Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Wifi Hotspot Available

Thanks robaho, it seems to work well.

I initially tried with WPA2 security but it would only connect with limited connectivity. I then tried no security, and it rebooted the first time, and failed to activate the hotspot thereafter. Using the default settings with WPA works just fine though.

I just tried wpa2 on my phone and it works fine. Not sure why people are having reboot issues. Did you install someone's else's WiFi hotspot (with root) ? Many of those install custom binaries that are all messed up. Once you do that you have no choice but to unbrick.

It's possible I tried another tether app prior to installing it. I've gone back to stock once to apply the 1.6 update, so I'll try that again.

EDIT: Unbricked, WPA2 works now. Thanks.

Btw, if you're having issues with force closes and you HAVENT installed someone else's hotspot previously, please report.

Just beware, many if the root hotspots install custom binaries that may not be reverted if you uninstall. These custom binaries can really mess things up, and then an unbrick is needed.

My hotspot only uses the features already in the rom.

Just figured id share info that u will wana do unbrick method and follow ur guide to installing software update then the wifi app works perfectly no more rebooting issue!

I'm fairly certain its not the update. It is installing other hotspots first that mess us the system files.

It definatly could be just that. But lol i trying to talk others into ur kernel and software cuz the kernel alone makes this phone so snappy!

Btw, version 1.2 was posted to the play store. The reboots on start should be fixed, as it was being caused by special characters in the ssid and password.

Just an fyi, based upon the number of people that buy the app then cancel, I can only assume they are stealing it. For this reason, I will no longer be supporting this community with this app or the oc kernel. Take care...

I haven't downloaded your hotspot software because as I mentioned, the other one works for me. But! Don't leave us with no support on the OC kernel! D: I'm sure that a lot of people were just trying it out and maybe more people were not having success with it?

Well isn't that a middle figure to the people that did support you, based on an assumption. You had known issues with the app if people had previously install another app. maybe if you put out a demo with limited functionality you would have had less cancellations.

Oh btw

I will continue to support the app for bugs via email if the user provides their transaction #. I made nothing on this, and never planned to, this decision was made purely on principle - that by people purchasing it would limit the number I needed to support. And the cancellations were happening after the known issues were fixed.... and no reports of further issues, so you tell me what was going on...

Thanks to all that did support me.

Gotta luv it we get decent developer and people abuse it as if that app even cost that much that they steal it.Well thanks for hard work sucks u wont be releasing ur next kernel ur last one was flawless as is ur wifi tether!

Nobody was stealing it. They could get the same thing with foxfi for free

Someone's being a little... baby

That's right, I said it. :-D

You could at least release the modified source code to the kernel you've been working on if your not going to support it anymore.

A couple of things. It does work. I've gotten it to work. Just not via wifi. I'm sure most people who purchased it then canceled have other phones. It most likely didn't work for their phone. And I was joking. Note the ':-D'

Don't expect that everyone on the net has your experience. Computers come with difficulty for allot of people.

i received a refund on it because while it seemed to function to the point that it made a wifi hotspot, i could not connect to it, and i do in fact have an older phone (with a paid version of foxfi on it) that i'm using by putting my sim card in every time i come home. I have the latest firmware on the phone with the google now launcher. I wonder if maybe the fact i use tmobile makes a difference somehow since all your positive comments in the app store seem to be from people using verizon.

Yeah, I'm one of those users who may end up doing a refund. Not because I'm trying to cheat, but simply because I can't connect to the hotspot. Same as Lord Orwell. Hotspot gets created, just can't connect to it. Just FYI, I'd pay $50 if this worked.

Also, this is probably entirely my fault, since I installed PDANet first. But I didn't not realize this would prevent the app from working before I paid for it. Anyway, sorry to hear you won't be supporting this any more.

Actually, I received some very nice PMs on the matter and in general, and I'm coming back.

If you need any help getting this working on non VM phones, please let us know. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be happy to help.

Just bought and installed the app, actually works yay for a working app on the F3 that isn't some kind of kludge LOL
