Root [VIDEO] 10min Root complete Guide

For those who got their phones rooted, can you please check:
Menu--Settings--Connect to PC--default connection type

What do you have?

Win 7 x64 and no go. I could not get it to return the directory thing. Nothing else was in a usb port, so I do not know what could be the problem.

If you're having trouble, consider buying the PNY 2gb sd card from Walmart. It's only $10, as soon as I got it, I rooted on the 1st attempt. My Sandisk 2gb, 8gb and 16gb did not work.Try it out, if it doesn't work you can at least return it.

So the 2GB card from Verizon doesn't work?

2GB card that came with it worked for me and I know it has for others. I really don't think it has much to do with the card...

I took screens as well.

Recovery:

When the phone is on, I get the ADB device and 2 generic volumes. When it's in recovery, I only get the volumes with the exclamation point. Clicking on the devices, it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

thats normal, i've said this before. Your computer wont install the correct drivers for recovery until your phone is in a recovery state.

If you check my video i mention that if it says it didnt install the drivers successfully right before you boot into recovery that its normal.

Could you make a 20 minute video. You seem to fly by some of the finer points trying to get it in under 10 minutes. ;)

Rooted after ~3 days of failing. Thanks for the files and the decent step by step. I didn't, however, use your method of getting the phone detected in recovery. The "insert, remove" sd card method worked for me.

What is that method? I've tried the video about 100 times, different computers, different SD cards... nothing is working for me!!! I haven't heard of or tried the method you mention.. how would I go about doing it? Thanks in advance.

I'm using an 8gb sandisk card. I formatted it FAT32 the long way(uncheck quick format) via my laptop. I don't have HTC sync or modified SDK drivers. I wasn't sure about which packages to load with the SDK, so I installed only those that are related to 2.1. Phone is on normally for everyday use, debugging enabled, plugged into usb. Used adb reboot-bootloader in cmd window to get to bootloader (sd card installed). Hit power to go to menu with "recovery" listed. Had the loop.bat file running in the cmd window. Highlighted recovery and when I hit power button, I began to insert and remove sd basically as fast as I could. As soon as the /!\ came up, I got the correct error in the cmd window. I then just followed the video method from androidforums 10 minute root guide
I also dl'd the files that were uploaded for this method. Seems to make things a bit smoother.

Good luck all. Keep trying if you want it. I've been trying (probably at least 2 hours a day) since the original method was posted. It'll happen eventually.

Thanks.

Went to walmart and got the pny 4gb card.. Still the same result... Tried various methods of formatting the card with no success.

Go back and get the 2 GB one... I used my girlfriends 4 GB one this afternoon and was unable to get the process (either way outlined on the video) to work. Coworker grabbed a 2 GB PNY over his lunch and I was able to get root within minutes. Mine on the 2nd attempt, his on the first.

So after using this method, my sdcard has been wiped clean? None of my apps can find their data on the sdcard and ASTRO claims the sdcard is empty.

What gives?

EDIT: Nevermind, had to remove/reinsert the SD card. All is well.
