Hey guys, managed to s-off my device using revolutionary, amonra is my recovery

I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 and it was working fine, i then downloaded google apps, flashed that from recovery and booted the phone up, since then my phone boots up cyanogenmod, shows me the 'touch android to continue' screen and then goes back to the skateboard animation

Ive tried clearing all cache/data etc etc and reinstalling cyanogenmod, it wont work :( :( just goes back to the same thing

i havent a nandroid backup either :(

im trying to install the original ruu and it stops at 59%, my boot page now shows just RUU, theres no fastboot or anything and i cant get the phone on at all

The ruu gives me the error 110 FILE OPEN ERROR 'THE ROM UPDATE UTILITY CANNOT OPEN THE REQUESTED FILES OR THE FILES ARE DAMAGED'

slow the hell down, sort your head out mate, you cant just flash stuff and change stuff without knowing what you are doing.

before installing 7.1 did you flash a modified hboot? for example did you flash the cm7 r2 hboot? if you did, flashing a ruu over a size that is not acceptable for stock RUU can have catastrophic consequences and i aint joking either.
if it only shows RUU then you wont be able to flash the hboot downgrader to take it to a normal hboot and therefore you cannot flash an RUU as you are on the cm7 hboot

are you sure you cannot boot to fastboot? (back+power)

what you should have done is booted to recovery (voldown+power) then wiped device and flashed another custom rom like teppics stock sense rom to get it into working order.
I would imagine you flashed the older gapps that cm7.1 doesnt support.
your lack of patience has potentially bricked your device permanently

can you answer my questions tho

after using revolutionary to s-off your device, did you flash another hboot size?

does that make a difference like?

well slightly, it means it wasnt the hboot as you are using stock sizes.
its a problem if you flashed the cm7 hboot via fastboot or android flasher as an RUU wont fit into those sizes.

it means either the RUU was bad or your usb port cannot take the data being pushed through it

download the gingerbread RUU from here HTCdev - HTC Kernel Source Code and Binaries
its in the top link. you will find the RUU in the zip file

plug the device into one of your "rear" usb ports and run it again

this should hopefully bring it back and then you can flash the recovery again as your hboot should stay

if this doesnt work then you have a brick

RUU is always last resort

thank you, is this the only place to get the 'gingerbread ruu'? its downloading at 2kbps

thank you so much mate, its worked thank god haha

i dont think im going to root again, well i might do

everything was fine until i installed google apps?

glad that worked

like i said it was probably the wrong gapps. theres a few
you shouldnt have to worry too much about the root proceedure as the revolutionary hboot is protected and shouldnt be overwritten by RUU unless you flash the hboot downgrader

if you boot to hboot you should find it still says "revolutionary" at the top
this is a good thing as it means you can just flash recovery from fastboot and then you can flash a custom rom again.
If i were you i would do the following

read our fastboot faq
download amonRA 2.0.1 from our root tools (link on my sig from post above: there is a password for the site, its on the 2nd page)
fastboot flash the recovery
make a nandroid backup of the rom in its current state before flashing another rom.

come back to me when that is done and ill best guide you on how to deal with custom roms etc. we're nice here

Thanks man appreciate it.

Erm i cant boot into hboot anymore, it just turns my phone on? i have android 2.3.3 now is it different buttons to get into hboot? i did power and volume down thats what worked before

Settings>power>fastboot (untick)

thanks man youz are brilliant on here lol, now to root again

i have 2.3.3 installed

im going to unrevoked 3 it, using amon ra recovery, ill try installing gingervillian from sd card with s on before i use revolutionary it, and then i need to flash google apps, but if i make a nandroid backup before i can just revert?

Wait donnt unrevoke it, it doesnt work with htc 2.3.3 build.
However of you boot to hboot now you should see revolutionary at the top as it should keep s-off even when you ruu.

This means you only need to fastbootflash amonra or use android flasher

not to be stupid but how do i flash one of them? i press fastboot and it just says bootloader restart bootloader or power down? yes it says s off still so does that mean im rooted still?

read the adb and fastboot faq in my signature. SKIP the adb stuff as it is IRRELEVANT. Just read the FASTBOOT stuff.

thanks, is there no need to root at all then? just run fastboot then install rom from sd card and then update radios by flashing them?

s-off means you have a hboot that can flash recovery

what you need to do is boot to fastboot (back+power)
then connect device to computer
use cmd window
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img

read the fastboot faq and it will make sense to you

i did mention this a bit of the way up

i understand this bit yeh, im just confused that according to my google search gingerbread cant be rooted so i dont understand how i can flash a custom rom without rooting the phone lol? its all a bit confusing to me even after all the reading, sorry for all the questions

forget google search.
flashing a custom rom is a by product of rooting a phone. rooting a phone is simply giving you super user access.
flashing a custom rom is nothing to do with root and everything to do with recovery.
2.3.3 is normally rooted using revolutionary however it doesnt root it. it s-offs, gives you an option to flash CWM recovery and then you can flash a rom of choice or flash the SU zip file to root the current rom

in your case you do not need to use revolutionary as the hboot part is already done
so all you need to do is flash a custom recovery like amonRA or cwm (i recommend amonRA 2.01) and then you can backup your rom and flash a new rooted rom like cm7 or anything else you fancy.

please use our guides for help. do not use google as there is a lot of stuff out that there is inaccurate or old information
