Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Change Bootscreen

Does anyone know of how to set a custom bootscreen on this phone? I was able to do it back when I had a custom ROM on one of my older phones, but I'm not sure if there's any way to do it seeing as how there are no custom ROMs out there yet... Is there a way to do it manually or anything?

i've never had success with this either, rom toolbox pro always says its successful but it still stays the same, I tried it on my old epic touch 4g thru virgin mobile (which had the same lame boot animation with some girl dancing) and could never figure it out and gave up on it.

same results with this phone =/

how did you attempt to change it in the past

This phone has a 'chameleon boot' feature that uses specified packages depending on carrier rather than a single standard bootanimation.zip.

Go into your build.prop (you can use ROM Toolbox for this) and look for ro.lge.chameleon_boot_0 or _1 or _2, the default names should make it pretty clear which one is for which carrier. Virgin is _2 for me. You'll see that the setting goes
(unknown #),(sound file),(boot animation)

The animations live in /system/media. If you have a bootanimation.zip already (if not, that's its own guide), you can replace the one that matches your carrier, just make sure to use the same filename. Alternately, you can edit the filename in the build.prop as long as you have your animation in the same folder.

You can also change the (sound file) setting to 'no' for a silent boot. The sound files live in /system/media/audio/ui, otherwise same ideas apply.

Something I found cool by accident. I installed Android Assistant (18 features) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advancedprocessmanager&hl=en

because I had it installed on my old phone. In it's options I checked for it to set the "Silent Boot". I later decided I didn't need the app an uninstalled it. The Silent Boot flag must have stayed set because my phone still boots quietly without the app installed. :)

Is your phone rooted?
I made no changes to my boot sound...I think.
I noticed mine became silent after I rooted.

...Once I was rooted I changed photo click to silent by changing the sound file. May have done that to the start up sound as well, not positive.

first of all... i wll not recommend to use apps from play to Change bootanimation or ui sounds.. you should push them and always backup orugianals in case you don't like changes.... it may brick... for sound file needs to be rename as Poweron.ogg /give wr-r-r permission.. change owner root/root

I am rooted now. But I did the install/uninstall silent boot before my phone was rooted.

How did you silence the camera exactly?

I use Total Commander:
File system root/system/media/audio/ui
The file associated with my camera sound was camera_click.ogg
I renamed it oldcamera_click.oldogg

I rename all my sounds and apps that I don't want this way so I still have them on the phone and easy to find if I want / need them again.

Have a 2013 FG F3 Virgin, ROOTED by MOTOCHOPPER and you can find the Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile (boot and shutdown animations in) system/media using ROM Toolbox. I'd rather not delete the stock animations so I just created another folder for the BIG 3 stock animations and moved them to that folder. Using ROM Toolbox downloaded, installed, turned on Randomize and set to NEXT boot animation and WALA or is that WHA LA! Have Fun....

i dont understand this...

TL;DR go to a root file explorer, Go to /system/media, change bootanimation_Virgin.zip to .bak, download the boot animation of your choice, rename it bootanimation_Virgin.zip, push it to previous directory, reboot, and voila.

For the longest time, I hated using the stock boot animations on my HP touchpad, so I tried using ROM toolbox to change it. It would always say install complete, but the boot animation would never change. So I looked online, and read the FAQ I believe is where I saw it. You have to change the install location of the boot animation to /data/local if installing to /system/media didn't work. Worked on the HP touchpad, not on our f3. Then I decided to swap around the bootanimation.zip in the/system/media, rebooted, and the boot animation had changed. Please, remember to keep backups of those zips as .oldzip or .bak in case you decide to change it back.

Happy modding :)

Hmm... Well, I'm gonna try real quick, let's see how it goes.

Thats weird, it worked for me first try :/ is your system set to r/w instead of r/o? Also are you on zv5 or zv6?

You can't just use any boot animation though!!! You have to have one with the same resolution as our screen. Otherwise it won't work, it could leave you in a boot loop, or it will be distorted.

well the stock one was at 480x800 and thats exactly what i used, i made this for the fore mentioned thread i made on xda, its just a zip with everything i have for the boot screen if you want to take a look

jaime custom boot ani

but i really cant understand why i cant get this to work -_-

edit: ill attach one of the jpg's if you dont want to download the zip ;P

By that I mean read/write instead of read only. In ES file explorer, you turn root explorer on, click on the root explorer text (not the on off button) and I believe it says mount partitions or something similar. Change /system to r/w. I'm going to download the zip real quick and try it, to see if it'll work for me

Edit: the boot animation wouldn't play, it was just a black screen. I opened it up and made sure it was just the boot animation, and rezipped it. I am pretty stumped here :/

shark, were you able to use other boot animations? could it be something with my format? i rendered it to a jpeg sequence from after effects, is there a right way to change a video to a jpeg sequence for these animations?

Yeah, I myself currently have the aperture science logo from portal as my boot animation. It very well could be the format of it, as every other boot animation I've tried has worked out. The one I'm using has .png instead of .jpg, but the stock sprint one is .jpg. there's no difference between a .jpg and jpeg right? My next guess is to try and make it online, just Google boot animation creator and see what pops up
