Root [VIDEO] 10min Root complete Guide

i keep getting ln: /system/xbin/su: permission denied, any ideas why im following the adb commands exactly, su does work it takes me to a # prompt

I am getting the same thing. Happens on the ln -s step and the chmod step. Any ideas?

Where did you get the files from? There's a link in the first post of this thread, there's another set of files in the other sticky thread (no video, just a text explanation of doing root). I was getting the error with the files from the other thread.

I got the files from this thread and everything worked fine, no errors.

I did the same thing and got it to work as well.

I need help! I'm at the point where you copy commands to the CMD window (after it says unrEVOked for the Incredible) and when I paste cat /sdcard/Superuser.apk > I get Syntax error: newline unexpected. What do I do?

EDIT: Nevermind, I wasn't copying the whole command. I feel dumb.

Hello everyone!
I am new to this forum, also I am new to the smartphone world and last but not least, to the root process. I am a little hesitant to root my incredible. I have some question that I would like to get answers to before I root my device.
1. If I root, if I need to unroot, how do I do that?
2. If I root, will I be able to get the froyo update when it comes out? If not, do I really need that update?
3. If I use wifi tether, will Verizon find out and start charging me extra?
I think that's about it with what I wanted to know. Looking forward for answers and thank you in advance!

basiclly had to buy that pny 2gb sd card then unistalled that htc sync crap and delted sdk off my c drive.
after that i did a restart then formatted the card as fat32 then turned off the phone re installed the htc sync copied the sdk folder back on c drive restarted again then followed the video i had to use method 2 though but all worked hope this helps :)
thank you again for this guide even though its not easy and its all luck lol

So I have a few noob questions...so I currently have the 16gig card that came with the Moto Droid that I kept when I got the Incredible and I do have the 2gig one that came with the Incredible too...I've had no luck getting it with the 16gig card at all, if I manage to get it with the 2gig one will I lose root if I take the 2 out and put the 16 in? I'm assuming so but idk. that and in the vid I see he runs the command loop.bat but whenever I try to run that it just tells me it's an unknown command and I've tried on 2 computers so I'm assuming it's user error.

Just got it done on my first try took about 20 minutes didn't have to touch the memory card.

Win 7 64bit 16GB 6 speed class card.

Oh and I had PDAnet installed

just to let y'all know know the instructions work great using a mac. Just remember to always put ./ in front of adb commands. i rooted mine in less that 3 minutes using mac osx.:D:D

finally got this to work using the pny card from walmart. trick was (as xstahsie mentioned on page 3 and again on page 4 of this thread) to mount the phone as disk drive, format the card to FAT then back to FAT32 then follow the video from the beginning. when i did this, i got it on the first try...i had zero luck before that.

major thanks go to xstahsie for that...

Do u have sdk running?

no. am i supposed to ? I have a mac but I am trying this on my wifes PC. Seem to be having problems with HTC Sync recognizing my phone. I set the phone to "HTC Sync" (just to see if phone could find it on the computer) and it always said it couldn't locate HTC Sync on the computer.

When I get to the part in the video where you plug in your phone and the bubble pops up on the lower right, I don't get that. I got it the very first time I tried but none since then.

What is the purpose of HTC sync to do this? Might just try it today on the mac and see what happens.

Does anyone know how unrevoked is doing with another method/ ironing this one out? I have also tried the "incredible rooter" without luck. I might just have to get that card at walmart but seems like that is just silly since its all based on timing of the card.

Yeah, I ran SDK and loaded the files for the 2.1 platform only. Not sure if that's absolutely required or not but it worked nicely for me. I got rid of HTC sync altogether b/c it seemed to cause way more problems than it helped. I would recommend ditching it and instead, dowload the Unrevoked Recovery Flash Tool package and use the internet link that comes in the bundle to load the modified driver and install it per the instructions it comes with. It's quite straight forward.

Then, set the phone as a disk drive, not HTC sync. Enable USB debugging and you should be on the right track.

oh my god, i'm so annoyed. it's not like this process is hard, but when i get to the recovery screen and do adb shell, i keep getting device not found. tried everything i could find to get it, won't work! how hard could this be!

I'm in the same boat! I've tried 4 cards (not the 2gb pny, but seriously...) and every combination of drivers and tricks I could find. I've tried so many times the back cover is getting loose.

Nothing....
