Root [VIDEO] 10min Root complete Guide

I tried that minus buying a new card but it didn't work. So I guess if they don't come out with a new way soon I have to try buying a different one.

I do know that people have been able to root with 2GB Sandisk that came with the phone BUT it's rare.

Believe me, I too have the 2GB Sandisk and reformated using my own steps and IT DID NOT WORK.

But, it works on the PNY card, mentioned in the above post. DO NOT USE THE microSD to SD adapter to use to FULL FORMAT (Why? Cuz when I did that, my PNY card stopped working with ADB rooting. It was strange & I can't explain. Just don't do it. Plug the PNY card into your phone and do FULL FORMAT, FAT32->FAT, than from FAT to FAT32. You need to full format a few times (3-5 times) from different FILE SYSTEM in order to get it to work.:)

so if we need the drivers, which is why i am assuming mine isn't working, how do we download them. how do you download a package? when installing the sdk i get the error like in the vid, where do i go from there?

Please read my post, above. It's like 4 or 5 post above this one that you posted.

You DO NOT need Android 1.0 driver. (The part where it check the SD card with green text and disappears). But you'll need drivers if you see something about Unknown device - ADB. You can get this driver from the SDK Setup.

When you download the drivers from there, a new folder will automatically be created for you; called "usb_driver" and in that folder you should see 6 files.

i cant get it either, when i do the loop.bat part it just says daemon still not running

Did you download the file from the 10mins rooting video in this thread?

You click on the video itself, it'll send you to a YouTube page and the link is posted there, below the video. OR HERE.

It's best to watch the video to understand how it works.

lets pretend I finally got into the shell and performed all the steps, but rebooted before I removed/renamed the apps I wanted to get rid of... So I understand I have to get back into shell while in recovery mode - but do I have to repeat all the steps from square one?

Also, did the OP's zip file contain the current "payload-update.zip" from public:adb_in_recovery [RootWiki] ??

Let us say that after the rooting, I booted into my phone and played with tethering for a bit. Afterward, I realize I forgot to remove CityID, so I went into the recovery, re-did the step that says "Select update.zip" and after I was able to type 'su', I just removed CityID. And it worked without having to re-root.

So I rooted Sunday. Unrooted today just to get some apps back that I deleted. Now when I try to run "1.bat" I get permission denied! Any clue why???

I would delete all the rooting files from your PC and start over again. I got that once when I tried to perform a re-root cuz I wanted to remove CityID. But I did all the steps over again and it went away.

Same thing for me. Is it Ok to move on? Do I have to see something about the daemon? All I get is "error: device not found".

You would normally get * daemon started successfully * if you are starting adb shell for the first time or if you had restarted your.

If it just say "error: device not found", go to Windows task manager, choose the "Processes" tab and you should see "adb.exe *32"; which means adb shell is running. You can end the "adb.exe *32" process and start over by going into CMD and tying adb shell, once you get to your "tools" folder.

This may be a silly question, but do you have to keep the SD card that you use for rooting in the phone or can I use my old one? Used that 2GB from Wal-Mart, but I have my regular 8GB that want to keep.

NOPE! I didn't. I got root so now, I plan on returning my 2GB PNY from Wal-mart. No use now. :-) I'm using the 2GB Sandisk now and it works fine.

Unless of course, you like the 2GB card over the 8GB card :-P

i tried many many many times, I can never get adb to find my phone, I tried every single possible way, I tried on windows xp, windows vista 64bits and windows 7 64bits and no go :-(

I suggest you go to Wal-mart, pick up the 2GB PNY card. And follow the video and see my instructions too. It's posted a few post up from this one in page 3 with the RED colored text.

Im not sure why I need to do this (rooting)
can someone talk me into it?

Well... Rooting gives you Super User privileges. And you may want it for Wi-Fi tethering, CPU over clocking, custom ROMs for Android, or simply for the purpose of removing shitty programs like CityID, Teet, etc.

I get up to the payload update part but when the recovery loads it doesn't say anything about unrevoked anywhere. Are these the right files or am I doing something wrong?

Set up wireless tethering, connected to my 3G thru my ipad, it's gonna be killer on vacations!

Any help on this would be great I rooted and had Wifi Tethering working on my laptop but I can't seem to get my iPad to connect. It sees AndroidTether and connects but does not seem to grab an IP. Am I missing a step here?

Thanks

This happened to me a couple times. I noticed at the top in the notification bar... it shows either a yellow or red shield. Slide down and click on the notification. This shows more info about your connection and gives you an option to allow it.

can anyone help?
when i type in this command
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
i get permission denied can anyone tell me what to do?

stupid question here
how do I move the files from one place to another?
I tried click and drag no go
and what does he mean (put it on the root) of the sd card.

the root of the sd card is just the sd card, or in other words not in any of the sub-folders

hey bit the bullet and rooted in under thirty minutes after reading and instructions and watching this video. yay:D

How did you guys do this on a Mac? I'm assuming you didn't use bootcamp and instead used VMWare or Parallels?

Also, what are some of the ROMs available? I thought I saw someone post that Froyo is out?

Can anyone comment on how much faster Froyo is?

Thanks.

As of now the root is fairly new, so there are no cooked roms yet for the incredible. Froyo is indeed out on other android devices but not on a rooted incredible yet as far as I know.

Sure, i'll do the best I can. I had the same issue at first! my settings are like this: Turn on 3G on your phone and open wireless tether, start it,
-menu > setup > enable wifi encryption.
-encryption setup method > auto.
-change passphrase into a new password.
-change SSID into something else.
-change channel was at 6 by default.
-enable access control.
connect to your 3G using your ipad and your phone should pop up with a shield notification, authorize it and it should be smooth sailing from there! :D

I have been watching this thread few a for days now and thought it was time to give it a try. But now the link is dead or the server is down....

the loop.bat method worked for me. Tried it with three different cards and worked with all the cards, even the free 2gb that came with the machine. However i could never get it to work on xp 32 bit. Works like a charm on win7 and vista both 64 bit. just follow the video like a noob.....
