This recovery was not made directly to be used on the optimus f3. It was made for another lg phone which uses the same mount points for partitions.

So it can clear and install, but will not function correctly for system commands if they changed on the phones.
 
Just wanted to show thanks for the easy instructions, just switched carriers from boost having a rooted ZTE (no real roms for that either) but I wanted to still have root access to remove a lot of the annoying bloat that comes with almost all phones linked to a device sold by carriers. Still tinkering with what is safe to remove on Virgin :P thanks again and hopefully we see a full compatible recovery and ROM on the F3 :)
 
worked flawlessly. Backed up no issues. Waiting to see if a version of cwm is put together for our specific phone so that the dalvik issues and all the other issues are worked out. Hopefully we get a dev soon and we can see 4.4 one day!

I received a similar error when I wasn't rooted so maybe you either skipped the rooting process or didn't do it correctly. Download an app that checks if you have root.

I set mine to MTS so I could copy the files to it while proceeding, but I believe it would work on either setting. Running "adb devices" shows the phone in both modes.
 
Question or Warning, you be the judge. BTW :lollypop: my F3 upgrade from OE. I rooted it as soon as I got it unwrapped. No sweat! Thanks for the tools and tutorials. Link2SD, moved apps, installed new apps, linked, etc.

Two days ago VM pushed a system upgrade to LSVM720ZV6 <- six. On the new F3 I got from BestBuy on 12/31 for $89., there were no VM startup screen or bloatware. The only OEM app was a Sprint app. I figured it was rushed to market to dump.

When F3 rebooted, an error msg appeared that the phone was rooted and would only boot into CWM. I unbricked F3. When it recovered, I had full VM bloatware, startup screen, Mobile ID, and My Account.

I ran all the updates and proceeded to root F3 again. The trouble started at LTE2/Recovery "Recovery Apply." It failed with a crazy error msg. When I rebooted, it did another system update (or the original system update succeeded). Now it has LSVM720ZV6 and when I broke root and ran root checker, etc. I get a message that the binaries are out of date.

Question: Is there a fix, update or workaround? At the current pricepoint, there is demand. I waited for the price to drop.

If not, kudos to Virgin for clamping down on me. :o Sorry and wish I had taken better notes to document it better.

Now, I'm skeptical to root this phone because I have seen mixed results on all of the tutorials. The question I am specifically looking for is whether this method will work if I accepted the OTA updates when I bought the phone? I can't seem to find the answer to this for any of the methods.
 
I just got this phone a few days ago and using motochopper didn't work - guessing my new phone had all the latest updates as well (it did a bunch of stuff after I activated it, honestly I don't remember if I was given the option to not do the updates or not).
However the method in the link posted above did work (saferoot method) with a few mods (I put the changes I had to make in the thread)

I seem to be hung up after flashing the cwm zip using the init apk,
it says "
Now is time for one last reboot, once in Android power off the phone.
Turn the phone back on while holding Vol - and Pwr\lock"

does it mean use the reboot option in cwm
or do i "power down" while in cwm after flashing then try to use the key combo to restart in recovery?

I cant get cwm to start using the keys, I get a small message stating
Release keys going into recovery mode but nothing happens after a min i release the keys and it starts no recovery,

After rebooting in cwm after flashing it asked somrthing about stock flashing a yes or no option
i picked yes but now after trying to reflash i no longer get asked the question
 
Love the instructions, very simple for relative noobs such as myself. I ran into a problem on step 7, hoping someone can provide guidance. The initial root was successful, but when i opened LTE2/I1m and chose "Recovery Apply," it gave me a failure notice.

Failure - error running exec(). command: [su, c. data/data/com. eclipse.android.razr.bootsrap/files/surunner.sh] working directory: null environment: null

It's a LG optimus FE (VM) that I'm trying to root. Any suggestions for where I'm failing? Thanks!
 
I saw someone earlier with the same issue I had. My phone had the v6 update when in bought it and had to root with a different method.

So the problem, I ran the app, applied recovery and rebooted to cwm. Flashed the zip with no error. Now when I try to go to recovery with the keys, I get a message that says...

Release all keys, going to recovery, waiting.

But it never does anything. Otherwise, my phone still works normally, no other issues.
 
OK, so I'm fixing to get me an f3, but it comes with v6 out of the box.

So does that mean that I wouldn't be able to get no recovery at all?

I mean, I would at least like an 2nd init. I'm coming from an L9 and that's what I've been using.

But would the 2nd init not work either on the latest update?

you can get into cwm recovery on v6 through i think the second init.. by repeatedly taping the home button dunno know if it can flash anything though but I do know for a fact you can make backups and recover.

Actually all you have to do is flash the zv5 aboot image to your device and images patched with the Loki exploit will work again, boot or recovery, both versions (5 & 6). This seems to be the only fix for the update since I don't foresee the V6 being added to the loki_patch.c source file anytime in the near future.

If you have the new aboot you can generate a new Loki from it. It is trivial.
 
Just rooted my phone; it's on the V5 version. I didn't use motochopper, but saferoot. I did use the lte2 and CWM zip provided. As I type this, my phone just finished backing up. I ran the phone activated and unrooted for a few days. Factory reset it before rooting, so I could backup the original phone. Again, many thanks for posting this! :D
 
I got the Saferoot app for my V6 F3 (Boost); installed it via download - got root. However, I haven't been able to locate the appropriate CWM for recovery; every one I tried from the Play Store, has forced my phone into a factory reset when I've tried to enter into recovery mode from the apo itself. The first reset wiped Saferoot from the phone's internal memory, yet root has remained... anyone got a helpful soul for a guy that gave root to HTC & Samsung phones running Gingerbread would be greatly appreciated - LW
