update: alright well it worked, so its got to be something on my end, its the same format and everything so idk why its not working.. ive also tired 2 programs that change videos into boot animations and i cant seem to figure out how they work haha
update #2: alright so i used a program called boot animation creator and its working, i guess it was the format or something, but after the animation it goes black, is the animation too short?

I think you have to do something in the desc.txt that make it loop the final set of images that you'd want to repeat over and over, but I'm not 100% positive on that

yeah maybe ill try making a longer animation and see if it fills it in or try making a "part 1" and having that loop
edit: so i made a part 1 folder and just put the last frame from the part 0 folder in it, then in the desc.txt file i had it loop infinite times (set it to 0) so and now it works perfectly! im so glad i got this to work finally, ive been trying since christmas (when i got this phone) thanks shark for you help haha

Okay, so I started this thread and then never really came back to it as I ran into several problems along the way with making custom from-scratch boot animations. I used this guide to basically learn how to build the from scratch, but figured I must have been doing something stupid wrong...
There are a few important things I learned. These have not applied to previous phones I've owned, so these seem to be restrictions for this particular phone.
1. Custom animations CANNOT be larger than the phone's resolution, it seems.
2. Frame rate must be set to 10 or below. Otherwise the phone's bootscreen process will basically crash and you'll have a crappy-looking bootup process.
Knowing these two things, I was able to finally make my own boot screen from scratch using Blender (3D Modelling software). Here's what I came up with... It's an Aperture Science bootscreen, but has some fancier animation than one's I've seen before. Also, this gives me the capability to customize the bootscreen with things like my name, so noone else can claim it is their own.
If anyone's interested, I can make one with either their username or real name on it, as well as mostly any kind of modification you'd like. (I mostly do abstract art, so keep that in mind)
I'll also throw a link to the sound file that I pair with the bootscreen. If you don't know how to implement that, it's best to not try and screw up some major system files. If you do know what you're doing, though, the file is /system/media/audio/ui/PowerOn_Virgin.ogg

i used cinema 4d for the 3d work and after effects for the... effects... but cinema 4d is more for animation while blender is more for modeling. and yeah, i was able to use 20fps, thats also what the stock VM animation uses so you should be able to as well.

I flashed my epic 4g Touch with the "TouchByS4" Rom, it has a custom Bootscreen already installed with the rom. It is so much better than the stock bootscreen.
It is because the file is named differently than normal. Rom toolbox is replacing bootanimation.zip while what the virgin mobile phone uses bootanimation_virgin.zip just rename it manually using a root file manager ie. "es explorer"
/system/media/bootanimation_virgin.zip
