Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Unbrick VM/Sprint F3

You would need to get the md5 value your self. I don't think anyone cared enough to get it early on. You would need to compare other's md5 value to your own.
I extracted each bin file my self to get the partitions I needed to create the stock roms.
The locations where they are getting these files are from reputable sources. They are getting them directly from LG's website. Unfortunately LG likes to change the download URL fairly often to keep people from leaching and eating up their bandwidth. LG also wants people to come to their website instead. The links we have are almost 100% up all the time and are there as a service.

Is that where they get it from? And those website takes old versions down? I do want V6, I'm just asking if these guys are trustworthy and were they got their sources.

update: I figured out how they do it. They get it straight from the LG servers.

Question is now, is it possible for them to modify it or change it and repack it?

Can someone extract the firmware, modify and repack it. Thus making it potentially dangerous to use? Is that possible? And when you try to flash that modified firmware will it know it's been modified and not work? I'm just making sure I can trust this firmware.

Yup: )

you mean yup to they get it from the LG servers. Not yep they can actually remodify it? And repack it to be used as flash restock through LG Flash tool?

I do trust OUDHS. Although, I just don't want the possibility of someone repacking something possibly malicious in it. Because that would be a scary thought.

By the way, you said earlier that you actually extracted the .bin?
You actually have LG server download links to LS720V6?
That would be useful. Could you share it?
Then I'm assuming it's a KDZ file, and you have to make the actual stock rom yourself? To flash it properly?

Anyways, I updated. I did reflash my stock rom. Everything went okay.

The only problem I had with was pg 2 instructions was, that to get into download mode, I had to press both up volume+down volume to get into download mode as I plugged in the usb cord. Not just with volume up, volume up gets you into a screen where it tells you to hard reset.

Phone reset at 80%, and I unplugged it. I got scared for a moment because I thought that maybe I was suppose to wait until 85% because it might reset again. Fortunately I did it right, and it didn't matter.

We don't have a kdz file. Everytime I make one it doesn't work. The cab file it's self is bad. I have both v5, and v6 cab files. both are bad.

The bin files can be downloaded from the links in the first post of this thread.
And your right about having to hold both volume up and down while pressing power. It's also not clear about the 80% mark. That also happens to everyone. It should be updated.

Yeah, it's possible it could screw someone up (maybe). What would happen if they didn't unplug the phone and waited at the 85% mark? I assume once it gets out of download mode, it's probably ignoring all data it's trying to be sent to it. And nothing would happen.

Also I didn't press the power button either. Just volume up and volume down at the same time. Then pushed the usb cable into the computer. Maybe it works both ways.

IF YOU DO NOT READ EVERYTHING IN THIS POST, I WILL NOT HELP YOU. If you do not understand a part of the post, you may question the part you do not understand, but please do not ask for help without reading everything at least twice. If you are too lazy to read, you should have never messed with your phone to begin with.

Ok, this phone does not unbrick the same way as most other LG phones will.

Downloads

This guide is intended for windows users. There is no way to unbrick this phone unless you are on windows due to the software being used for flashing only made for windows.

  1. Put your F3 in download mode:
While powered off, hold volume up + volume down + power
  2. Connect a trustworthy USB cable
  3. Open up LG Flash Tool
  4. Tick "Select Manual Mode"
  5. The DLL selected is called "blah....blahLGFLASHv15.dll", find where you extracted that to
  6. Select Add, choose the tot file you downloaded.
  7. Press ok.
  8. Read instructions here on how to flash (Just change it to COM Port 41, not 1): LG Flash Tool - Free - no need B2B User/Pass - GSM-Forum

Thanks you two ^ :)

Help me please I have read and reread the instructions too many times to count to the point I have them memorized I've read so many comments and it keeps hanging up at 3% I think I'm using the wrong dll file but I have only been able to find that one ls720 not vm720 I found comments referring to the other dll file I don't mean to rant I've just been up for the last 30 hours trying to unbrick my phone and killing 2 1/2 computers in the process

Keep trying, if it keeps falling at the 3% point that usually means that there is a memory issue and it can't be fixed

Sorry if I sound rude but in the program when it says ready at the top it says model: ls720 I am assuming that is because of the dll file that you select in step 2 wouldn't I need to use a different dll in that step to make it say model:vm720?

I didn't think you were sounding rude at all. You have the right dll file, for some reason its just not working.. you can try usind a different USB port on your computer or a different computer all together. It most likely will not work but keep trying. Unfortunately it doesn't work for every one

Ah ok I'll switch ports on my computer and I just had to reinstall Windows and I'll pick A different cord Will post results tonight

The problem I was having was no matter which files I was using it would always fail at 3% primarygpt or some file like that anyways the phone is dead now took it apart and removed the cameras and put a new cables on

Thanks a lot guys. This fixed my bootloop'd droid. Lel. Took me all night to do so, but it was worth it. Not to mention, I also went from ZV6 Motochop to ZV7 TowelRoot. Sucks having to re-download everything though. Really does.

I attempted to unlock my bootloader using a method not meant for the F3. I ended up bricking it. I thought it was done for, it wouldn't power on only the light would flash rapidly. Fortunately I was still able to unbrick with this guide. So I think its nearly impossible to completely brick this little beast. :D

Yeah I know this is late, but iv been trying to fix this piece of crap for over a year. Whenever I try this flashing method it shows the f00002 error at 31 seconds and says download failed. Help me please

Great tutorial! I've used it a couple times now.
Unfortunately, it looks like oudhitsquad.com is down now, and I can't for the life of me find another copy of the dll and firmware.

Anybody know if it's uploaded elsewhere?
