Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] VM LS720V8 - Updating, Rooting, and Unbricking

I understand what a stock ROM is, and what a custom ROM is. But you said there are other ROMs which are stock-BASED ROMs. What does that mean?

Stock based roms use the lgsystemui, and lgsystemsettings. Custom roms use systemui, and systemsettings.

The top notification bar at the top phone your screen with the clock Is the ui. The settings screen is the systemsettings. They look different and offer slightly different options.

Those in the stock roms all look the same. The custom roms can deviate.

The aosp roms although are "Google stock" they are not "lg stock". When we're talking about stock, we're talking about lg stock.

Unfortunately the only custom rom for this phone is the cyanogenmod rom. Progress has been slow. All other roms are stock based. I'm currently working on building a device tree for it so we can have other custom roms.

There are ways to disable the notification but I'm unaware as,to how.

You are correct, you will need to re root before installing twrp. Just besure to un root before running the update again.
hey man i rooted my phone "with stumproot" and i can run root apps but i still get the "please make sure you are subscribed to a mobile tether plan ect" message when i enable it with a rooted tether app or the "android tether app by treve mod" someone told me get a custom rom that disabled the tether restrictions feature/permissions do you have any info on turning my phone into a mobile hotspot with out paying for a subscription i would appreciate ANY info thanks in advanced.

You can use robaho's wifi hotspot netmgr LG F3 app. You will need to pay for the app, but it should work without a subscription.

There are a few older methods that a free if you search the F3 forum. They might work for the newest version or not but worth a try :)

yeah i was a nub to this forum when i asked that, I ended up finding and buying that app, it works on all version of the F3 as long as its rooted, I highly recommend anyone on a rooted F3 to buy that app. Thanks for the info even though the reply was a tab bit late. robaho if you ever read this thanks for your app have had zero problems with it.

Just wondering... is this real or fake?
http://www.lollipop-rom.org/mp3-0/lg-optimus-f3-5509.html

It says it is a "tutorial from forum.xda-developers.com" however I searched forum.xda-developers.com and did not find it.

If there's no reference at xda, that's a dead giveaway for any method being fake, usually. All the links on that site lead users to completing a long list surveys full of things you most likely don't want.

FAKE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Toronado and DaffyDuckNJ, that link sums up this Boost Mobile F3 that I have:

Fake.

No real root features that can be utilized, due to its locked, read-only bootloader and ext2 limitations. Phones like this are typical in our worldwide, evolving nanny states and nations.

How I miss the days of Gingerbread... but, there are myriad things that these newer phones can do.

My dream phone - a rootable, HTC M9... LW

This link isn't fake... it's my fiancée's YouTube page showcasing me performing music. Become a follower, if you feel the need - we'd love to have you!

LW, a Nexus would be better IMHO. Those phones come with unlocked bootloaders out of the box. I'd have to change from Virgin Mobile service to use those phones. There are some prepaid services now that allow unlocked phones... will do that someday once my financial situation improves. :)

I got a Tribute last October when my F3 overheated. Tried to revive my F3 a month ago, but the memory is still shot somewhere. Whenever I try to update from recovery, the thing wipes itself clean. Oh well... At least Tributes can now be rooted. You can buy them for a good price online now. Will check out your YouTube link later.

This phone is so annoying right now. Not only still getting the update notifications, but now also getting the "low storage space" error again. I checked and both the stock Android browswer and the version of Chrome browser on my phone are vulnerable to the FREAK attack. https://freakattack.com/

Now that I'm getting the low storage space error again, there is probably no way to even update Chrome. What I'd really like to do is wipe the whole phone and start over. Even if just to re-install the stock ROM. But I'll need to get a decent SD card first.

I'm over this phone. Boost Mobile, too. I stopped updating everything except for Lookout Antivirus, the Ghostery Browser, and Cleaner Extreme Pro. I've kept all of my old mp3s that were previously installed in a rooted Samsung with the same SD card, and, I installed the Send To SD app. No root, no CWMT (so, I forgot... I update PlayerPro, too).

This phone and carrier can KMA... LW

I'm getting the System Update notification. V8 is around a 44mb update, right? I believe I updated from V6 to V7/8 before when my phone was rooted with motochopper, and nothing went wrong. I'm currently on V7-towelrooted. Wondering if it's still safe to update to V8, as the update notification does get annoying after a while.

It should be, just follow the instructions in the first post.

Those update notifications finally stopped a few months ago. But my phone is now in "Safe Mode" as of a few days ago. I don't know how that happened but it showed up on the lower left of the screen. And it's giving me insufficient space errors constantly.

I'm finally ready to buy an SD card. I assume Class 10 and UHS-1 is OK. (I posted a question but had no replies.) http://androidforums.com/threads/sd-card-advice-needed.923587/

After I get the SD card, then I want to install one of the ROMs from this forum.

Class 10 is good. Its the fastest.

Not a complete noob but were is the v8deoxed bin file. My phone will not allow me to access the security settings so I can install from "unkown sources" to root it. I have flashed the V5 bin multiple times and it will not change. I really want to get rid of lg bloat..

If your referring to the zip listed in this thread, That zip file is meant to be flashed in recovery. Not with the lg flash tool

Ok. Now i understand. I flashed theV7.bin with the lg flash tool and it still will not let me access security settings... urghh . I need this thinh rooted..
