Root [VIDEO TUTORIAL] Change your lock screen text

I wish I could do this and change the text on the drop down notification bar but it's way out of my comfort zone. :( I still appreciate the work your doing though :D

It's not hard dude.

The notification bar on the other hand. You know you can change icons and all that through ROM toolbox right?

And there is also UOT kitchen from which you can change the font color, icons, everything in the status bar PLUS much much more. Give it a try and always make a back up.

You wont ever learn to do it if you don't try, IF you want the mods that is. If not then nevermind. lol

thanks for the tut. havent had the time to try it yet cus im not running windows im running ubuntu... maybe today ill install winxp in a virtual machine and give it a shot.

Is it possible to just get rid of the text and not replace it with any text at all? Like just making it a space/blank? Anyone want to try that and get back to me?

Why don't you just try it yourself? I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Takes all of about 5 minutes to do if you've already got the files downloaded so just do it. :D

Has anyone noticed how none of the Devs have dropped by to say anything about the mods on my tutorials?

I feel like the masked magician revealing the tricks :sly: lol

Haha. Nah. Now if you were making tutorials on how to make their specific kernels or something that might be different. Lol

This is my first android phone as well as having one rooted. So I'm fairly new to this. I've never used ROM toolbox but I heard you can make changes to the notification bar. I've never heard of uot kitchen either. I'm a noob at this but I always wanted to mod my phone to how I wanted it.

I just wanted to let you guys know that can you simply remove the MetroPCS text from your lockscreen without following this procedure. Use the instructions on V SuperUser V's other thread http://androidforums.com/esteem-all-things-root/528820-guide-change-carrier-text.html and instead of entering your own text on those steps, simply put a blank space (one space) inside the quotation marks, and now the MetroPCS text will be removed from both the pull down bar and lockscreen.

Dude i completely understand. I was a noob about a year ago. But I'm the type of person that gets intrigued by something and wants to learn everything about it. Which i guess is why i have endless hobbies.

My advice is to start slow. Learn the basics of how the phone works and what does what inside the phone. Take apart a theme to see what's inside of it, shit like that. And always make a backup. If you follow directions well, there is no reason why you can't do any of the stuff on here.

It's the same as working on a computer. Just take your time and READ. :D

That's one of the key reasons why I joined this forum. I was intrigued about wanting to root my phone and be able to customize it to the way I like. I mean I haven't even debloated my phone. There's so much to it.

Yes there's a lot to it. But you gotta learn piece by piece. That's what ALL OF US DID. We rooted our phone and learned that. Then we learned how to install ROMs and Kernels. Got to see what those did and the plus and minus of doing different ones. Then you can delve further and start theming on your own and making your own changes. It all takes time dude. PLay around with your phone and take out files from themes and unzip them and see what's inside. See how the insides work. That's what i like to do. If I wanna know how something works, I take it apart and try to fix it from memory.

Basically your in the best place you can be if you wanna learn how to OWN your phone and do what Android intended us to do and that's freely change our phone.

Unlike that ancient Iphone garbage that's sealed up like fort Knox. And people still think gold is there? PFFFFF And people still think the Iphone is the shit? PFFFFFFF :D :D :D

Utilize the forum my friend. Search and ask questions and you shall receive. We are all here at your disposal. :D

Yeah I've been wanting to install a ROM but I don't feel comfortable doing it. I just want to start off small and debloat my phone and then maybe get into Rom's and kernels. I definitely want to change the icons on the notification bar like 4g icon and stuff. The carrier text too but I have no idea how. I also have very limited computer use.

Decided to do this because it was something I haven't done yet. But I must recommend NOT to do video tutorials. Hard to follow and takes a lot longer than just reading the text. ;)

Your problem I think has to do with some pngs (zzz_battery...). I recommend decompiling a stock version of the file, make the desire changes to the XML and once recompiled copy and paste the resources to the one you wanted to mod in the first place

same here, left you a comment on your "Font Color" post

On apk multitools there is an option (7 I think? ) and it changes how the tools decompiles, try that. Actually if you take a screenshot of apk multitools options I can ttell you which one it is since I'm not near a computer

do you know what option is called ? I'm at work and wont be able to get on a computer til tonight

I couldn't tell you, as I'm not home either lol. Whichever one makes it first either finds the option (me) or takes a screen shot for the other one (you) so I can tell you
