Help Video format .mkv playback issues

I have had the phone for about a month now, and have been very happy with the device so far.

But recently after the firmware upgrade, I have notice that the phone is not able to support proper playback of .mkv video files.

I am still able to play them, but not able to fast forward or rewind them, the video just freezes. I am taking about .mkv videos with file size of about 600-800 MB. The Blu ray rips are the ones giving the problem. I have tried different files,and all of them have the same problem, not able to fast forward or rewind.

.avi format works flawlessly ,the biggest file I tried playing was 1.3 GB, and I faced no issues. Its only the .mkv files, big ones, that are giving the problem, after the upgrade.

Anyone facing similar issues, or any solutions to share, please reply.

No issues here, but I'm on Cognition ROM 1.13

Maybe try installing the trial version of Dice Player and see if that will play them OK?

Unam, does your S2 have the Tegra chip instead of Exynos?, if so, that is why.

I tried QQplayer, and it as able to play the large .mkv clips without any problems, its free in the android market (add-free).
Only thing is phone gets warm while playing the video file using QQplayer, probably using too much processing power to decode the file, but at least its working.

You should try Dice Player, it uses hardware decoding, phone shouldn't get hot with it.

Also, thats a good point about the Exynos vs Tegra. If you watch a lot of video on your SGSII, then pray you have the Exynos.

How do I determine that I have Exynos, I have bought the phone in India.Is it region specific ?

On your SII box, on the bottom, does it say GT-I9100 or GT-I9101 in the bottom left?

GT-I9100 , So should be ok.

Its not free, but its money well spent if you're a fan of watching video on your phone. Anyway, its like $4, and once you've spent it you've got access to it for all your future Android handsets.
