Root [Virgin Mobile] [VMOBI][ROM][KERNEL] Victorious ROM + VaeVictus OC kernel (Updated 7-30-13)

Data media is your internal sd, twrp is made to ignore it so it doesn't wipe your internal storage. So you are wiping and restoring. You are still seeing victorious ROM logo because its baked into the kernel (init.logo.rle) do your backups contain .boot ? (Kernel) system and data?

When ever I make a backup I check system data boot. the backups were from the previous ROM Conquest-11.3. I had about 10 backups none of them work

I have been trying everything for the last 2 days, my phone works so that is good, but I really need to get out of this rom, everything is wacked.

I have googled and duckducked go everything.

I have updated to the latest twrp 2.7.1.0, I have reinstalled the latest SuperSU.

I can't do an thing in twrp regardless of the version , I cant make a backup, I can't restore, i can't flash a new device,

For example I just tried to do a backup

Checked: Boot, system, cache, data, skip MD5 Generation during backup
Unchecked: enable compression
storage: Micro SD card (28562 MB)

Output after about 5 seconds

E: Unknown File System: 'datamedia'
updating partion details...
kernel does not have support for reading SELinux contexts
Simulating action...
Simulating action...
Simulating action...

The message at the top says "backup complete sucessful"

Yet I see no backup,

If I try to flash conquest 11.2-Cataclysm-Full.zip (which has worked before no problem)

E: Unknown File System: 'datamedia'
updating partion details...
kernel does not have support for reading SELinux contexts
Simulating action...
Simulating action...
Simulating action...

"Zip install complete" at top "Successful" at the bottom.

Its done basically the same thing for both versions of twrp since I install Victorious.

Any help would be greatful

***** I think I figured out what I am doing wrong ***** will update shortly.

OK my bad, must have checked something in TWRP. I can make backups and restores again. Learned a lot on this one.

Sorry for freaking out.

i added 2 missing library files and set permissions and video player is working.

1. download attachment and extract files to sd card on phone
2. copy both files into system/lib folder
3. set permissions to match picture below on both files
4. Enjoy your videos.

Screenshot_2013-07-26-12-13-39.png

Great... finally fix it...

Extracted secvideolist.apk, secvideolist.odex, secvideoplayer.apk, secvideoplayer.odex and libvwengine.so from another image and work.

so i screwed up big time, i wanted to free up more space on my phone, so i went into links2sd, but it was saying i was out of free space to move anything, which i wasent, but anyways i was messing around, and i hit the relink application files, and it screwed everything up, idk how, but it did, and now its telling me google services and google apps wont work, and its re booting my phone, how can i fix this without re doing everything, ive had this set up for awhile and its worked great, i shouldnt of messed with anything, im guna try and restore a backup and see if that works.. if anyone can help, i appreciate it..

Good to hear.

I thought i figured it out, ultimately I just gave up, and just used the phone as is.

I still can't use TWRP. If I try to do anything to my data TWRP Restarts.

I can make backups, but I can' not restore them. I can't wipe my data, I can't format my data, I can't even fix permissions.

I am on 2.7.1.0.

I would love it if someone knows what I did or what happened that causes this.

I have tried 3 different versions of TWRP, maybe its TWRP, but I have a feeling something is very wrong with my data partition.

Ive spent 50+ hours this week reading through forums trying to understand what the issue is.

Since i still don't really understand what Victorious does to "swap" the internal and external SD card I don't think I can fix this myself. I think it is related to what ever it is that swapped it but again that is largely a guess.

You can't use twrp 2.7.x.x. Its for KitKat. It will not work on our phone. Get 2.6.3.0. Should be fine. The swap is not active when you're in recovery. Only when the system is running is your memory swapped. So in recovery, internal is internal and external is external.
If you no longer are on victorious your memory isn't swapped. If you are and you want to remove swap, just go into system/etc/init.d, and delete the file 11ext2internal. Then reboot. No more swap.
Edit: here is my copy of twrp 2.6.3.0 https://app.box.com/s/d7w1r6e26xttwejj7mkj

I have been running victorious for a few months now. lately my phone has been asking if I want to update the phone.Should I update or will this risk screwing up victorious and/or the rooting?
If I don't update does it really matter?

thanks Jim

PS it's a system update "a system update is ready to install. YOur Android device will restart andinstall the update. You won't be able to make any call, including emergency calls, during installation"

I also have a fault where it says my phone memory is full but I don't know how to transfer files form phone memory or even which folders are phone memory as opposed to ext SD card or the "other" Sd card which I don't know whee that is physically situated either.

You can't update while running victorious. It will fail. Memory problem is most likely an app storing tons of data, combined with the memory swap from victorious (which is outdated)

Can you explain to an Android drowning man what it means that the memory swap is outdated? Does that mean I should somehow stop the swap?

the clogged memory seems to be the internal memory but where is that on a file viewer so that I can try to move or delete stuff from it?

I use folder mount to swap only the files I want to. Everything from victorious can be done with apps. Internal storage is data/media. Check in settings/storage and see what is taking all of your storage. Or I use es file explorer, it has a "analyze SD card" feature to show exactly what percentage of memory is taken in all folders. Sorry if this post is choppy, kinda low on time.
Oh yeah if you want to stop the swap, system/etc/init.d/ delete (or move) 11ext2int. If your not sure, don't delete it, just move it for safekeeping. Or leave it. Its really a preference. If you can find what is taking your storage, you can just get rid of that.
With the swap, everything is backwards. It just confuses a lot of ppl. It's only useful if you have games with huge data or obb files. If not, its less than useless and just causes memory leaks unless you keep a close eye on memory and constantly do SD cleanup and maintenance (manually finding and deleting unnecessary files)

Hi,Im new to this and I hope you can help me get my wifi tether to work.I have Samsung Galaxy s3 but upgraded to 4.4.2 kitkat .I have downloaded and used the wifi tether -treve mod apk.it keeps saying, tethering started with error ! Are you using link2sd?

@tommievampire : WiFi tether Trev e mod does not work on the s3. The only app that works for tether on s3 is WiFi tether router, its a paid app but worth it.

I don't know, I know v little, just followed the instructions to root and install V. Wish Android was simple and intuitive like Amiga used to be, or maybe it is just have to get to know it??

I'd mainly like to have it so the phone auto installs aps to the SD card so it doesn't clog up the internal memory. I thought the swap did that but clearly not as all my apps are on the int mem and that's what has maxed out the memory. The old android used to allow you to tranfer apps to the sd card but I guess they have disabled that for some reason.

You can install apps on SD with link2sd. You have to make a 2nd ext4 partition on your SD card. But the memory swap does not put apps on SD. It only swaps storage, not the part of the system where apps are stored. Teachme has a tutorial on here for setting up link2sd, I'll see if I can find it. Its really easy and let's you link all user apps to your SD.

Hey, just a quick question. My Victory has recently stopped vibrating, I'm assuming this is due to being dropped. I'm 100% sure that it's hardware. I'm thinking of just buying another victory, backing mine up, rooting the new one, and slapping this in it. Do i have to do system updates on the new one before I root or at all? And should i actually root, and then do the mg5 update manually through twrp in order to assure that victorious will still run?
OR should I just do all updates, then root, and use stock rom with foldermount and link2sd? I'm fine with just backing up my apps and stuff.

I would get the replacement phone first, figure out what baseband and rom version it is, then go from there. Make sure your backup matches the same version and you should be fine. If you do have to update your current phone, make sure to unlink everything from link2sd first as that will cause issues when you update due to having to return to stock settings.

You have to unlink the apps before backing them up, or you will just backup the link. For the new phone, personally I would update it all the way to nd4 then root and skip victorious. You can freeze all the bloat. And yes to link2sd and foldermount. But that's just me.

Edit: also if any one wants the new play store update here it is https://www.dropbox.com/s/gt6t2wtkkamqgrd/Google Play Store_com.android.vending_4.9.13_80290013.apk
It looks the same until you choose an app to view. Material design, it looks so much sleeker.

That's what I was looking for! Thank you! I was actually hoping for a response from you specifically since Jerry is gone and you both have been very helpful in the past.
I wasn't going to back up the app data it anything, just the apk files.

You can use xposed framework to do all kinds of stuff now. You can get KitKat toast notifications, android L heads up notifications, you name it.
