a risk.

Well, insofar that being connected via USB or charger helps you maintain a good charge on your phone (and having a fully-charged battery is always a good thing when doing root, custom recovery, or fastboot/bootloader operations), it really isn't operationally necessary except when you are actually communicating with your device over the USB cable.

Cheers!

OK, looks like it does not make a difference. Good!
Because all during my learning experience I have often been in the throws of the different processes and seen I was wired up and wondered "Geesh, should I have disconnected first, or after that, or...?" Heh! I think it was the connect/disconnect Bonk! sound file going off and on making me wonder too.

I generally prefer to disconnect when running a nandroid or flashing a rom through recovery. I don't really have any scientific reason for it however so I'm not necessarily recommending it as "best practice". I just don't like the idea of the phone having to process the act of mounting or unmounting (as a device) during critical processes.
