Root [Virgin Mobile] Stock .tar for Virgin Mobile

normal19

Newbie
What is the chances an ODIN file for Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy Victory will be released? I softbricked mine trying to upload a wrong one and now TWRP can't mount /data, but I can still use recovery and ODIN.

Edit: Well I managed to fix the /data mount problem by formatting /data in TWRP, but now I'm back to my old problem where I got into bootloop somehow in stock rooted rom. I googled and didnt' find any stock dumps for Virgin Mobile, serves me right for forgetting to make my own backup i guess....

Still, is there hope anyone will make a stock image?

Oh and I still get the error "Unknown file system: 'datamedia'

Have you tried this Stock System TAR? http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/android/samsung/sph-l300/stock/system/galaxy-victory-stock-system.tar

I am 99% sure that is the stock ROM. These files are hosted by xInterlopeRx and [OUDHS] so he would be able to tell you if that is what you need for sure :)

There is also the Stock Kernel: http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/android/samsung/sph-l300/stock/boot/victory-stock-kernel.tar
Stock Recovery: http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/android/samsung/sph-l300/stock/recovery/victory-stock-recovery.tar

EDIT: It seems these files are for Sprint users

I did try all those files and Odin reported an error for the stock rom and started cause the errors in TWRP about Unable to mount /data, I had to use the formal internal data to fix them. Eventually I managed to get a stock rom working (I think from Rwilco12's Android Repository - Downloads) but it booted to the Sprint logo instead, and still won't go further than taht. I made a Nandroid after everything broke, so I have a phone that gets the Virgin Mobile logo, but nothing else. I could get the stock recovery and back and i heard that i can use stock recovery to get the OTA update, but I didn't see any options to do that, plus I already did it before I rooted.

Also I saw a CM10 build and got excited, I flashed it and while it boots and the menus scroll and some apps open, nothing works in it. But at least its bootable, hopefully CDMA signal at the very least begins to work on it soon.

In the meantime, is it practical to, say, report the phone as lost, get another at a discount, then root it and flash a stock image from it to my old one and sell off one of them?

Edit: I tried again with a different cable and now it works again, even though I don't get data or 4G anymore, but I got a billion voice mail notifications right when I turned it on for the first time lol. But this time I can't update by OTA, even after flashing stock recovery, I get the error

assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/SW_Configuration.xml","70c14cf4f075ae395683eb364fb0f134b14f6bf5","066fca423ad3d8237ee999ab0c43afa8da212d46")
E:Error in /cache/9af04dd4d5c7.update_SPH-L300_LH1_secure_to_MC1.zip
(Status 7)

Is there way to bypass verification and force the update? HOw do I generate /system/SW_Configuration.xml? Also I flashed TWRP and tried to flash it there and it still didn't go, but I managed to pull the MC1 update from the phone, if you want I'll upload it. I'd still like for a stock Virgin Mobile image so I can get LTE and stuff back thoguh but I can live without JB.

Sprry to spam the thread guys and dolls, but I need a system sump from a VirginMobile device to help someone fix his phone. Hit me up on IRC if you need help doing it or can help. TIA!

I would really like a Virgin Mobile stock ROM to be uploaded somewhere. Just for situations like this, I would like to add a guide on how to return phone to stock into the current root guide but I am not seeing that a stock ROM for VM exists? I have found plenty of Sprint files.

I am not sure how to extract a flashable stock rom from my Virgin Mobile phone or else I would do it and upload it.

Do a reset. Make a nandroid and upload it.

Can you backup your ROM with TWRP, format to factory, backup and upload and then reflash your current ROM? That wuld work too I suppose.

I suppose I could do that. I was wanting to make a single flashable zip and possibly a tar file. I guess if at least a nandroid is uploaded it could help people.

I'll work on that :)

Here's the unrooted virgin mobile stock backup in .rar format. It contains system, boot, and recovery.
If i'm missing something let me know.

Fantastic, man! Thanks so much! I'll work on adding this into the Root Guide along with a "How To Return To Stock" guide for those who don't know what to do with this (until I can make it into a flashable zip)

I just flashed it but I can't turn on wi-fi with it..

This is not a flashable file. It is an archived nandroid backup, so you aren't supposed to flash it. You are supposed to extract the contents into your TWRP backup folder and then restore the backup from the "restore" menu within TWRP.

I did that, I even had to downgrade my TWRP from 2.5.0.0 to 2.4.3.0 to do it. But the good news is that I can turn on LTE mode again and get data. But I'm not in a 4G area so I can't test it well right now. 'Maybe it needs a new radio?

Edit: And I flashed your stock JB kernel for Virgin Mobile in the root sticky.

You need to install ADB, Java, etc. Then do the command

Code:
adb pull /system

or for you linux users.

Code:
./adb pull /system

Interloper. I'll try to catch you on IRC. The whole system dump is quite massive. Although there is a stock nandroid located here.

If it helps, I flashed the stock nandroid and did a factory reset but I can't get wi-fi or bluetooth to turn on, and it looks like the mobile data doesn't work even though it has a 3G connection. Maybe it needs more than just the /system to get the connections othre than phone calls to work

Why did you have to downgrade TWRP?

When I tried to do it in 2.5.0.0, I clicked the folder and TWRP just restarted. I was able to do it after downgrading. Is it missing something?

Oh I just tried it again and now it works, that's strange.

But it still doesn't restore data connections, I still can't get wi-fi, bluetooth or mobile data to work. Can you extract your radio?
