Yes you can flash with cwm or 2nd-init. Factory reset only happens when you use "Reboot Recovery" commands; like in an app, adb terminal, etc. Always use key combo to enter recovery and you should have no problems.

Ok guys, I have a problem. Decided to reflash V5, reroot saferoot, install stock V6 update, and then reinstall apps via TB. Tried installing cwmt from Windows, but that didn't work. Will I have to start over and install cwmt while in V5? I have stock recovery running though.

I need more info. What happened when you say it didn't work using Windows installer

It couldn't find SU even though the phone was connected via mtp and seen by the pc.

Figured out my way round it. Reran playgod lte2 exploit. Then booted to cwm. Installed cwmt zip file, rebooted recovery to check. Worked, shut off phone. Used vol down, and pwr. For some reason didn't work, so I shut down phone after booting Android. This time, used vol down, home, and pwr. Got prompt to release buttons, then phone booted cwmt. Whew! Tried that a 2nd time to be sure.

Then rebooted, and came on here thru phone to reply to you. Dunno why I have to use home while booting to get to cwmt now, but if it works solid, then it's all good. :D

Yes the added home key is interesting. But the main thing is you can enter recovery. Btw, you can download the zv6 bin file for LG flashtool now (sammyz is the man). That way you don't have to update after re-installing firmware, if you ever decide to do it again.

i have dumb question. i have a t-mobile optimus f3 and i saw the one post of the other member have a t-mobile and this working for him. i was going to try it with mine but i cant tell what version i have. you guys are talking about v5 and v6. im looking at my info and i cant seem to figure which one i have. so this is my phone info....can someone let me know which one i have and if i should go ahead and try using this recovery:

model - lg p659 (fx3t)

baseband version - M8930B-AAAATAZM-3.2.25033

android - 4.1.2

kernel architecture - armv7l

kernel version - 3.4.0-perf-gc71fdda (P65910b.1383555226)

Build number - JZO54K

Software version - P65910b

(and yes its rooted already)

Thanks in advance for anyone who helps me out.

Unfortunately I have no yes/no answer. This recovery is meant for the VM variant of the F3 not the T-Mobile. Although some T-Mobile users have said they were successful I do not own one so I can't test for myself. My advice would be to check the Metro-PCS F3 recoveries. M-PCS is a closer match to your variant then ours.

Did you flash the recovery?

btw, v5 and v6 refer to the Virgin Mobile Software update version; LS720ZV5 or LS720ZV6. T-mobile uses their own software update versions. P65910b in your case.

Where can I find the 6.0.4.4 version? The OP has 6.0.4.8 listed in the first thread.

I may of been mistaken about this working on T-mobile. I thought i read it somewhere. I just went though the threads and saw nothing about it working for T-mobile with the exception of this thread posted by someone who can't speak english too well. Flash at your own risk my friend.

I would however suggest you make sure you create a backup of your recovery image first. A factory reset will not reset your phone's recovery image.

no, i didnt. i dont have any backups made, yet because i usually do it through a recovery. and i didnt want to take the chance and screw something up on my phone because this cwm version seems like its more for virgin mobile. i just saw the one member said it worked for his t-mobile so i wanted to get more info before i tried anything.

if you're going to try it and you're successful...please post back and let me know, please. thanks.
I believe it worked because I am backing up my phone right now through ClockworkMod Recovery, but I saw the following:

Backup of system completed.
Backing up data...
Can't mount /data!

Also, upon rebooting, there was a factory reset, so now I have to go and start over again...*sigh*

The key combo

From what I'll learned about the Metro-PCS\T-Mobile side they have been using the 'reboot-recovery'. For some reason using the key combo F-R's the phone. You can try it. If you do and get no reset let me know if you would, please. Oh, when you get a F-R, the /data and /cache wipe doesn't happen until after you leave recovery. So you must go thru boot and then back into recovery to restore or backup. Just the way it works I'm afraid.
