Root [Virgin Mobile] Preview

yeah the zip is pretty easy to find if you know where to look (took me like 2 seconds to find and dl it). gapps v10.0 also obvious where to get.

I am super excited about this, but will hold off a bit - but honestly, if wifi was not among the non-working things, I would already have this on my phone.

Yup, wifi is a dealbreaker, but im just excited to know that CM10 is a reality, and am totally willing to wait.

Also agree with not rushing it, and letting the devs do their thing instead of a rushed release that wastes their time with after the fact troubleshooting.

You are appreciated Jerry, RBhero and Chairshot!

One base CM10 build and the floodgates are open for modded releases, reminds me of the early Optimus days.

/excited

Sidenote: totally willing to beta, havent met a build yet that I cant glitch with compulsive app jumping and hyperbrowsing.

I agree that this is great news!!! I also understand that troubleshooting the non-functioning features can be a daunting task. Not sure how Samsung is about releasing source files, but if they are anything like Motorola and the Triumph, it could be a while before everything is working.

I have no problem repeating that Motorola lost this customer for the rest of my life because of their inability or or reluctance to provide this info. I know they don't have to, but I still don't understand their reasoning why not.

I'll be waiting patiently :)

Does this have the newest update from Samsung rolled into it? If so I'm up for giving it a try when a stable release is released

You have to do the update to get the latest baseband, though no one knows if it's really necessary. ;)

My optimus is still lacking the baseband update from 3 years ago...100kbps torrenting on 3g with bad reception, 300k+ when it's decent.

I'm skeptical of any difference, unless it relates to 4g compatability.

Good news!!!

g60madman patched the overlay issues, now video playback works, keyboard works, all apps work in portrait mode, all overlay issues have been fixed! Good work g60madman!

Wifi is the only thing keeping me from PMing you and begging for a link.

...and I <3 our devs

All,

We are still working on the Wifi/Bluetooth. But the overlay issues are fixed. Chairshot will be releasing the Virgin Mobile version later today/tonight for the community to use. The major issues right now are Wifi, Bluetooth, Camera. After reading some of the post in this thread there also looks to be an issue with the MMS. I am sure Chairshot, and or JerryScript can fix this. I know you guys have been waiting for the ROM, however I can't test the VM side of things since I have the Sprint Version of the phone and the VM ROM does not boot on Sprint and the Sprint ROM does not boot on VM after all the changes we have made to the device files.

However this joint effort with me an Chairshot has allowed us to use one kernel for both phones with a different deconfig for carrier. It's a little weird for me not working on a Virgin Mobile phone but it's cool to see that this ROM maybe the first Cyanogen Supported ROM for a Virgin Mobile Device ever (still need to fix the remaining issues of course but it's the plan).

As for moving on past CM10 to 10.1 or 10.2 I have been working on the 3.4 kernel which is very slow going but hopefully in time if I can get it booting we can move to the next versions of CM. Even though this is still an Alpha ROM it's very stable in terms of speed and also sitting around 160MB for size. Anyways it will be worth the wait :D

I tested the first release and 4g was a no go anything new in 4g front of one they are releasing? Just asking cause if 4g is there it won't see 3g so for people like me smothered in 4g there is no data at all.

As far as I know 4g is not working currently on the VM side. However users have let me know 4g is working on the Sprint side after flashing the Virgin Mobile m5 baseband?!? Since my dev phone is the Sprint version and has no service I can't really test all functions of the phone. This is the main reason I released my ROM sooner than Chairshot is because I needed to test data for Sprint users.

Ok. I got m5 and 4g didnt work for me. Showed 5bars and I could call but every app said no data. Hope that helps. Wasnt complaining just reporting. Glad to see a booting vm cm :D

You can go into settings and enable CDMA/evdo. Then you have 3g all the time, even when you're in a 4g area.
