Help Video Recording Lag (with example), Micro SD issue?

GodKing

Hello guys...new member, first post.

I've had the HTC EVO 4G for about almost a year. (About time I registered!)

One thing that has troubled me is the 720p recording is very choppy.
Here is a test video that I did,
It even stops recoding video and continues with only audio half way, youtube didn't even upload that part it stops right there!!! I was able to view the full video in VLC media player.

See how bad it is?!

I always thought it was Firmware issues with my custom Rom or perhaps the kernel.

But today I thought it may be the Micro SD card.
I have the standard 8gig Class 2 card that came with it.

Now from what I Understand Class 2 is that it reads/writes at 2Mbs.
Class 4 reads/writes 4Mbs...and so forth.

So is the problem that the SD card can't write fast enough that it just craps out?

Im planning on getting either a 32gb Class 4 or 16bg Class 6, hopefully it would stop the issue.

What are you thoughts?

Thanks!

I can't comment on the SD card because I have the stock one also (even though I think that is your problem too). But does the video stutter when you record at a lower resolution? I don't have any issues with the 800 x 480 setting. Also what about encoding? I am using MPEG 4.

I have set to MPEG 4....perhaps the smaller resolution doesn't need that much data recording speed.

As i was reading online I found on the "SD CARD ASSOCIATION" that Class 2 is used for Standard Recording while Class 4 and Class 6 is designed for "Full HD Recording".

It maybe the card after all!

it could be the card. i have a 16g patriot class 10 card and my videos do not lag. unfortunately, i have not compared it do my stock card. and i do not use it all that much anyways.

I've heard it is the card also. I still haven't bought a new one (sd card) yet but I think it's about time. This phone will be my phone for the next year so I want it to be working really well.

Yes, its the stock card that can't handle the 720p recording. I use the 800x480 with the stock card and it records just fine. On occasion it does get a little choppy but for the most part it handles the 800x480 recording. Recording and playback in the 720p setting is horrible with the stock card.
