Root [Virgin Mobile] MG2 Kies recovery file Virgin Mobile

Awesome! I linked your kies file to the new "return to stock" guide stickied here in the root forums. Thanks for your help.
 
i may not be able to dev but i certainly can make it easier for people to play after all my phone messed up alot when i played with it figured the file would be need so i grabbed it.
 
For some reason punkmaxx's flashable zips didn't give me the MG2 baseband, but this along with the stickied guide did the trick. Thanks!

I think I can explain that one. Unlike most others phones Ive seen the system identifies the modem itself and lists its baseband. Not so much with our phones.

What is list in the "about" listing of your phone is more dependent on the contents of the folder:

/system/etc/firmware

Flash a MD7 modem but have the MG2 firmware files and it will show MG2. Weird I know.
 
So, even if my phone showed MD7 as the baseband, I may have already had the MG2 radio?
Hmm, I could have saved myself the return to stock unrooted, update, and reroot process just to have the new (better?) radio. Oh well.
 
the one thing i noticed in my case is when they don't agree baseband md7 and radio mg2 the preparing network was always on regardless of 4g on or off. and spotting service. when they agreed i never had an issue.

that file is bad news (MG2 Stock reset Counter.zip)...it is for sprint and writes 16 mb to the start of internal memory, leaving you with a sprint partition table and a partially flashed sprint modem (modem is 40+ MB).

With the partition table change, these partitions will be garbage: persist, cache, recovery, fota. carrier partition deleted. Also modem will be trashed.

I would suggest we pull all the flash counter reset zips for now. Unless I absolutely have to I never flash bootloaders and such.

Im fine messing with system (part14) or boot (part7) but not much else. Playing with fire IMO.

that link was pulled it wont be coming back. the reset zip have been hit and miss so i no longer suggest them.
