Virgin Mobile might release a software update

I'm in the same boat and was wondering the same thing. I would be okay loosing root just to have a fully functional phone as long as the update actually works. I really don't wanna unroot and such just to get it to update. What are people's experiences with similar updates like this in the past and being rooted on stock rom?

I would say just wait and see. For all we know the update could make it worse or break something else.

This is assuming the update is actually coming...
 
Why are some of you so excited for a minor update? If its just the radio fix that would be pretty pointless since you can fix it yourself by doing s off. Once you turned it into an evo 3d I don't see why we should update. It would likely kill root too. If its jelly bean that's a different story.

The point is fix it yourself and void warranty when it's not my responsibility for a simple fix. I would rather keep mine stock

True. We shouldn't have to do all of these procedures to fix something like this. But I like full control over my phone. :cool:

Exactly. It's a matter of principle. Plus, it's good for the casual owners of this phone, the people who don't root or know what rooting is. Not everybody likes tinkering like us :D
 
according to android central, htc is planning on updating all of its 2012 phones except for a few that have only 512 mb ram... does that include us cause i know the evo 3d came out in 2011 but the evo v was introduced in 2012... would htc consider our phone a 2011 or a 2012 phone????

(ps... they also have a plan to upgrade a few 2011 phones too so there is hope either way..)
 
Sprints executive tech support called me yesterday concerning my previous issues with the radio interface shortage error message and confirmed that they are sending an ota addressing the issue on between the 13th and 14th. We shall see. Seeing how long it took for this update and Sprint not selling it anymore I would seriously doubt that we will ever get an os update, I mean a blockbuster on Virgin amounts to maybe 1 million units. In my experience Virgin has only upgraded 1 phone, that being the Intercept 2 years ago, and there is definitely no reason why HTC would shoulder the burden. The Sprint Evo 3d had their 1 upgrade and the minimal units that Virgin sells just wouldn't be worth it.
 
I dunno, I reverted back to stock fully about an hour ago, just so I'm prepared ;) Hopefully, the update comes soon.

How can we find out if this thing is coming for sure today? Also if we are on a custom rom we can't just update as it is? I'm on mobsterom so I don't want to go back to stock but I dread the service I'm getting on my phone, it's just been so shitty. I get like 40kbs dl all the time. 4g doesn't even work anymore my phone, when I flashed some 4g radio I think I messed it up and I'm waiting for some good news today. The phone is fine, the service is great but the software and improper radios I probably flashed are getting in the way. Will this radio fix make the other radio flashes obsolete?

I don't have much experience with this stuff but I managed to root and keep stock with superuser. I was hoping not to have to revert back even If that meant losing root. Plus I'm not sure exactly how to do it and I am tired of all the work researching how to do so. I just want a fully functional phone.

Same here a fully functioning phone for me is just simply getting a stable 3g signal with improved speeds. That's all I want and all I need really.
 
If you go to the ATR section, theres a thread about reverting to stock. I did mine a totally different way...but that guide is very useful and gives step by step detailed instructions on how to revert back. If you follow those directions, you'll be fine.
 
The texting issue is just part of it. Am I the only one who was missing phone calls?
I'm guessing that it's "normal" to miss a call here and there, but after a bit of testing I found that something like 3/10 calls didn't go through. It either went straight to voice or rang and rang but my phone never rang.
Such a shame because it's such a great phone. Hopefully this fixes things. Meanwhile I'm using the HTC One V. By the way i cracked the screen yesterday >_<
I got the geek squad protection, so I can exchange it for an EVO right? Or how does that warranty thing work...?

My wife and I have dealt with the missed calls and lack of service making calls as well. I called virgin mobile today and they did not have an exact time for the release but said it was scheduled for today. They then told me to call HTC to ask them but their representative was clueless about any update or fix being released. Hmm...
 
From HTC:

HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.

Ok, I do have a direct number to Sprints executive tech support team and just got off the phone with them and they said that as of 12 o'clock it's starting to roll out, here's keeping my fingers crossed, and toes, eyes, signals and whatever else that I can think of. Seeing as how this is Sprints tier 1 support team based in the USA and mostly for corporate users. I sincerely hope that their information is more credible and believable than Virgins outsourced script readers.
