Root [VIDEO] 10min Root complete Guide

the loop.bat method worked for me. Tried it with three different cards and worked with all the cards, even the free 2gb that came with the machine. However i could never get it to work on xp 32 bit. Works like a charm on win7 and vista both 64 bit. just follow the video like a noob.....

how do you start the loop??it looked simple on the video... nevermind

Can we do this on a Mac?

Also, since there are no ROMs out yet for the DI, what are you guys doing besides using the Nexus One ROM and/or removing the stock DI apps like City ID?

Someone said tethering, but I thought PDAnet did that already?

Pdanet doesn't allow full access. Wireless tethering allows basically a hostpot. That and a flashlight app are the only reasons I wanted to root now.

OP, please reup the files otherwise this thread wouldn't be useful as a sticky with missing files.

the link is dead, i would like to have them if someone could put them back up. thanks
I am merging this thread (which only contains this post that I quoted) with the sticky, as there is no need to make another thread.

SWEET! Just got root after unsuccessfully trying about 10 times with the SanDisk card.

Went to Staples, bought a PNY 2GB card, popped it in the phone, formatted it via the phone...twice for good measure, then re-followed the instructions.

Had to run the loop, but worked exactly like his did. It's the SD card folks - go get a PNY and you'll be fine.

It seems like a lot of people are having success using the PNY cards. I might have to go buy one, being unsuccessful with a 4gb sandisk for about 5 days.

This is frustrating...lol....I tried with my 4gb on 2 differnet computers with all methods posted here.

Bought a 2gb pny formated etc. Tried both computers all methods, still nothing.

Any others tips?

Just achieved root, i'm pumped. After about 5 days of trying, it finally worked. I decided to format my sd card, and that seemed to be the trick. I then used the sd card trick, and right after the computer disconnect sound, I popped the card in. When I popped the card in, I initially thought it was to late because the recovery screen showed up right as I put the card in, but after the second entry of adb shell in the cmd, it worked.

Rooted! Woohoo! 3 days, 2 sd cards, to many hours.

Achieved with

XP SP3
2gb PNY
Volume - plus power with SD card out.
The things I did differently the times it has worked for me is I turned off wifi on the phone, and didn't run loop.
Popped the sd card it at the glitch in the screen wait for the windows device attached sound
ran adb shell
success
followed 10min video for the rest

I got root working with this method within 10 minutes, just like the video said. Just wanted to say thanks!

Wow. Great video and instructions. I did this on first try. It took me about 20 minutes doing what was instructed and pausing video. I had to do loop to get it to work. I have a 16gb TOPRAM Class 6 SD card. I did this on a Win 7 Pro 64bit computer.

Totally painless. I backed up to be careful and it looks like there was no need. All apps and settings remained. Wireless tethering works great.

Thank you so much!

does it has to be a 2 GB PNY card?
If I buy another card I want a bigger one than 2 gigs

It does not even have to be a PNY card, it worked for me with a 4gb sandisk. For me, I decided to format my sd card, then uninstall the HTC drivers and install the PDA net drivers and it worked.

I actually used this method about a week ago, took me about an hour, but thats only because i had to download other stuff, but i used my 16gb sandisk from my old droid and it worked great had no issues, kind of wished i knew why a lot of people are having issues because mine worked right off the bat.

I really don't think the brand/capacity of the card matters that much. From following these threads over the past week and a half, I really think success comes from two things:

1. Getting your computer to recognize the phone (drivers) and
2. The timing on the SD card insertion.

Almost everyone after the initial wave of successful rooters has done so by doing the removal/insertion of the SD card. Obviously, you have to have the drivers set up properly first, and there have been various suggestions on what works best. They all seem to have worked for someone at one point or another, but however you do it, your computer needs to be able to communicate with the phone. And there are so many variables in the driver setup (my guess being that it has to do with whatever else you have set up on your computer previously to communicate with the phone) that what worked for someone else may not work for you.

I've seen no evidence that the card itself has much to do with it, though. To me, reading "it worked the first time I tried a different card" always seems to be accompanied by something else that was different at the same time, i.e. removal and insertion of the card.

These threads have gotten so confusing to someone rooting for the first time that I'm not sure how helpful they are any more, since so many posts detailing success contain differing information about things other than the two I mentioned above. Whatever works for you... great. However, if you're still trying, don't take anything here as being "guaranteed to work" for you. There's a bit of luck involved, mostly relating to timing.

i too think it can be done with any card but i do think the timing may be different for different cards.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!
Just got home from class and decided to give it another shot after playing FIFA. Only took two tries this time and you guys were right it's all about timing. Thank you so much man. I'm sure I'm going to have to downgrade if I ever have to send it back to VZW so favoriting your other vid. Again thanks a lot :D
